Review: If you love the those Romantic Classic movies then "That Touch of Mink" is for you. The movie stars Cary Grant and Doris Day, where a Rich man of the world meets a true small time girl. But the road to happiness has a few problems along the way. This movie also stars Don Knots, Audrey Meadows,John Astin, and The New York Yankees. It a great movie for any fan of either Grant's or Day's.

Summary: Virginal Day captures Cary's character on her terms-marriage
Review: In "That Touch of Mink", perrenial good girl Doris Day falls in love with a tycoon protrayed by Cary Grant, but is reluctant to go to bed with him without a wedding ring. Doris plays Cathy Timberlake, an unemployed computer operator in New York, who when she is splashed on by the limo belonging to Cary's character, while on her way to an interview, ultimately falls in love with the man she at first wants to strangle for'Practially ruining my dress'. Her roommate, played by Audrey Meadows, urges her not to give in, but after going with the man from the UN to The Carribbean, realizes that she won't get him unless its under her terms - with a wedding reing. Adding to the fun, are Gig Young as Cary's depressed financial advisor, and John Astin as a smarmy Unemployment office clerk, Mr. Beasley, who wants to get Cathy into bed. It's a quite enjoyable film, though Miss Day seems to play the same Frigid character in so mamy of her films, it would have been nice to see her give in to the fantasy.

Summary: A Touch Of Classic Romance.
Review: In this classic 1962 romantic comedy, it is the wonderful pairing of quintessential girl-next-door Doris Day, and ever suave and sophisticated Cary Grant, who create the magic herein. ............. Doris Day plays Cathy Timberlake, a country girl in the big city, who rooms with the world weary "Honeymooners" alum Audrey Meadows in a small apartment. Cary Grant plays the debonair and of course, handsome Philip Shayne, a captain of industry who is a bachelor. Although not in the market for romance, he becomes intrigued when his limousine accidently splashes Miss Timberlake, as he comes to call her, in the streets of Manhattan. Philip Shayne doesn't know it yet, but with the sardonic and cynical tutelage of Meadows, Miss Timberlake will soon be Mrs. Shayne. ................ This Delbert Mann outing, is one of the most refreshing of it's genre. Like the wonderful classic "Pillow Talk", you will smile and laugh all along the merry way. The incomparable and charming Gig Young is terrific as Grant's go-fer. In one of many favorite moments that never fail to make me laugh, Young, in the historic Automat on 42nd Street, gets a loud smack across the face, as employee Audrey Meadows' hand reaches out and slaps him through the sandwich slot, sans sandwich. ............ My other favorite in the movie is Day's umemployment benefits counselor played by pre-Gomez Addams comedian John Astin. He is wonderfully slimy and lecherous, as he parlays a promise of extension for her dwindling benefits, into a date consisting of a live chicken transport truck, a bottle of "Cold Duck" and destination?...A charming little dump called "Al's Motel". The culmination of the story begins, at Philip Shayne's realization that he loves Cathy Timberlake, when he finds out she's at Al's Motel with Astin. It is then, that the feathers really start to fly. With many obstacles to hurdle, Grant is not a bit chicken, as he rushes to the motel to save the Day, literally. ............. For one of the best examples of a genre lost, the art of the innocent romantic comedy. "That Touch Of Mink", is just the touch you need to feel and experience too.

Summary: Cary Grant's most moving role - you can feel his pain.
Review: It's probably pointless wasting my ire on what was intended as innocent fun, but there isn't much of that, and it is easy to see why Cary Grant, way before his time, cinema's greatest actor, gave up the ghost - minor compensation comes from his evident, double-taking disgust at the tired antics. There is a brief vein of fantasy that if mined could have made for a much more enjoyable film, but, you know, Doris Day.

Review: Now available on DVD. No old scratchy,faded print to watch. The only problem with this DVD version is, it is shown in squeezy wide-screen. Takes the enjoyment out of watching. Doris Day gets caught in the rain in New York City. She gets splashed from the road water by a very luxurious car with a well-to-do man inside, Cary Grant. Doris ends up at the employment agency where John Astin, who is a clerk, once again tries to ask her for a date. But his thoughts are more aggressive. But Doris is a lady and turns him down. She goes to cafe where through the tuna salad window compartment she gossips with Audrey Meadows who is a server on the other side. Cary Grant sees Doris and apologizes for him for splashing her with the car. So Gig Young does his duty, and Doris says "Money doesn't buy good manners". Reluctantly, Doris goes with Gig to meet this tychoon. When they meet, it's love at first sight. She calls Audrey Meadows, her friend, and naturally her friend is concerned all she can do is offer some good sound advice. She doesn't want her friend to be hurt. Very cute, mature film for the middle-aged adults. Many laughs along the way. Dick Sargent (Bewitched tv series) has a small role. Just wait until you see what havoc Doris Day causes at the UNIVAC building. The first computer database.

Summary: Great Movie - Poor Quality Artisan DVD release!!!!
Review: Now that DVD's have been around for several years and people have Home Theatres etc, SHAME ON ARTISAN for releasing such a poor quality DVD!!!! If this was digitally remastered (as stated)it was poorly executed.Note: the DVD suggests this is a WIDESCREEN movie presentation NOT!! In fact this DVD is a STANDARD FORMAT picture (TV size) with true LETTERBOX limitations (Black horizontal & vertical bars). What this means is a very small picture centered in a Standard or WIDESCREEN television. CAUTION: Artisan is notorious for releasing these false formats. CONSUMER BEWARE: The only true WideScreen format is Anamorphic WideScreen (automatically adjusts to television screen size), Enhanced for WideScreens or Enhanced for 16:9 Televisions. This movie is a cute movie with Doris Day & Cary Grant but be cautious or skip DVD's by Artisan. Only Extra - the trailer. Enjoy something else!

Summary: Nice Comedy
Review: Pleasant and harmless comedy which has some very funny moments indeed, about an unemployed small town girl in New York (Doris Day), who accidentally meets millionaire man-of-the-world (Cary Grant) and falls in love with him. This film belongs to that kind of late '50s and early '60s glamorous chic fluff that was being made at Universal Studios at that time, with the aforementioned Day, Rock Hudson, James Garner, Tony Randall, et al. Gig Young and Audrey Meadows give fine support as friends of the starring couple. John Astin (future Gomez Addams of the well-remembered 1960s TV series "Addams Family") is very funny as an extremely unpleasant character who's after Doris Day, and Richard "Dick" Sargent (later to be "Bewitched's" second Darrin Stephens) has a nice bit as a honeymooner in Bermuda.
