Review: How can you not love Audrey Hepburn? With her kindness, her fresh beauty... Not only she was a great actress but also a great humanitarian, and that's why I love her and can't get tired of seeing all of her films again and again. "Sabrina" is just as delightful as Audrey, and if you like romance-comedies you'll love this one! I'm specially fond of the part when she sings "La vie en rose" to Humphrey Bogart. Really charming! She can truly captivate you and brighten up your screen. And Billy Wilder's direction is perfect as always. So if you're either a Audrey Hepburn or a Billy Wilder fan, you can't miss this one out. Let's put it this way: if you don't have it, buy it now! You won't regret it!

Summary: STUPENDOUS...SUPERB!!!
Review: I just happened to run across this movie on television one night recently and was HOOKED! Having never really watched a Bogart film before, I was amazed at how great he was! Although he was 30 years or so older than Hepburn, he was very believable...and, yes, dare I say, SEXY! I have always been an Audrey Hepburn fan, and she doesn't disapppointment here, either. It's a shame the sparks between the two aren't highlighted a little more, but you know they're there...if only she realized she was over David sooner and that Linus was the man for her (typical, huh?)! I have also seen the 1995 remake and it was a total mistake! You can't go wrong with this original version...once you watch it, you'll go back to it again and again!

Summary: Last hurrah of sweet old times
Review: This is a sweet but old fashionned story of amourous gold digger and is surprisingly more than entertaining: with backgroung of ice cream sweet music of fourties and old word geography (going to Paris was still a "thing" , which extended reputation of the primarily 19th century city into fifties.) The social structure and social barriers which till now still persist but for political correctness are now not so bluntly exposed, are the main idea of the story. The movie has actually some good and intelligent dialogues that are missing in the most of new movies. I am collecting intelligent quotations from all movies: in this one I got four good ones. It has good acting, and Humphrey Boggart is perfect for the role.

Review: Sabrina is the biggest gold digger movie in Hollywood. It's a fairy tale for every woman, she finds a rich man. Women love rich men. The biggest disappointment about this movie is she finds a rich ugly old fart(Bogart) who is 30 years older than her. Bogart is too old for anyone.

Review: I never laughed so much by watching a romantic comedy. Every single human being that had to do with the making of this picture was superb. I never realised that William Holden was so hilarious, and especially as a golden boy (with blond hair). Just watch him from the moment he rediscovers Sabrina after her return. If the plot had a more serious and historically trascendental content, it would have been rated even better than Casablanca (I am a fan of Casablanca, but then who is not). Billy Wilder and his co-writers produced in Sabrina one of the most refined and hilarious script for a romantic comedy. It shows that every single line of dialogue was carefully crafted with the delicacy of a surgeon. Every single word, or even sound, could not have been better conceived and placed, and none of them was wasted. In most movies one gets the feeling that the writer was trying to fill in, but here one gets the impression that the writers had a slate full of too many great lines and were trying to discard the good from the better ones. Humphrey Bogart was perfect for his role as a cold business mogul. I wondered why such a person would renounce to his power and position to run away with a girl. But, this was not just a girl, it was Audrey Hepburn, then I thought that I would have done the same. Don' get me wrong, I am as materialistic as anybody can be, but who can resist the chance of eloping with Ms. Hepburn to Paris and see "la vie en rose". It is very realistic. After all, Humphrey Bogart could have reasonably excecuted, once in Paris, an arrangement to provide for the rest of their lives given his having steered such an empire. It is a well written review and very detailed analysis of this film. Sabrina falls into the category of Hollywood fluff or light entertainment, which makes it difficult to figure in the 100 best film of AFI(American Film Institute), regardless of how well it is done. At least Sabrina is as good a hollywood fluff can get with a cleverly written script. I like most of Billy Wilder movies, including "some like it hot", but Sabrina has more subtle lines of dialogue that despite their apparent shallowness in the delivery they portray a sarcastic and profound remarks on social realities with plenty of laughter. "some like it hot" is also very funny but with no such undertones.

Review: There is such chemistry between Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn. They are both terrific actors . The story is well-written and I really enjoyed when the father sat on the olive jar!

