Summary: One of the Greats!
Review: I am 43 years old. I first saw this movie when I was 10 and have watched it from beginning to end every few years ever since. It is probably my favorite movie of all time. It's hard to describe just how great this movie is. The Steve McQueen on his motorcycle sequence is one of the most thrilling in all filmdom.

Summary: Good DVD transfer
Review: This film has been trasferred well onto DVD and retains a crisp clear picture. My only criticism is that it is not anamorphic, therefore it is not optimised for widescreen television. Because the film is in 2.35:1 ratio, the action is tiny even on a large TV and it could really have benefitted from being anamorphic, in much the same way as "A Bridge Too Far" was.

Otherwise, excellent.

Summary: "How many are you planning to take out?"
Review: The only war movie that makes you want to sign up for the British army the minute the credit's roll. All-out action, an unbashed, translantic ensemble cast ( Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, James Coburn, Donald Pleasance,) and a thrilling final reel make it the most entertaining escape movie ever made.

Summary: On the edge of your seat drama
Review: This was a wonderful, thrilling drama. Am glad that libraries still have all the old classics around! I was happy that at least 3 of the prisoners escaped! To see James Garner, young and handsome, wooooo!!! The stunts that Steve did on the motorcycle were crazily daring!

Summary: It is great.
Review: I think that The Great Escape is the best movie made. I think Steve McQueen does excellent motorcycle stunts. My favorite part is when James Garner stills "the ferret's" wallet.

Summary: Wow.......
Review: Too many movies out there are cookie-cutterish and altogether bore me. I have seen this movie many times, and I still can't get over how well it was done. Each and every actor gave 110 percent to create this masterpiece, and so far I have yet to meet a person who saw this film and did not like it. If you like war movies, this is a must.

Summary: One of the Best
Review: This was one of the first war movies I ever saw. It blew me away. James Garner is the MAN. A must see movie. What makes this so interesting is the fact that it is true. Worth you time and money. An absolute classic.

Summary: 76 Prisoners trying to Escape but only three can manage !
Review: The first movie I have seen of Steve and I love his acting. I have seen this one for four times and I never got bored. The plot is very fine as it is a real life story. The all major star cast has made this one very much watchable. The climax is very finely dierected especially the try for escape of Steve but he could not. The first movie I have seen without a female character and who cares when so many male stars are around and their best acting shows their talent. A must watchable! I saw it for the first time when I was 12. Thanks to the Director, Producer and Actors and all technical and associates who gave their contribution in making this film.

Summary: Rip Roaring Entertainment That Holds The Test Of Time
Review: I saw The Great Escape in the fall of 1963 when I was 8 years old. In my hometown during those days moviegoing was a family affair-- wear nice slacks and shirt etc. Seeing this grand movie with the macho stars on a big screen with booming sound made quite an impression on me. Steve McQueen was simply the "King Of Cool" and he became my favorite film star.

This movie has transcended generations -- my 18 year old son recently viewed it and he was totally engrossed in this fantastic true story of men seeking freedom under the most desperate circumstances. He agreed with me that "they don't make em like they used to" and that most of the films today can't hold a candle to The Great Escape.

The DVD is superb -- the color and picture quality is first rate -- looks just like when I saw it in the fall of 1963 at the old Capitol Theatre in Rome, NY. The featurette on the making of The Great Escape is a nice feature that I never saw before.
