Wonderful extras include one documentary about the actual making of the movie, another one is angled from the acting standpoint. One extra: "The Musical Carrie" was dissapointing because there was nothing from the musical! It was merely discussed. [...] Of course, there's the fantastic movie that never bores. Performances by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie are among the screen's greatest. It's fascinating to see them today, on the documentary, discussing how they created their roles, their problems. [...]

Review: CARRIE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS. A FILM THAT HAS A DEEP MESSAGE IF YOU THINK OF IT BEYOND JUST A HORROR FILM. CARRIE SPEAKS VOLUMES ON SOCIETALS SOCIAL STRUCTURE AS WELL AS JUDGEMENT. IF YOU ARE CONDONING PEOPLE'S EVIL BEHAVIOR ARE YOU JUST AS BAD AS THE PERPETRATORS??? SISSY SPACEK IS AN OUTSTANDING ACTRESS WHO IS EQUALLY EFFECTIVE IN "NIGHT' MOTHER" AND SHE GIVES A SUPREME LAYERED PERFORMANCE. ANOTHER GREAT ACTRESS PIPER LAURIE BECOMES HER CHARACTER TOO. SHE GIVES SUCH A MAGNETIC QUALITY TO CARRIE'S MOTHER THAT YOU ARE DRAWN TO HER WHEN SHE APPEARS IN THE FILM. THIS FILM WORKS ON EVERY LEVEL.

Summary: Great movie, good DVD
Review: I'm happy to say that, for the most part, the DVD release of "Carrie" is quite good. The film itself is clean and appears to be intact. The sound quality is quite good, and has been put into Dolby 5.1 surround format. And for those who might want to experience the film the same way they remember it in theaters, the original mono sound format is available too.

This DVD has lots of good extras. There are two featurettes, each a little more than 40 minutes long, that talk at length about casting/acting aspects of the film, and the visual style of the film. Both are interesting, of high quality, and include interviews and discussions with principle actors and the director. There is also a short discussion of the musical version of Carrie (no footage from the musical though), an animated photo gallary, and a couple of text pieces.

The menus are well designed. The main menu is animated, as are the menu transitions. The menu animation and music/sound are creepy and disturbing, meaning they are wonderfully consistent with the movie. This is a good example of the RIGHT way to release a classic film on DVD.

With three exceptions.

The biggest detraction from this DVD is that there are no deleted scenes included. They talk about some cut scenes in the featurettes that sound really neat, but they are not included on the DVD! Why??? They don't say why. They're just not there. For example, there were scenes from Carrie's youth where the term "dirty pillows" is introduced, as well as early signs of her telekinetic capabilities, including a rain of gravel during a particularly enraging event that foreshadows the rain of boulders that destroy the house at the end. I would have LOVED to see this extended canvas, either as deleted scenes or in a "director's cut" version of the film, but you won't find either on this DVD.

The second problem is the lack of a commentary track for the film. Running commentaries provide a wealth of insight into what was going on in the scenes and behind the scenes. Personally I think that every film released on DVD should have at least one commentary track.

The third problem is minor, but it's a pet peeve of mine. There are no English subtitles for the movie. I am a little hearing impaired, and I really like to have good subtitles to help me make out the words during scenes where the words are a bit jumbled, or there's too much noise to make out what people are saying.

Bottom line: If you like this movie, you're going to enjoy this DVD. It's not a home run, but it has more extras and is designed better than most DVD releases of movies from this period.

Summary: Classic Horror at It's Best
Review: I have been a fan of this movie since it's run in the theater's back in 1976.I remember going to the theater and staying from open to close watching this movie it was my all time favorite as a teenage.This movie is a masterpiece the camera angles. the special edition is great with cast interviews and making about the movie is fantastic.I cant says enough good about the dvd i have watched it 6 times in 5 days.Just buy it you wont be sorry.Also take a look at the wonderful 70's fashion.I truly love this film.

