Rating: Summary: The Robe Review: I hated it.If u want a good film, try Julius Caesar or Roman Holiday.
Rating: Summary: Didn't like it Review: I liked Quo Vadis way better than this.Don't waste your time.
Rating: Summary: A Massive Biblical Epic Review: Here is a film like the ones they don't make anymore. A huge cast, brilliant color, and the first motion picture released in CinemaScope, this is truly one of the greatest biblical films ever made! The actors cast in the roles were perfect. Though it differs greatly from the original novel, the film is great.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful character study! Review: This movie takes us on the journey of a Roman soldier, down a long twisted road to personal peace. We watch closely as the lines of stress and anxiety begin to bring a proud and talented man to his knees. Here the robe itself is a metaphore for one man's guilt, and the love that could be his only cure.
Rating: Summary: splendid, reverent, Christian drama, greatest ever made Review: One of the greatest biblical extravanganzas of all times. One the entire family can enjoy. Richard Burton and Victor Mature are sensational in their performances. Burton's conversion from a heathen Roman soldier to the Christian faith is one of the great scenes in the movie. Get out the tissues for the cricifixion scene which is the greatest ever filmed. Very respectfully told.
Rating: Summary: Jesus Christ Never Existed. Review: 'The Robe' is a famous film that a number of people know about or have seen. Most people fail to realize all of that doesn't matter because Jesus Christ never existed!! Jesus Christ is a mythological figure the church has exploited for hundreds of years and now the film industry has for almost a hundred years. There is absolutely no archeological or historical evidence that he existed. Even if he did exist, it would be highly unlikely he would have received that kind of punishment. It is a shame that a con artists like these filmmakers are using this mythological figure to make millions of dollars. People have to start swaying away from the church and its manipulations and start looking at the hard facts. Jesus Christ and the crucifixion never happened.

Rating: Summary: The very first movie to be made in CinemaScope. Review: This is a Twentieth Century Fox movie. This movie was from a novel written by Lloyd C Douglas in 1953, Mr Lloyd C Douglas also wrote the sequel to The Robe which was called Demetrius and the Gladiators which was written in 1954.
The Robe was made in 1953; it was also the very first movie to be made in CinemaScope. The Robe was also nominated for Five Oscar Awards, Richard Burton for Best Actor, Including Best Picture Award.
There is also a great line of cast:

Victor Mature "Demetrius"
Michael Rennie "Peter"
Jay Robinson "Caligula"
Dean Jagger "Justus"
Torin Thatcher "Senator Gallio"

Betta ST John "Miriam"
Jeff Morrow "Paulus"
Ernest Thesiger "Emperor Tiberius"
Dawn Adams "Junia"
Leon Askin "Abidor"
Screenplay by Albert Maltz, Including Philip Dunne.
Adaptation was by Gina Kaus.
The movie was beautiful produced by Frank Ross and, Directed by Henry Koster.
When Caligula Played by Jay Robinson, arrive at the slave auction he meet there Diana, played by Jean Simmons, and Tribune Marcellus Gallio, played by Richard Burton, Then there was a disagreement between Caligula and Marcellus which let to Marcellus banishment from Rome into Palestine.
Pontius Pilate Governor of Palestine played by Richard Boone, order Marcellus Gallio a Roman Tribune, to supervise the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Events unfold at the foot of the cross that changes the life of the lady Diana and, Tribune Marcellus Gallio and, the slave Demetrius forever.
The Robe is a masterful fictional biblical movie to be view by the entire family young or old. I particularly like the scene at Marcellus trial were Diana called Caligula a tyrant amongst other things and she prefer to die with Marcellus the man that Diana loved ever since they were children, rather than to be married to Caligula who was a murderer and tyrant in real life. Beautifully written, acted and well directed. I recognize a few of the actors that played in other movies and it just overwhelming. Great masterpiece movie to have on your collection.
I like the photography scene in this movie very much it gives you a view of perfect three dimensional but, also because of its importance, The Robe was the very first movie to be done in CinemaScope. CinemaScope is simply a motion picture trade mark. What is very interested to me was how it was done. They used two special lenses on both the standard camera and the projector; this gave The Robe a greater depth when it was projected on the flat screen. For this to work successful the screen needed to be two and a half times as wide as its height. This is why I enjoy this movie very much; it makes me feel as if I was really there.
The clothing and dresses that they wear was very original in it's designed, and colors, the Emperor Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, was particularly well design, including his golden breast plate, the two golden swords, the beautiful red cape that he wear at Marcellus trial was just outstanding.
I also like to hear the music as its fits very well with each scene in the movie, from beginning to end, just great.
I did not think that the script was that great, except at Marcellus trial that kept me very focus on the movie.
Rating: Summary: Jesus Does Indeed Save!! Review: You can watch Richard Burton, a famous British stage actor who made it in the movies as he is Transformed, literally, by the Blood of Jesus. Looks great on DVD - I must add.. You can count the hairs on the back of a passing camel.
Rating: Summary: Wide Screen Classic Review: The first film to be released in the CinemaScope process, The Robe is a fairly interesting fictionalization of Roman life after the death of Christ. Richard Burton stars as Marcellus, the centurion in charge of the crucifixion. Marcellus's life is never the same after he wins Christ's robe in a gambling game. Consumed with guilt and the haunting belief that Jesus was perhaps the Son of God, Marcellus almost goes mad. With the help of some Palestinian Christians, he gets his sanity back and charts a new and dangerous course that puts him at odds with the Roman emperor. A beautiful production featuring an all-star cast including the beautiful Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, and Michael Rennie, The Robe is still enjoyable entertainment some 50 years later. The DVD quality is good and if you have a home theater, the surround sound is quite impressive. Too bad they didn't add any extras, like a commentary by Jean Simmons (the only major star still living). You would think a documentary on the development of CinemaScope would have a least been in order. After CinemaScope, all major studio productions were produced for the wide screen, and The Robe's success helped pave the way for this new process.
