Summary: CARRIE
Review: I own this movie and all I have to say is that it is more of a drama than a horror motion picture.
A teenaged girl is extremely tortured by her classmates at school and finally seeks revenge in the famed cinematic frenzy at her school prom.
Sissy Spacek portrays Stephen King's depressing character. Nancy Allen plays the mean, make that almost evil bulliette, Piper Laurie plays Carrie's religous fanatic mother and Amy Irving plays the girl that is trying to help Carrie out..secretly.
The acting is lovely, the filming/cinematography is excellent and, well, let's just say the entire film is lovely and delicate. The prom scene is pretty violent and this has a lot of nudity at the introduction.

Review: Brian De Palma's classic "Carrie" stands as one of the most popular films in horror cinema. It is also one of the scariest- not in the sense that you may think; it is scary in that it shows the many cruelties of high school and life in general. The story begins in the girl's shower room at Bates High School, where Carrie (brilliantly portrayed by Sissy Spacek) has her first period. She is frightened, and cries for help from her classmates. But they are no help- they taunt and make fun of her, throwing tampons and sanitary napkins at her. The gym teacher, Miss Collins (played wonderfully by Betty Buckley), breaks up the riot, and gives all the girls (except for Carrie) one week of detention. In turn, Sue (Amy Irving) tries to make it up to Carrie by asking her boyfriend (William Katt) to take Carrie to the prom. Meanwhile, Chris (Nancy Allen) gets back at Carrie by plotting an evil prank on her at the prom, with help from her boyfriend (John Travolta). When Carrie gets home from that fateful day at school, her mother (played by the sensational Piper Laurie) punishes her for having her period by putting her in a closet for the rest of the night to pray to God, and by telling her daughter that she was bad. Her mother is a religious fanatic who will stop at nothing to make Carrie the same way; she is the one reason that no one likes Carrie. Carrie finally goes to the prom with Sue's boyfriend Tommy, and she feels it is the most magical night of her life, until the evil classmates unleash their prank, and Carrie unleashes her powers... The acting in "Carrie" is top-knotch, and Brian De Palma does a great job with the visuals. Obviously, as you can see if you watch it, this is a sincere homage to Hitchcock, and De Palma knows the way to create suspense and build to a shocking climax. The ending is simply delicious, and one of the most frightening ever put on screen. Throughout the film, you can't help but feel sorry for Carrie, and you soon find yourself rooting for her and the caring gym teacher. What makes that film frightening is the fact that at first, this is a fine melodrama, with hardly anything scary about it at all, and then -bang- De Palma hits you with the scary stuff. I highly recommend this classic horror film from the director of "Dressed To Kill", "Sisters", "Body Double", and "The Fury".

Summary: I may be the only person to say this, but..
Review: This movie was B-O-R-I-N-G! I'm a huge fan of the 70's/80's horror/thriller genre, but this movie near put me to sleep! The only things that kept me awake were the opening locker room scene and the last 15 minutes (which weren't even as great as they were hyped up to be). I will never understand why this is considered a classic. It is very uninteresting and nothing happens throughout the movie. Story summary: A girl is unpopular. She mopes around for an hour and then offs a bunch of people at the prom by use of telekenesis. Very tedious.

Review: "Carrie" was the first Stephen King book I read & it got me hooked on him. Often, movies vary so much from the books that they are hardly recognizable. But this movie was true to the book & Sissy Spacek was amazing!

Summary: CARRIE, YOU GO GIRL!
Review: After many, many viewings of my VHS copy of "Carrie" that I purchased in 1986 watching this DVD is like seeing it for the first time. The widescreen format and spiffy new color made me notice things I had never noticed before such as: the inside of the White's house, the set is actually like another character in the story. I watched the extras first which set the mood in reguards to how much work went into this film creatively. There is no director's commentary track. Instead there are 2 separate documentary features one about the actors experence with the film and the other about the director and crew's memories of the production. All the special features are very interesting most noteworthy is the actors behind the scenes stories. All the lead actors are interviewed with one glaring absence, John Travolta. There are many quotable lines form this film most of which are spoken by Piper Laurie (Mama) Many times my friends and I uttered such phrases as "The're all gonna laugh at you" or "I can see your dirtty pillows" to name a few. Bravo to Sissy Spacek and Ms.Laurie for their stellar Oscar nominated performances. You go girl(s)!

Review: what a great movie! The Dvd version is soooo good. The picture quality is good, considering how old it is, the dolby 5.1 is really good, compared to the mono version. i love all the extra features.

The story is about an young strange girl named Carrie White (Sissy Spacek in a Strong Oscar Nominated Performance) has to deal with her mother (Piper Laurie in a Terrific Oscar Nominated Performance), who believes in the puritan beliefs of God and the Students (Nancy Allen, John Travolta, P.J. Soles and anothers) who ridicule her. Then Carrie discover she has the power of Telekinetic abilties. Carrie used her abilities for revenge at her class mates. This film is the ulimate revenge tale for anyone who was rejected & ridicule. Directed by Brain De Palma (Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, Rasing Cain) images of the film has dated a bit. Fine screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen (Stephen King`s It). This was a Box Office Hit in Theaters and it`s become a Modern Day Horror Classic for the Genre. Followed by a In-Name Sequel with Amy Irving in a Supporting Role and a T.V. Remake. Grade:A.

Review: All I have to say is thank goodness DePalma chose Sissy Spacek. Watching the documentary on this film was a real learning experience. This is probably one of the best horror films made. One of the things that makes it great is that it doesn't really start out as a horror film; more of like a "coming of age" type of movie. But the sudden twist takes you deeper into the character, and makes you realize what hell Sissy goes through in that high school, with the people that surround her and within herself.
The transfer is the best I've heard so far. The audio and the music together is equally balanced, which seems so rare to find on DVD's these days. Beautiful menu montage, well done documentaries, and a touching picture gallary makes this DVD perfect to get at such a low price. This is one of those DVD's that will make people want to get more and more movies on disc. It was like watching the film all over again, as a new experience. I felt I was sitting in a movie theater. This standard will most likely change formats for DVD's, and change the way we look at films for a long time. A great DVD to start your home viewing experience with.

Summary: Beautiful movie!
Review: Carrie is not so much a horror movie as it is a revenge movie. Spacek's performance is heartbreaking as the traumatized teen who everyone seems to dislike. Carrie's life is a living hell both at school and at home with her fanatically religous mother. The viewer immediately sympathizes with Carrie and we feel good when Carrie starts coming out of her shell. When she dresses up and goes to the prom with her handsome date we feel as though the ugly duckling is becoming a beautiful swan. But suddenly a vicious final prank unleashes Carries' telekinesis full force on the prom crowd. The special effects are good, but weak in some parts. For example the part where Nancy Allen and Travolta get theirs is too short and somewhat contrived. It just seems to come out of nowhere with no build at all. But aside from that, the movie is perfect. One thing that made this movie great for me was the music. Carrie's theme heard in the beginning and at the end is one of the most beautifully haunting melodies I've ever heard in film. Hearing that melody for the first time at the beginning of the movie just captured me and never let go. Carrie is a wonderful movie any way you look at it.

Review: Not usual Sissy Spacek fair, but a very good horror movie. Great cast/ Piper Laurie/Amy Irving etc.Would recommend it .Some good special effects. Not to many horror movies have you feeling sorry for the person causing all the mayhem . This one will. Enjoy Lisa C.