Summary: Don't marry a geriatric just because he's Humphrey Bogart...
Review: The first Sabrina I saw was the 1995 remake. I love all things with Harrison Ford and promptly fell in love with that movie. Ford, Ormond and Kinnear all play off each other very well. I also loved the mother's role in the movie. Then I saw the original. I love Audrey Hepburn and now Humphrey Bogart too, though the age difference was a bit much. He looked only a little younger than his "father" in this movie. Other than that, this was a better movie. I loved the parts in Paris, where she was learning to cook. And the father that is present here and lacking in the 1995 version is a delightful surprise. The mother is sadly lacking in personality, but the escapades of the old man are wonderful as he tries to hide his cigar-smoking. My favorite scene would have to be where he pours his martini into the olive bottle because he cannot get it out. I love both versions, each with their own merits to recommend them. Watch both and decide for yourself.

Summary: A Great movie but.........
Review: Humphrey Bogart was all wrong for the part of Linus in this movie. He was much too old. Instead of looking like a suitor, he looked like a grandfather compared to Hepburn. I must admit that Hepburn played the role of Sabrina superbly, but the chemistry was just not there between Sabrina and Linus. I love Humphrey Bogart...he is probably the greatest actor of all time, but I was a little disapointed in him in this particular part. It was almost as if he made Linus too stiff, even in the end when Linus had a change of heart, the transformation was just not there. This is still a great movie and I will probably watch it again and again just because Bogey and Hepburn are in it.

Summary: Great acting, a little slow at the end.
Review: I am afraid to say that I did not enjoy this movie as much as the other Audrey Hepburn films I have seen. I am not sure why this is, exactly, but I'm sure it has something to do with the second half of the movie. It slows down. A lot. There is likely a reason for this, as who am I to question the direction of Billy Wilder? The film has its funny spots throughout, especially in the beginning, and the acting is brilliant as well. It just loses momentum at the end. This seems to coincide with the lack of William Holden's David character receiving less and less screen time. About the acting. It was perfect. Not to say that these were the greatest performances I have ever seen; they're not. They are just perfect for this particular movie. Let me explain. First about Holden. He is very entertaining as David, kind of like a stupid little puppy, not unlike the pooch Audrey's Sabrina brings home upon returning from Paris. Could this have been on purpose? While I'm looking deeper into the film, could it be that David and Linus, as played by Bogart, are in fact representing the id and superego of a whole person? I don't know. Anyway, onto Bogart's performance, and it is teriffic. I'm not a big fan of Bogey, but he did what he had to here. It is truly a marvel of filmmaking that you don't completely hate both David and Linus for what they do to Sabrina. You want to hate them, you know you should, but you can't. Somehow Holden and Bogart are able to create, with the help of the terrific Wilder's direction, characters you can't even dislike. And this is important, for you are supposed to like both of them in the end. This was probably easier for Holden, for his character is so stupid that you feel pity for him, even if you want to say "Wake up!" to Sabrina for wanting him after the way he treated her before her makeover in Paris. I don't know how Bogart did it. And Hepburn is perfect too, let's not forget her. Although I liked her better as the playful, lovesick child in the beginning to the world-wise, lovesick adult after she comes back from Gay Paris (not to mention I have never much cared for her short hair look). If she were any more understated in this role, she would be an automaton and we would be incapable of caring for her. If, on the other hand, she gave a, shall we say, louder performance we would hate the two men regardless of how well they were played because we would be able to see Sabrina being hurt so badly. In her quietly understated performance, however, Ms. Hepburn becomes the glue that holds the film together. And it is not a bad film. Very often funny, and sometimes insightful, it is sure to entertain many with its lovestory. However, it just didn't float my boat, as it were. Upon reading this review, I see that, regardless of my attempts to paint this movie as a good one, I have come across as seemingly hating it. This is not true. It simply runs too slowly for my tastes at the end. So there.

Summary: This Film has Charm that Movies just don't have these days.
Review: When I first saw this movie, I watched it in awe. And in the total of three days, I had watched it eight times. You'd see me walking down the sidewalk whistling "Isn't It Romantic?". I just couldn't stop watching it. This movie's charm just didn't wear off. I watch Sabrina every weekend. I feel, almost, as if Audrey is helping me through my problems, saying, "Hey, look at me. I went after the cute one, but look at the good spot I ended up in!" This is a movie I'll always be happy to return to, so all my stress in life can slip away, as I watch Sabrina.
