Summary: One of my favorite musicals
Review: This was probably one of the first musicals I ever saw and I love it. The characters are great. It's filled with spirited women and good looking, strong charactered men. It's funny and heart warming, and gives viewers an idea of what it was like back in that time period in the wilderness for single people looking for a significant other. And through it all, helps reinforce the idea of family togetherness. And the songs are great too.

Summary: Superb
Review: The demise of the hollywood musical has been taken up recently by Disney who have incorporated some exceptional soundtracks, and storytelling into there more recent animated features, but it's movies like this where they found the knack.
It's all here, good old family values, adventure, action, romance, a great cast and script and no sign of an AK47 wielding hero, gratuitous sex, or special effects anywhere.
I have had this on video and NEVER tire of watching it, even when it appears on TV! - at a sneak over 90 mins it's a must, and don't be fooled - my kids love it as much as I do, proving it to be timeless to each succesive generation.

Summary: The Greatest Brides for the Seven Brothers Ever!
Review: A rugged backwoodsmen wants a women to be by his side. While he walks through town he notices women and he does has some negative comments about their appearance. But until he comes across an old restaurant where a younger women is out chopping wood, he thinks he has met his match.

Where there are different scenes, the actors stay in one location for at least two years. For example, where men are dancing through falling snow, it looked so real because it was real!

A good movie for all ages!

Summary: Not just great dancing.
Review: Great as a movie, stellar as an original musical!! No stage-to-film adaptation here; I always appreciate a musical more when it is an original composition of the studio. And I must point something out: there are many good-natured comments amongst these reviews suggesting that this is a politically incorrect portrait of male-female relations. But note Jane Powell-- a spitfire of a soprano in perhaps her greatest role on screen: Obviously in love with Keel, she is mortified to learn that his main impetus for marrying her is to make her a housekeeper for his six slovenly brothers. And she tells him as much, while basically witholding her favors while he gets it through his head. She simultaneously trains and tames the guys, turning them into gentlemen while remaining a kind and warm-hearted big sister. Later, when the brides are kidnapped, she does it all again, protecting the girls while reminding the guys that they can't treat people- any people- this way. Whether she's teaching the brothers how to go "Courtin'," or telling her husband "When You're In Love," she is the heart, soul, and brains throughout the whole story. A feast for the eyes with rich, outdoor scenery (even if it is mostly backdrops); and the ears-- with terrific original songs. And check out, among the six brides, the beauteous, dark-haired Julie Newmar, pre-"Lil' Abner" and "Batman." You can't miss her; she's roughly nine feet tall!! The Ansco color didn't bother me, but you do need to see it letter-boxed or not at all.

Summary: It's a good one!
Review: This is an awesome movie! At 20, some consider it odd that I love this type of movie. However, I am a huge Howard Keel fan. This movie, though politically incorrect, is saved by the time period and the sweetness of the brothers, as noted above. It is worht noting that the cd has a track which is not in the movie, Keel and Powell singing "When You're in Love" together. It is all in fun and games. Best lines: "What fer? THar's only three little ones." "Nice night for a coon hunt." "Thar were no 'f' names in the Bible, so Ma named him Frankensense, 'cause he smelled so sweet." You must see it wide screen in order to get the full effect. One of the best musicals around.

Summary: If you think dancing is for wimps...see this movie
Review: Not only is this restored musical as good as I remembered, the special feature narrated by the male lead Howard Keel is facinating to watch following the movie. The improved dolby sound is also strikingly better than I remembered from watching it on Cable TV

Summary: "Bless her beautiful heart"-For STAYING AWAY FROM THIS MESS!
Review: This film is terrible. All of the songs are horribly written and sung, and the film's dancing scenes are horribly choreographed (except for the scene at the barn raising). And the acting, let's just not go there! Trust me on this one. SKIP IT! Grade: F

Summary: A great musical film!
Review: I highly recommend this film. The songs and dancing are great. It's a musical well worth seeing. Very entertaining.

Summary: Not exactly politically correct - but a rompin' good time!
Review: If you described the basics of the plot to any forward-thinking person today they may think it nearly barbaric. But Jane Powell more than holds her own in her scenes with the seven backwoods brothers, and the songs and dancing are breath-taking. The barn-raising scene is more exciting than any ensemble dance piece in a movie I can think of. This disc comes with an entertaining retrospective documentary featuring almost all of the principle cast and crew and they were clearly delighted to have made this movie and that IT was the "big hit" of it's year - not "Brigadoon" - the Gene Kelley extravaganza that pushed 7 Brides to a further back part of the back lot while being filmed. Bless yore beautiful hide - THIS musical is one for me!
