Summary: LARRY PARKS COMES INTO HIS OWN IN STUNNING SEQUEL
Review: lARRY PARKS SPARKLES IN THIS SEQUEL WHICH HAS REAL FUN WITH THE CHARACTERS WE LOVED IN THE ORIGINAL. LARRY'S REAL SKILL WAS TRANPOSING THE JOLSON MANNERISMS INTO A STYLE WHICH WORKED ON SCREEN. JOLSON HIMSELF RARELY WAS ABLE TO SHOW THE MAGIC OF HIS STAGE PERSONAL ON SCREEN AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GRATEFUL TO LARRY FOR CAPTURING THAT ESSENCE. THERE'S REAL CHEMISTRY WITH LARRY AND HIS LEADING LADY IN THIS PICTURE - MORE SO THAN WITH EVELYN KEYES. THE SCENE IN THE HOSPITAL WHERE THEY FIRST TALK IS SIMPLY CHARMING AND CANNOT FAIL TO WARM THE VIEWER. A STUNNING SET OF SONGS AND LESS SHOWBIZ CLICHES MAKE THIS FILM EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL. LARRY'S HAS MATURED INTO THE ROLE AND SHOWS WHAT A CRIME IT WAS THAT HE WAS NOT ALLOWED TO ENJOY A LONGER CAREER. I RECOMMEND THIS FILM TO EVERYONE - I FIRST SAW IT AS A CHILD AND REPEATED VIEWINGS ONLY IMPROVE IT'S CHARM. CHECK IT OUT AND YOU'LL BE SURPRISED AT HOW GREAT LARRY IS - THEN PONDER WHY HE IS NOT MORE WIDELY ACKNOWLEDGED - AND EXPERIENCE THAT JOLSON VOICE. THE DUBBING IS SEEMLESS SO DON'T LET THAT PUT YOU OFF - IT REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE THAT BEAUTIFUL VOICE COMES FROM LARRY'S BEAUTIFUL FACE. TOP FILM - GOT TO BE WATCHED.

Summary: A fairly enjoyable sequel to a great original.
Review: Like most sequels, this sequel to THE JOLSON STORY is inferior to the original. Movies about true events which occurred only a few years earlier tend to be awkward, and the scenes involving the making of THE JOLSON STORY, showing Larry Parks portraying both himself and Al Jolson, are just a bit silly. But the film is quite enjoyable and gives several more opportunities to hear the voice of "the world's greatest entertainer" again.
