Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, the acting the story the directing
even the SFX of it's time was top notch.
The plot is simple. A meteor crashes near this old man's house and being curious as 98% of people are, he goes to investigate.
Well next the old guy ends up with the alien jellylike substance on his hand, he promply runs in front of Steve McQueen and his girlfriend Jane.
So you can figure out what happens next, the blob absorbs most of the smalltown. For those of you people who haven't seen this movie
i'll stop here but you'll see the simple way the people incapacitate the predacious protoplasm and save their town
I recommend this movie.

Summary: "THE BLOB" OOZES 1950's SENSIBILITIES
Review: "The Blob" on DVD by Criterion is a real treat. The print is exquisite, much better than the prints I'd seen on the "4:30 Movie" in the 1970's. I always loved the scene in which the Blob creeps up on the mechanic under the car. ("HEY YOU- WATCH OUT!!")Metaphorically and culturally, I believe "The Blob" is about the overall paranoia in the 1950's; aliens, communists and teenagers had to be stopped, or at least controlled! "The Blob" itself is a mass of goop, indicating the ambiguous nature of our enemies. By the end of the 1950's, we didn't know who we were afraid of, but we sure were afraid!!! "The Blob" can also be appreciated as the carnivorous nature of 1950's consumerism which was hitting its post-war peak in the film. The DVD liner notes extrapolate on this theme in greater detail. This movie is a low-budget treat for all time!

Summary: from creepy to comic
Review: I saw this movie for the first time when I was 8 or 9 years old. I was horrified by the image & the thought that a little ball of goo could consume an old man and grow to the size of a movie theater with an appetite to match. Now that I'm all grown up and have watched it again, I find it quite amusing. This movie is ridiculous. But in a good creepy funny way. The nightmares of childhood have been neutralized.

Summary: Nothing Can Stop It, Janey-Girl!
Review: Who would think Andy Griffith's "Helen Crump" (Aneta Corsaut) had a Steve McQueen movie in her past? But that is only one of several weird and wonderful things about the ultimate 1950s teenagers-battle-creatures movie, which might best be described as Rebel Without A Cause meets God Knows What From Outer Space. The Rebel is Steven McQueen (who would shortly decide that "Steve" sounded less prissy), a good boy with just enough wild to be interesting; the very wholesome yet understanding girlfriend is the aforementioned Aneta Corsaut. It was bad enough when their date was disrupted by teenage hot-rodders, but they are considerably more nonplussed when they encounter a gelatinous, man-eating What Is It that rides down to earth on its own hotrod meteor--and begins gobbling up townfolk right and left. But will the grown ups believe them? Of course not, what do they know, they're just kids! The movie is teeny bopper at its teeny bopping best. The actors take the rather pretentious script very seriously, with many a soulful look into each other eyes, and the "adult" supporting cast probably says "Kids!" very third sentence or so. But the real pleasure of the film its creature, which is well imagined, well-executed, and often manages to generate a surprising degree of suspense. And although clearly on the cheap side (check out those miniture sets, guys!), THE BLOB is actually a fairly well-made film--and there's that catchy little theme song thrown in for good measure. The 40-plus crowd (myself included) will enjoy the movie as nostalgia, but that won't prevent them from hooting right along with the younger set at its whole-milk-and-white-bread 1950s sensibility, and the film would be a great choice for either family-movie night or a more sophistocated "grown ups only" get together. Make plenty of Jello cubes for movie snacking!

Summary: The Blob
Review: As a lover of classic sci-fi/horror movies of the 50s and as a connoisseur of same, to me "The Blob" ranks right up there with all of the classic sci-fi/horror movies of the 50s. Now the first time that I saw this movie was on the "Late Show" way back in 1974, but since it was on TV they took out all of the best parts, but nevertheless it was still worth watching. And now with the advent video cassette recorders (VCRs) and video cassettes I can now watch this classic uncut and unedited-the way it should be-and the way that it should be seen.

Review: When I was a little girl my Dad and brother watched a lot of B horror movies on TV and this was one of the ones they watched and that movie totally grossed me out with that icky jelly monster thing and I don't think I could ever watch it again without getting spooked and grossed out!

Summary: It's 1958 All Over Again
Review: My brother purchased "The Blob" on DVD through Amazon.com as a Christmas gift for me. What a present it turned out to be! Criterion did a bang-up job on restoring this paradigm of Sci-Fi B movies. In my opinion, THE BLOB is the best of that genre. Finally, you can see the bright red menace of the Blob in all its terrorizing power. The DVD version puts to shame all of those substandard VHS versions that are out there on the market. You won't find any fuzziness or scratchy sound in the DVD version. This DVD version is exactly the way I remembered "The Blob" as I saw it at the Town theater back in Baltimore, Maryland during 1958.

Summary: A technical perspective....
Review: THIS IS THE WAY DVD IS MEANT TO BE! When I purchased this DVD, I was originally taken aback by the high price. I knew nothing of "The Criterion Collection" until this disc. What they have done is nothing short of a miracle...restore THE BLOB to its original cinematic glory. The digital remastering is the most pristine I have seen for any movie, THE BLOB or no. The mono soundtrack is so clean, I could have sworn it was dimensional. The extras are a real treat. This is a fully-loaded DVD and one worth every penny. Fans of THE BLOB will rejoice with this DVD. All others will probably shrug their shoulders. This is eye-popping fantastic, from a technical standpoint. Buy with confidence!
