Rating: Summary: Lee Marvin Makes this Movie Review: Good old Ben Rumson. Starts a gold rush by burying a "corncracker". Honest to the end with his partner. His line, "Welcome to Hell, preacher" is a classic. He captures the west. Lee Marvin had been a combat Marine in World War II and that brought certain things out in the roles that he played. This is one of them.
Rating: Summary: A classic muscial comedy Review: One of my favorites...some great music, laugh out loud comedy, and excellent performances. Lee Marvin is just extraordinary. He can say so much with just a little change of expression or a gesture...and he even sings, in his own unique way.
Rating: Summary: Deightful Review: I first went to this movie after hearing Lee Marvin's gravel voiced rendition of Wanderin' Star on the radio. It is the only movie I ever paid to see TWICE at a first run movie house. My wife is not a movie or TV buff, but this is an exception. She likes it. As soon as the DVD comes out I will replace my well worn VHS. "The Best Things in Life Are Dirty" but this is just risque, not raunchy. Ben's song on "Civilization" should be a theme to the radical evironmentalists, and his comment on social interaction ("Don't love your neighbor, leave the b-----d" alone.) along is a motto for free and harmonious living. If you hate comedy and detest music, avoid this film. Otherwise enjoy.
Rating: Summary: This movie has everything! Review: My favorite movie of all time. This movie has it all: Great acting, great music, action, comedy, drama, sex and a bit of melancholy. Besides, it has my all-time favorite actor Lee Marvin at his best. I never get tired of watching it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Review: Excellent viewing for those of us who wish to have been born in an earlier time.
Rating: Summary: My dad thinks it's great Review: This has to be one of the worst films of all time. It's bad enough having to listen to Clint Eastwood sing!! Saying this though, it is my dads favourite film and we have to watch it every xmas.
Rating: Summary: Excellent western/musical with beautiful California scenery. Review: A thouroughy enjoyable western with excellent acting by Lee Marvin and suprisingly good music and vocals by most of the cast has me wanting more. Hopefully the studios will release the movie on DVD soon. In the meantime, the music is best enjoyed on the soundtrack CD. I don't usually enjoy musicals that much, but Paint Your Wagon is a big exception. It's also a movie that can be watched more than once with ease.
Rating: Summary: Don't watch this while eating Review: Most people who write reviews I'm sure do so because they had a lovely family experience with the film. Watching Paint Your Wagon alone is about as much fun as counting toothpicks or watching leaves fall. The acting bites, the music is suspciously un-hi fi and the story line is WEAK. All in all, this film deserves any and all butchering it receives. It has survived only because it has become a cult classic. So put it on the shelves next to Rocky Horror or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and leave it there.
Rating: Summary: My favorite movie of all Review: This is my favorite movie. I would force my good friends to watch it with me. Many didn't think they would like it when I told them it was a musical. They all loved it and some do like I do and make thier friends watch it too. The music is great.
Rating: Summary: A Western Comedy with Laughs from the beginning to the end Review: Paint Your Wagon is in my opinion a classic. It is produced in the beautiful mountains of California with all the originally of the life it depicts in the late 1800's. Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood give one of their best performances in comedy roles. Not only is the movie very funny, the music is terrific including such songs as "Maria". You also get to hear Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood sing themselves. There are many surprises throughout the film and it can be enjoyed by young and old alike. My ten year old son considers it one of his favorites. So if you like Westerns, Comedies, and Musicals, you can get them all in this one classic movie.
