Summary: Beware of the two versions
Review: There are two versions offered for sale at Amazon. The Koch Vision Entertainment version, despite the description in the technical details, is NOT COLORIZED. The Goodtimes Home Video version version IS colorized. Which you prefer is entirely up to you, but don't order the Koch Vision version if you want the movie in color. The Koch Vision version has an extended silent film extra of the first time Laurel and Hardy appeared together (NOT as a team, however). The extra is interesting, but (by today's standards anyhow) a little slow. The Goodtimes Entertainment (Colorized) version, although a few cents cheaper than the other version, is, in my opinion, a much "cleaner" print. Even with the color level turned down so it appears as the original B&W, the Goodtimes version is sharper and more distinct. March of the Wooden Soldiers, holds up pretty well.

Summary: NOTE: THIS IS COLORIZED. DO NOT BUY.
Review: This DVD is the turnerized version.
Contrary to what people say, just turning the color off on your TV does not give you the original black and white image. They have messed with brightness values, shadows, gray tones, contrast, everything.

You will have a muddy, cruddy image.
Go to EBAY and find yourself a copy of the original B&W.

Summary: Laurel & Hardy Updated
Review: This dvd shows what can be done with sensitive and controlled colorization. It is a shame many of the other computer coloured L & H films are not up to this standard. A real pleasure to watch with the colour giving the feel of a modern movie - and it was made over 60 years ago! It would make a great introduction to Laurel and Hardy for today's young children.

Summary: Why do they persist in ruining classics in color
Review: This film is perhaps an all time classic, i have watched this film endlessly over the years. My only complaint with this version is that it is in colour. This film despite it's fantasical elements is actually in black and white. What a dissapointment.

Summary: Best film for children!
Review: This is, quite simply, the best children's film ever made. As a child, I waited all year until Thanksgiving when March of the Wooden Soldiers traditionally made an appearance on TV. When I discovered it, colorized and restored on video, I bought it for my son when he was 3 years old. Now six, he's probably watched it a hundred time. It is thrillingly scary and addictively enchanting. The Hal Roach studios (which produced the Little Rascals and the Laurel and Hardy movies) created a whole world of fantasy, music and not a little terror. Evil villain landlord Barnaby (played by Henry Brandon, who was, incredibly, 21 years old at the time) schemes to marry Bo Peep. Stannie and Ollie save her; Tom Tom, Bo Peeps true love is exiled to Bogeyland; Barnaby escapes; and Toyland is attacked by evil bogeymen (the accompanying music made a huge impression on me as a child). In a thrilling sequence, Stannie and Ollie activate six-foot high wooden soldiers and they save the day. Buy this film for your kids! It's infinitely better than a lot of the dreck out there.
