Summary: Magnificent!
Review: A real masterpiece from Hitchcoc

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Phenomenal!!!
Review: This is perhaps my favorite movie of all time. I first saw it on videocassette and loved it. But since purchasing the DVD, I realize how tremendously improved the film is since it's restoration. Viewing this film on DVD is like getting lost in a dream world. You can feel the emotional strain of the characters. I can see why they call this Hitchcock's masterpiece. This film is much better than any other suspense/mystery I've seen.

Summary: This is the best plot in all of movie-dom.
Review: After watching this movie, I fully understand why Alfred Hitchcock is so renown. The fact that the "vertigo" special effect of this movie was cutting edge at the time is only the beginning. This is a true suspense film that promises to keep the viewer thinking for the entire length of the movie. And, even when you have been let in on one facet of the mystery, another one begins to keep the viewer engrossed. Just the emotional range of "Scotty" (Jimmy Stewart), the main character who suffers from fear of heights and who progresses from a calm and collected detective to an obsessed lost soul will keep you entertained. I believe that this movie outclasses any of today's suspense-thrillers. Modern special effects does not approach the fine acting and directing and the entriguing plot of Vertigo.

Summary: Here I was born, and there I died.
Review: Is it an overstatement to say that my first viewing of this film changed me forever? I think not! Others will characterize this film as "one of the best", but for me, it represents much more than that. After viewing the film for the first time - "Here I was born" - my image of the world and peoples' motivations changed. An appreciation for what Mr. Hitchcock had put on film, combined with my own very close association with "Scottie" drew me to view the film over & over. Having seen the film for the first time - "There I died ..." - ended a more innocent time in my life. This film requires multiple viewings, so many clues, so many 'links' are discovered even after the 10th or 20th viewings. Give me a cold December day, and I can feel the chill of the bay. Give me a cup of coffee, and I can feel my hand on Madeleine's. I urge you to "take the ride" on this roller-coaster of emotion. Take the leap, it's worth it!

Summary: A classic restored
Review: Complex themes, a suspense story that seems resolved by the first third of the film, an obsessive love story VERTIGO is all this and more. This is Hitch's most mature statement as a film director and artist and certainly is one of the ten best films made.

Executives at Paramount thought that Hitchcock was mad when he explained the "suspense" elements of the plot less than midway through the picture. Most were sure that audiences would walk out and, indeed, the film didn't do well financially, but for different reasons. It just so happens that VERTIGO was 40 years ahead of its time. This was a Hitchcock new to audiences expecting the fun suspense of STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. The complex narrative, themes and characters helped develop new standards for American film.

VERTIGO, along with TOUCH OF EVIL, stands out as among the very best of American cinema in the 20th Century.

Summary: 6 Stars. Must be seen again and again.
Review: This is my all-time favorite movie. Hitchcock saw traits in his actors' that perhaps they themselves didn't know were there. Who but Jimmy Stewart could've played this role this perfectly? One of the original movies to make you wonder: creepy, captivating, nightmarish, and haunting. It contains Hitchcock's greatest "twist", and what happens to Stewart's character is frightening in an utterly unique way. It boasts Bernard Herrmann's greatest score, which is to say much.

Summary: Gorgeous Transfer
Review: I saw this movie for the first time on VHS after the restored re-release; so I approach it without the predjudice, good or bad, of the original theatrical release. The DVD is a must have. Sound wise -- it's excellent -- and my SOUND system is merely low-tech stereo output. However, my DVD and screen are state of the art, and this DVD version is the most visually stunning home movie I've ever seen. The depth and richness of the color and picture are stunning. The picture alone is reason enough to own this version.

Summary: Mind-bogglingly Spectacular
Review: This is one of my favorite movies ever, and one that completely changed my entire view of moviemaking, and my life. This was my first Hitchcock film and it made me feel emotions I'd never felt before! Fascinating, enchanting...it is an absolute masterpiece and a must (must-must) see!

Review: Vertigo is a dream, a beautiful sequence of images, that coalesce into James Stewarts nightmare. I watched this movie for the first time 10 years ago. It was the best movie I had ever seen then, its the best film Ive ever seen, now. If you see it, youll know what I mean
