Rating: Summary: Don't even bother. Really. Review: Although his name appears in the credits, George Romero was in no way involved with this project. The new footage doesn't match the original. Despite a mountain of makeup, Bill Hinzman looks much older than his first incarnation of the cemetary zombie. What was he thinking? New cuts and fades, intended to improve the pacing of the film, seem premature and at times omit valuable dialogue. The prologue and epilogue add little importance overall, the main addition being a religious subplot which frames the entire story. Licina's newly recored soundtrack reminds me of bad MIDI files imbedded in somebody's web page. That being said, Night of the Living Dead: 30th Anniversary Edition suffers most from the lack of one person....George A. Romero.
Rating: Summary: A Great Alternate Version Of This Classic Zombie Creeper!!! Review: I really enjoyed this alternate version of Night Of The Living Dead, I had some doubts about purchasing it after reading a couple of the reviews that were left from fellow fans in this page's reviews area, but decided to take a chance with it anyway. Usually I am against someone going and remaking or re- working a classic (ex. Psycho), but I found that since the original crew were the ones working on the extra updated footage, it would be just fine.... and that it was!!!! Not only do you get a new and more modern soundtrack, over 15 minutes of extra footage and a brilliant picture quality are also included! All of this AND a copy of the original version to boot! You also get a copy of the film's score on a seperate CD!Amazon is offering this DVD at an incredibly low price. I saw a copy of this DVD at a local retailer going for almost fifteen dollars more! Anchor Bay has outdone themselves yet again, and proven that they are dedicated to bringing the DVD buying public the absolute DEFINITIVE versions of the horoor films that all of us die- hard horror fans love and greatly cherish!!! I can't wait to get ahold of their Limited Special Edition version of Halloween that is being released September 14th!!! Pick up the Night Of The Living Dead 30th Anniversary DVD today, WHILE YOU STILL CAN (they are limited to a small pressing number), and get ready to be creeped out all over again!!!
Rating: Summary: one of the best horror films ever made Review: when the movie was first released, it had caused some people in the entertainment business to pull the film from their theatres because it was so graphic. I think that it is one of the best horror flims ever made and it should be on the API's Top 100 Films of all time. The sense of putting seven strangers into a little farmhouse while flesh-eating zombies are trying to get in is still amazing. I highly recommend this movie to any horror fan or just an avid movie watcher.
Rating: Summary: This 30th Anniv. Edition was just what the doctor ordered!! Review: I have been a fan of Night Of The Living Dead for close to twenty years now. This was the first movie that ever really horrified me. The new footage they put in did not change the original story at all. This was the clearest picture of any copy of NOLD that I have ever seen. (I own 12 copies!!) One very welcome edition was a new soundtrack. The music is very very very good. The commentary during the movie was also very entertaining and informative. If you dont want to see the new scenes( that blend so beatifully with the old ones),you have the option of watching the original movie in its beautifully restored glory with the addition of the new soundtrack. This movie is a "must see" for any true fan of horror!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: one of the best and scariest films ever made Review: this film was made on a low budget and this adds to the film's terror
Rating: Summary: Stunning picture quality for the 1968 cult classic Review: I was very impressed with the picture quality of this cult classic. Sound quality enhanced by a new music soundtrack, additional scenes (which truly add to the original version) AND the original release version makes this a 4 star in my book. Of course you must enjoy this type of movie to begin with - gore galore (YUK) - and true fright!!
Rating: Summary: Night 30 WELL worth the money! Review: WOW! I really thought this was going to blow, but was I surprised. The new scenes integrated perfectly into the old, and the new transfer ROCKS!!! The original footage looks like it was shot yesterday, and the new zombies are really cool- not too hi tech and not as cheesy as the originals. The new music is incredible- if you dig Goblin and scores like The Hunger and The Crow, you'll really love it. The extras are rad- the music video for Dance of the Dead looks like a NIN vid, and the behind the scenes feature and the commentary are a cool insight. The only thing that bugged me was the make-up on the cemetery zombie. All in all it's great to have a "new" zombie flick to enjoy. Oh, yeah- the best extra on the DVD is the original version with the new music. Man, it looks and sounds totally awesome! To get two movies and all the extra stuff for this price is a great deal. I give the DVD a BIG two thumbs up!!! Good job, guys!
Rating: Summary: Terrible waste of money. Review: I'm sorry...They have spoiled this classic film with a new score that sounds like it's from 1981, and terrible new scenes that don't fit in at all with the original film. This project had my hopes up, but just didn't pan out at all. I wish I'd spent my money on something else. Yuck!
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time with this... Review: This disk is not worth the money or the metal and plastic used to record it. Do yourself a favor and buy the Elite version. Russo & co. are just out to make a quick buck by exploiting this classic. This is one of the best horror films ever made and this so-called "Special Edition" adds nothing to the film. The Elite version should be available on Amazon. Sure, you may pay a few dollars more-- but Romero did NOT authorize this re-edited disk. Besides, the picture quality is far superior on the Elite disk. The one star rating is for the "30th Anniversary" edition only. Otherwise, the film gets FIVE stars.
Rating: Summary: Most influential horror film ever. Review: "Night Of The Living Dead" is a landmark in american film history. Here is a perfect example of what you can do with a little bit of talent, a few friends and a camera. I have seen many very shoddy editions on video over the years but was taken aback over the brilliantly clear DVD collectors edition. The picture is so sharp and clear that it actually looks like it was filmed yesterday. Also essential are the not one but two running audio commentary tracks from Romero, cast and crew. Who among us don't remember sitting up til one or two o'clock in the morning on a Saturday night to catch this horror classic. Who knew back then how much of an impact it would have on future filmmakers today, not only in horror but also on independant films in general. If you only buy one DVD it really should be this one.