Summary: Smokin' Flick!
Review: Carrie may not have been the first "teen" horror movie, but it was the first one anyone took very seriously. Infact Sissy Spacek earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the title character. Everything, all the elements of the film, story, editing, music, photography - come together seamlessly to tell the tale Carrie White with a power that time hasn't faded in almost twenty-five years. Today CARRIE is as much a genre classic as FRANKENSTIEN.

The tragic tale of a tortured misfit who unleashes a terrible vengeance upon her tormentors was first released in 1976. Directed by a young Brian DePalma the film features an incredible combination of talent both in front and behind the camera- and it shows in every frame.

This new "Special Edition" DVD shows the film in it's original wide screen format (unlike an earlier '98 release), the image quality is really excellent, as is the sound quality. I viewed it on a stereo system, but the box boasts a surround sound feature as well for all of you out there with the good stuff.

Also featured are two documentaries about the making of the film. One, "Visulizing Carrie," is a discussion of all the behind the scenes decisions that went into the making of the film. And the other one is "Acting Carrie," a film that talks with the actors about the film.

Probably the only truly "dated" feature on the DVD is the original trailer. It's a hoot.

All in all, this edition of CARRIE should be a must have for horror fans and movie collectors. The importance of the film, while overlooked for years, is obvious from the moment the movie starts until it's terrible conclusion. It's a powerful film that's influence can still be seen in today's Hollywood, beautifully presented on this DVD.

Summary: She Is Still The Queen of The Prom
Review: This great horror film still delivers- the extras in the DVD are alone worth the price of the purchase if your a DePalma fan. I do wish they had spent more time on the Broadway musical disaster- someone should really make a recording of this legenday score-buy the "Carrie" DVD- if youy have a taste for superior terror filmmaking- she is still the queen of the prom!

Summary: They're all gonna laugh at you!
Review: "The Exorcist" was spooky, and "Rosemary's Baby" gave me the creeeps, but for some reason, no horror movie got under my skin like "Carrie." When MGM initially released "Carrie" on DVD in 1998, the picture looked absolutely dire, and it only featured the trailer. It was one of the shabbiest DVD treatments of a movie as I can remmeber, but they get points for issuing a special edition version of this horror classic. The picture has improved, but not by much. However, the big improvement is the features. The main attraction is the 45 minute "Acting Carrie" documentary, which features interviews with director Brian DePalma and the entire cast (except for Travolta, who must have been too busy filming "Battlefield Earth"). Not only is it a kick to see these actors discuss this film 25 years after its release, you also get to see how they've aged since then. Nancy Allen doesn't look much older from her days when she played the bratty Chris Hargenson, and William Katt has shaved his blonde Afro to a short cut with some really cool-looking shades. Also, there's another documentary that discusses the technical aspects of the movie, and another featurette that promotes the now-defunct musical based on this film. All in all...this disc is a steal, and is highly recommended for both casual viewers and movie buffs alike.

Summary: Seriously Demented!
Review: Even though this movie, i.e., Carrie VHS ~ Sissy Spacek, has been shown on TV almost a million times (well, it seems that way at least), it never loses its fervor. The story centers around a girl named Carrie whom is bullied by her classmates and lives with a mother (whom makes fundamentalist Christian appears as liberal people). She is constantly barraged with the notion of original sin and that Eve was the downfall for all mankind. Spacek is amazing in her interpretation of Carries persona and does a very good job conveying her feelings of frustration and inadequacy.

Review: Sissy Spacek is electrifying as the shy outsider Carrie who possesses incredible powers....sheltered by her uber-religious mother,the equally amazing Piper Laurie,she becomes the target of a very vicious prank on the night of the senior prom....Brian de Palma expertly captures the giddy emotions of teenagers while his innovative camerawork is original and powerful....he would never again attain this expert craftsmanship in his storytelling. He then began imitating HITCHCOCK so much in his desire to become the new master of suspense he lost all his originality and lost the language of cinema that he displayed so well in this film. DRESSED TO KILL is such a rip-off of PSYCHO but it is next best film,followed by BLOW-OUT a clever reworking of Antonioni's BLOW -UP,with the only drawback being the wooden performances of John Travolta and De Palma's wife at the time,Nancy Allen.......
