Rating: Summary: A great movie Review: I saw this movie when I was much younger. And recently I have seen it again. I find that this while not portraying the book, is a great movie. I recomend Exodus highly.
Rating: Summary: pretty good Review: Considering the poor elements available for movies in 1960, Exodus was pretty real-seeming and suspenseful. Although it doesn't accurately portray the book, this is a pretty good movie in its own right.
Rating: Summary: Book=Better Review: I read the book for school and then saw the movie. They skipped a lot of the book that was important. And they mixed up some parts. If you plan to see this you might want to read the book before or after as long as you know the whole thing.
Rating: Summary: At the top of its genre Review: This film is from a fascinating novel by Leon Uris.. It was as good as the mass media got in 1960-61. The scenery is gorgeous, the music is exciting and the young Paul Newman is gorgeous AND exciting! The film raises some interesitng questions: What happened to the desire of the original Israelis to live in harmony with their Arab neighbors? It's worthwhile to examine what time has wrought. A bird's eye view of antisemitism is offered in the dialog of several characters: the American woman (Eva Marie Saint) and the British officer (Peter Lawford), for example. Today we expect more sex, more blood, more dirty words, but for it's time, Exodus told the story well. Perhaps realism isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Historical Drama Review: This historical drama surrounding the events of the founding of the State of Israel centers on a beautiful love story (Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint). It's accuracy is excellent, showing weaknesses of all peoples, but it differs from the book (also "Exodus") tremendously. A great musical score ices the cake with a strong ambiance of love of another and one's country.
Rating: Summary: paul Newman looks damn fine, but It was wiggity wack!!!! Review: This was a bad representation of what went on during the partition of palestine. Paul newman looks pretty good so it made up for the rest of the nonesence.
Rating: Summary: a good, yet extremely stereotypical movie Review: I have read both the book and seen the movie but I am somewhat displeased with both of them. The movie especially focuses on the stupid love story (between the ugly nurse and the handsome Mr. Newman) which shouldn't play a big part in the story. The fascinating history of the Jews should be something focused on. Even if it is in the movie, I feel like they are creating unfair stereotypes on the arabs which is way wrong! They dont really offer the needed background info on the topic either...Which left me real confused. They also made all the americans look like heroes, which again wasn't the real story. But of course all damn movies are made for $$$ so they needed to keep everyone interested. So, they obviously blew up the love story which was sorta cheesy. To add to all this, the characters were not developed and explained well enough so I personally couldn't connect with them! Disregarding all these bad things, the film was quite good. The plot was still interesting and action packed even though I knew a lot of it wasn't true.
Rating: Summary: Awful and a total waste of time Review: I saw this movie and I hated it. It was extremely commercial and it did not focus on the historical events that are the most important parts of the story. It was tremendously bias and way to sappy, I would not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: BORINGEST MOVIE EVER!?!!?! Review: This movie was uninteresting and I felt like I wanted to fall alseep during the entire time. The way everything and everyone was portrayed was very intriguing but all put together it was terrible!
Rating: Summary: closer to the original 70mm theatrical release Review: one of the first 70mm films i saw back in 1962 was "Exodus" and viewing this video is more o less very close to the memory i had of the film if is not possible to see the film in a theatre and less in a big 70mm house. so the best you can do is to buy this video an enjoy it. miguel carrara
