Review: The short story is out of print, but can be found in:The Norton Introduction to Literature Fiction Sixth Edition / W.W. Norton & Company Available through www.amazon.com I was required to read this story as part of my mandatory college curriculum. I found the story very intriguing and spotted with divine wisdom. The story views hunting and obsession in a new light. The story was written in 1924, but still feels modern showing the author's stretch for new thinking. I do not find the author's prose to be very smooth or grammatically perfect, but he does have something to say. If your looking for a good collection of short stories to read, I recommend reading 'The Norton Introduction to Literature Fiction'

Summary: Most Excellent DVD
Review: There has been some debate by previous reviewers of 'The Most Dangerous Game' about the quality of the digital transfer on to DVD. My own view is that the picture quality is outstanding. You do occasionally catch sight of objects shimmering, but the effect is negliable. What really hits you is the incredible sharpness and clarity of the print. This isn't limited to the picture either - the sound quality is equally as impressive. For a movie 70 years old you simply could not hope for better. The only extra feature is a very good commentary by Bruce Eder, whose knowledge of 'The Most Dangerous Game' seems limitless. This guy really knows his stuff and what's more, he delivers it in a very relaxed and friendly manner. The film itself is an action packed 63 minutes that is enlivened by a luscious Fay Wray with great support from Leslie Banks and Joel McCrea. The relatively short running time actually helps maintain a high level of suspense and interest - it feels like an 80 minute movie but with all the boring stuff cut out! To label 'The Most Dangerous Game' as a classic is an exaggeration. It is still a well-made, exciting movie that has stood the test of time exceptionally well. The film itself deserves 4 stars, but the great picture quality, sound and commentary make this DVD worthy of a 5 star rating.

Summary: A Compact, Stunning Masterpiece
Review: They don't make movies like this anymore...but they should! Reduced to the very essential due to budget constraints, this film is the best example of clear, solid exposition that I've ever seen. Everything in it is for a reason. And the purpose-driven plotting serves the story admirably well. This one is all about the chase, the thrill of the hunt. So, there would be no reason anyway to dull things down with long scenes and explaining the obvious. This film deals with familiar types and our basic instincts. And it is photographed wonderfully. The last 15 minutes are nothing but pure adrenaline-soaked action. Some of the best scenes of this type ever shot! I won't give away the ending...but I must say that the last scene in this movie is splendid. Truly artful...and in that it is amazingly at odds with the content. I'll say no more. Just watch this movie and see!

Summary: CULT FAVOURITE
Review: This grim and morose film has strong undertones of sadism and toward the end, brutality. The most dangerous game is man. This genuinely frightening film has Banks cast as a mad Russian Count who lives on strange little island and literally waits for ships to wreck on the dangerous reef along his sinister domain.....I'll not give anymore of the plot away except to say originally, there were to be scenes of decapitated heads which were later thought to be too upsetting to viewers. The atmosphere of the film is really creepy: both the black evil-looking castle and primeval forests on the island are terrific. The dark theme of this movie would be repeated in countless films and radio shows to say nothing of television.

Summary: What's with all the digital artifacts?
Review: This is a very fun (and somewhat campy) thriller with lots of impressive sets (later used in King Kong).....so why is the Criterion DVD littered with so many compression artifacts? There is so much shifting going on in the image (pieces of the background are always moving, castle doors shift as the arch stays still, trees and hills jitter back and forth whereas the rest of the image is stable)--- for a company so widely revered for "restoring" films, it is a shame that Criterion is using substandard digital mastering for some of their DVDs. Their laserdisc of this title did not have all this artifacting. Yes, the image itself is sharp and clean and looks better than the old public domain videos, but that just makes it even more frustrating that the mastering is so haphazard. It's hard to admire the sets and design when they're moving all over the place like a mosaic painting. I would have given this movie a 4 star rating...the DVD brings it down to a 2.

Summary: an excellent movie!
Review: This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edition of the film. This movie, made by RKO radio pictures was the last picture they did before releagsing King Kong. Interestingly enough, both films used the same jungle set. This film follows a man who becomes shipwrecked on an island. he later discovers a castle on the island and meets other shipwrecked people who are guests on the island. The only problem is that their host wants to hunt them down and kill the for sport! The film has good acting and some familar sound effects as well. The DVD also has audio commentary by film historian Bruce Eder who has done commentary for other films presented by the Criterion Collection.

Summary: Popular & Unforgetable
Review: This story is about a first class hunter who finds himself stranded on an island being hunted by a man. The general (the hunter) is bored of hunting animals for sport because they do not think and plan like humans do, and humans are harder to hunt and more dangerous (which is why the general chooses to hunt humans). This alludes to the title which has two meanings. 1. The most dangerous game can mean "hunting" is the most dangerous game you can play. And 2. The title can mean that man is the most dangerous game (game as in animal) to hunt because it can think and it has feelings. I have read this story as an assignment for my 9th grade English class. I brought work home from the story and both of my parents recognized and remembered the story telling me how much they enjoyed it. They read it in high school too and they still remember it. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspensful, adventure story. The setting sets the mood and leaves you on your toes not wanting quit reading until you're finished. However the ending is a little choppy and without careful reading it's hard to understand exactly what happens in the end.

Summary: IT IS JUST THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: this story was read to me, and even though I said I don't like it when people say they knew about a book but didn't read it until it was a necessity yet found it good is lame. I have an excuse though, I never even heard of it before but this story was the best. My teacher read it in my class and it is one of her favorite short stories. I don't know what else to say other than that you HAVE to read it.
