Summary: "Shall We Dance" is the greatest scene in this musical!
Review: This movie is one of our family's favorite. Especially, "Shall we dance?" and "Getting to know you" are great number. Most of Japanese love this movie very much because there are wonderful numbers. Of course, some critic says this musical has a bad movie because this musical is too racial. But I hear wonderful numbers, I hope they will notice this movie has great musical numbers so that many people loves it very much.

Anyway, after seeing this movie, you sing "Shall We Dance?" A must buy!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: If you have a problem with the DVD of this wonderful widescreen production, then you either have a bad system or a bad DVD pressing.

This is absolutely wonderful from sound to video throughout. Really the best of the R&H musicals, as well. The Ballet scene is remarkable.

Summary: Something Wonderful!
Review: KON-NICHI-WA! "Shall we dance?" is one the most famous musical number in Japan. I love this movie, and Yul Brynner as the King of Siam, very much. YES! This movie is the miracle. The King, Anna, and the children are so wonderful forever!

Summary: Wonderful musical experience
Review: I enjoyed this movie. I know it's historically inaccurate (Anna probably had a much less important role at court and in the king's life.) and prejudiced, with its Westerners good, Easterners barbaric theme, but in my book it's still a good movie. Deborah kerr and Rita Moreno give good performances as Anna and Tuptim. The lavish sets are good, and so are the costumes. The songs are magnificent. Above everything, of course, is Yul Brynner's performance as the king, which demands the Oscar he recieved. He has a very commanding presence, even when he sits down (or kneels, as in the famous and funny sequence where Anna has to kneel lower than him and her skirts fly out from under her). A wonderful movie, evne if it is inaccurate and prejudiced.

Summary: Great play
Review: I loved the play and this movie, but the DVD version will not enhance your enjoyment of this classic much. Buy the movie, but stick with cheapest format. Yul was born to play the King.

Summary: Timeless and absolutely beautiful. My favorite musical.
Review: I heartily recommend that one views this in widescreen format. Too much of the grandeur is lost in the pan and scan format. It is truly one of the great musicals of all time.

Summary: What happened to the color?
Review: I just bought the DVD, after reading all the glorious reviews on this web site. I was very disappointed in the color. Specifically, my copy had a large purple discoloration of the film image about a quarter in from the right screen margin. It was there for at least 3/4 of the movie and was quite distracting. Has any other viewer seen this? Could it be a defective disc?

Summary: KING of all screen musicals!!
Review: One of the very best of the "Broadway to Hollywood" transfers. Tops in all areas..performances..settings..scoring (no one did it better than Alfred Newman)..costumes..widescreen cinematography, etc..etc. I wish Fox would restore the two musical sequences cut at the last minute prior to release (Anna's "Shall I Tell You" and Tumptim's "IHave Dreamed"). This would make a near perfect show perfect.
