Summary: and you may call me Mame...!
Review: Life without Auntie Mame, is life without living! I love this movie, it is a cult classic! All my closest friends can recite lines over and over and laugh and laugh for hours about it. "Mame, sugar!" - what would we do without you?

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE COMEDY
Review: This is the movie to own if you only have one movie in your collection. It is as fresh as the day it first appeared at Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas of 1958. It is a movie I can watch over and over and still find funny . Russell is Auntie Mame. Life is a banquet and so is this video.

Summary: Rosalind Russell is the best actor ever!!!!
Review: Rosalind Russell is superb as the excentric Mame Dennis. Her wit, charm, humor, and quick thinking has my husband and I laughing out loud and reciting practically every word verbatim every time we watch, which is often! Along with her wonderful supporting cast, Rosalind Russell is a woman anyone would love to have as their aunt. Each moment of the show keeps you wanting to see more and up until the last scene you are mesmorized by the irreplacable, "Roz." Live, Live, Live, Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!!

Summary: At last... Auntie Mame in widescreen!
Review: I love this movie. Whenever I find it on TV, I have to stop and watch it. Rosalind Russell's eccentric Auntie Mame is a wonderful, warm-hearted, whacky woman, and it's easy to see why her nephew Patrick is so fond of her. "Live, live, live!" is her motto, and she does her best to protect Patrick from the boring, conservative, "knowing The Right People," life "Uncle Dwight" (his trustee from the Knickerbocker Bank) would like him to lead. This movie is a wonderful lesson in keeping an open-mind and open heart towards people, life, and all life's experiences. And now I can watch it whenever I want in all its widescreen glory!

Summary: I want her to be my Auntie Mame!
Review: This is the Mame movie! I will review the Lucille Ball version under that movies heading. For anyone that has read the book this is the version for you. Rosalind Russell is perfectly cast in this roll. She is the quintessential Mame. Her clothes and overall attitude is just perfect. Forrest Tucker is the perfect southern gentleman to see the misplacement of Mame in the department store. While I liked Coral Browne as the "First Lady of the American Stage" I will admit that Bea Arther was better (alas for this movie she was a bit young to play the part as she was only 35). Peggy Cass made for a lovable Agnes Gooch. Roger Smith played a very good looking and very believable "Aryan from Darien." The sets are just right, grand but "real." All in all this movie held true to the feel and tenor of the book. Read the book and you will find several situations that Rosalind Russell would have been wonderful at pulling iff but it NEVER would have made it past the studio censors! Watch Auntie Mame enjoy it... do not compare it to Mame... its like watching West Side Story and saying its better then Romeo and Juliet. They are different movies and can be enjoyed separately!

Review: I have no serious complaints with this DVD, but I'm not thrilled by it either.

Summary: I love this film but can't get it on DVD!
Review: I only just saw this film for the first time last week. It was on TV and I didn't bother to tape it - bad decision. I LOVED the film; Rosalind Russell is amazing and the script had me in stitches. I am so desperate to get this wonderful film on DVD or VHS but it doesn't seem to be on offer in the correct format for Region 2 (I live in the UK).

Can anyone help?

Summary: Reeaaallly TOP Drawer!!
Review: After reading through many of the reviews of this marvelous movie I could not help but be dismayed at the (few) fools that put this gem down. This movie is a classic and if you have not been fortunate enough to see it I strongly recommend that you do so without delay. As for the morons that give this movie anything but 5 stars I wish them to have the braces on their brains loosened a little. And while they're at it, maybe they could actually read some of those "decorative" books they have lying around collecting dust. Indeed!
