Review: I was 5 when I first saw this movie, and the impact of it has remained until now, when I am 35. The superb interpretation of Hunter and all the artists made me eager to know Christ and the Gospel. The magnificent soundtrack and the correct direction also contribute to make of this film the best one I have ever seen about Jesus.

Summary: A Thrilling and Moving Blockbuster
Review: Without a doubt the best of the cinematic portrayals of the life of Christ. The film is graced with superb performances, especially Jeffrey Hunter as Christ and Siobhan McKenna as Mary. The score by Miklos Roza is brilliant and unforgettable. The final scene, as Christ's shadow extends over the shore as the disciples go off to spread the word, always moves me to tears. Nicholas Ray's direction and a sensitive and tasteful screenplay are pluses, as are Rita Gamm as a frightening Herodias, and Brigid Bazlen as a highly disturbed Salome. Enough praise cannot be given to Roza's score, however; the film's impact is unimaginable without it.

Review: Really great moveie! I never get tired of watching it. In comparison with all the actors who have portrayed Jesus in a film, I think Jeffrey Hunter was the best of them all.

Summary: Story of Jesus filmed with integrity
Review: This fim gives a balanced and good view of the situation in Israel during the rise and fall of Jesus. Without the usual overdramasized atmosphere, Jesus is portrayed as a real human being, who proclaims messages still worth noticing today. Apart from the religieus scenes (beautiful filmed), there is also a good insight in the motivations of the several groups: the Romans, the conservative Jews, the Jewish people and the the followers of Jesus. All have their reasons te believe or disbelieve in Jesus, especially the violent freedomfighters with Barabas; they want and expect a man who saves them from Roman bondage, but instead hear Jesus talk of eternal love and brotherhood. This dilemma stands at the core of the film, and the way it is worked out makes this movie a rewarding one.

Review: I first saw this movie as a teenager and have loved it ever since. I believe that it is the best portrayal of the life of Christ on film.

Summary: A Nice Try
Review: After watching "Jesus of Nazareth" I would say that "King of Kings" was outclassed in terms of performance, and storyline. King of Kings lack the essence of the biblical accounts of Jesus that were important to the story. For example, much of the story was emphasized on the political events of the time, instead of the central message of Jesus' teachings. A lot of details on Jesus's life were missing. The motivations for Jesus' persecution and death were not faithful to bible accounts. Also, I feel that the passion, suffering and death of Jesus was not portrayed realistically by the actor - there was just not enough human emotion to make it a good movie. Also, Jesus' mother was not seen to display much sadness or weeping during her son's suffering and death - can a mother not weep when her son died? I still prefer Jesus of Nazareth any day.

Summary: An intelligent, inspiring life of Christ.
Review: "King of Kings" was my favorite religious motion picture when growing up, and I believe it still is. When MGM first released it in 1961, movie critics irreverently dubbed it "I Was a Teenage Jesus", since the role of Christ was given to teen idol Jeffrey Hunter. In hindsight, it was an unfair appraisal. Unlike other actors who have played Jesus in the more sublime, "stained-glass" manner that appears to be the norm, Hunter's portrayal showed a very human, energetic Messiah whose divinity still could not be denied. Interestingly enough, "King of Kings" was directed by Nicholas Ray, who six years earlier had directed James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause". This time around, our "Rebel" has a well-defined Cause which places Him at odds with the religious and civil authorities of His day. The film's international supporting cast consists mainly of lesser-known character actors whose performances are mostly able. The great actor/filmmaker Orson Welles gives an uncredited performance as the film's narrator; curiously, the narration was written by science fiction author Ray Bradbury, who is also uncredited. The film's stirring music was composed by Miklos Rozsa, who was no stranger to religious epics (the soundtracks to "Quo Vadis?" and "Ben-Hur" stand out among his other works). Beautifully filmed in Spain, "King of Kings" is an intelligent and reverent profile of He who has been the Way, the Truth, and the Life to hundreds of millions for almost 2000 years. END

Review: 'King of Kings' made in 1961 is a famous film that a number of people know about or have seen. Most people fail to realize all of that doesn't matter because Jesus Christ never existed!! Jesus Christ is a mythological figure the church has exploited for hundreds of years and now the film industry has for almost a hundred years. There is absolutely no archeological or historical evidence that he existed. Even if he did exist, it would be highly unlikely he would have received that kind of punishment.
It is a shame that a con artists like these filmmakers are using this mythological figure to make millions of dollars. People have to start swaying away from the church and its manipulations and start looking at the hard facts. Jesus Christ and the crucifixion never happened.
