Summary: A great movie.
Review: Being a Monkee fan I couldn't wait to see this movie and I have to admit that at first I didn't get it! Released in 1968 it bombed in the box office due to the fact it was rated R and only released to six theatres in the entire country of America, but over the years has gained cult status and rightly so. It took three or four more times of watching it before I released you're not suppose to understand the movie but just enjoy it. Featuring a great soundtrack (Highlights include a thunderous live performance of Mike Nesmith's track 'circle sky' a broadway type track 'Daddy's song' sung by Davy Jones and the beautiful ballard 'As we go along' sung wonderfully by Micky Dolenz) and a cameo apperance from the late great Frank Zappa, this turly is a masterpiece in film history. Watch it with an open mind and I promise you will love it.

Summary: Head best rock film of all time
Review: Monkees are the most under rated bunch of lads in music history. They did play their own instruments later and developed a music style all on their own with Headquarters. The Monkees television show was canceled so they started working on an idea for a monkees motion picture. A film that would feature every genre of film. Jack Nicholson produced and wrote the movie and Bob Rafelson (Five Easy Pieces) directed. How on earth do you describe a film like Head. Head is a time capsule of an era long gone. What Head has is fantastic songs like The Porpoise Song and As we go Along. Even classic actor Victor Mature features in the film with Annette Funnicello and the tripped out Frank Zappa. Look for actress Teri Carr also. Head is truly a artistic delight with a brilliant visual style and hard hitting footage. The film when released in 68 was almost forgotten after lasting for only 3 weeks. Sadly it spelled the end for the Monkees when they lost their teenie bopper crowd at that time.

This film will not be for everyone but I consider this the best rock movie with films like Gimme Shelter and Help! This in a way is an attack on their manufactured image. Long Live The Monkees!

Summary: WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!!!
Review: When i put this tape into my VCR i was hooked instantly. This movie was everything that i love in a movie. They all were great in it which makes this movie a classic. They worked hard to get a different image (none bubblegum) and they won it in this movie. Great songs like Can you dig it, Daddy's song, circul sky, As we go along and many more. This movie was a great sucess in my mind and would watch it any time of the day. Davy, Mike, Peter, and Mickey worked hard and they should get the best rating on this video!!!

Summary: Head---The Great Escape
Review: "The Last Action Hero"(1993), was humorous because Arnold Schwarzenegger was poking fun at himself, and his movies.

"Spiceworld"(1998) was cute, as The Spice Girls poke fun at themselves, and the music/entertainment world in general.

"The Brady Bunch Movie"(1995) and "A Very Brady Sequel"(1996) are humorous satire, asking the audience "What if we take a family who is stuck in a time warp, and place them in today's lifestyle?" The punch line is of course having the Brady family live in the '70's while the "real world" lives in the now.

In the same, or similar traditions, we have "Head" (1968) starring Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork, a.k.a The Monkees.
One the one hand, it's a humorous satire. This film has no plot, nor does it have any story line for the audience to follow. It is a great escape from their tv. show; it's not the type of movie one would have excpected The Monkees to have made. Still, that's one of the things that made it enjoyable. Full of unexpected twists, and surprise turns, laughable moments, and good music.
On the other hand, The Monkees seemed very frusterated at being labled the "Pre-fab four", and was very obvious in this movie. The thing that worked in making this film such a great satire, is the groups savage self-mockery.
This was also the begining of the break-up. The single "Porpoise Song (Theme from "Head")" was called "an abysmal failure", hitting the charts at #41 in Cash Box, and #62 in Billboard. The movie "Head" bombed at the box office, when it premiered in 1968; yet, today is considered a cult classic. Peter Tork quit the group , citing exhaustion but obviously frusterated as well.

Myself, on a personal, had just watched it for the first time just recently; renting it from Hollywood Video. I enjoyed it. I appreciated the Monkees poking fun at themselves. There are many memorable scenes I had found quite humorous (like Micky Dolenz blowing up a Coke machine in the desert with a tank! Davy Jones in a boxing match getting the "you-know-what" knocked out of him!)

I hope whoever is reading this finds this to be insightful, and helpful. All I can say is this; if you enjoyed the '60's tv show, and enjoyed the antics, and comedy, you will also love "Head".

Summary: psychadelic
Review: Probably the best rock movie ever made, next to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" but not as depressing. Very innovative, setting the standard for rock videos for years to come, also some of the best Monkees music on record.

Summary: Debunking the myth - The Monkees "Head"
Review: Head is a fun, very funny, psychedelic trip through the reality that was the Monkees in 1968. It was their way of 'thumbing their noses' at the pop industrial machine that had created them. As the guys move from one surreal vignete to another, they take no prisoners bursting the public perception of themselves. This film shows how trapped by the industry that had created them the 4 Monkees felt. It demonstrates how they are unable to escape the 'Black Box' of Monkeedom, despite their actions. It also shows how little respect the Monkees received from their peers (they were dandruff in Victor Mature's hair, for example). Excellent music caps off this great statement of frustration. But then, why should you believe me? Since I know nothing!

Review: ... Okay, i own this movie and it rocks!! It is extremely confusing the 1st time ya see it, but after seein it a few times it kinda begins to make sense. Its got some good music in it too, i love the porpoise song, which was written by Carole King. It is actually VERY funny, and u notice something new everytime you watch it! its a very fun movie to watch, especially if youre in the mood for some phsycadelicness. If your a Monkees fan, i think you'll like it, no love it... but hey guys, Head is still awesome!!! You should definitaly buy it, and get Magical Mystery Tour with The Beatles while your at it!!

Summary: Phantasmogoric Splendor
Review: The Monkees did an excellent job of uncovering the truth behind their own story, although it ruined them. The movie seems like a psychedelic trip, but in all actuality it is the story of the sixties, you just have to know what you are looking for. Jumping scenes, wonderful music, and the four best actors/musicians in the buisness have to make one of my favorite movies. World Peace, Free Love, Spiritual Understanding, ~Meags
