Summary: A secret gem
Review: If you are of Indian (as in the country of India) descent, and easily offended, don't watch this movie. In it, Peter Sellers does for the reputation of Indians what he did for the French when he invented Inspector Closeau. Otherwise, it's a riot.In this case, his character (Hrundi V. Bakshi) is a pleasant film actor who creates disaster wherever he goes. After being fired from a movie for some pretty good causes, he is accidentally invited to a party at the house of the film's producer. After that, everything that can go wrong does, aided by the house's fancy automation, the river in the living room, and a painted elephant that must, of course, be washed in the swimming pool. This 1968 film includes early appearances by Claudine Longet (before there was any gunfire), Gavin MacLeod (before he became captain of the Love Boat), and Carol Wayne (before she became Johnny Carson's "afternoon movie lady"). Steven Franken turns in a great performance as a waiter at the party who deals with the situation by drinking all alcohol that crosses his path. Eventually, it all turn out OK, as Hrundi (Sellers) winds up with the girl (Longet).

Summary: A Joy to Watch!
Review: I've watched this movie about a thousand times and I have never get bored of doing it, it's just so hilariously funny, that I could go on watching it over and over again, forever. Peter Sellers, the master of comedy himself, stars as Hrundi Bakshi, in this un-timely film. He's invited by mistake to a lavish dinner party and from then on, all goes wrong, with the aid of a drunken waiter, played with great comedy skill by Steve Franken. Pretty french actress and singer Claudine Longet, plays a basically nice & good natured starlet, who's taken to the party by a lecherous producer (Gavin McLeod), eventually befriending our hero. Lots of gags in this sarcastic and ironic look at Hollywood parties and its characters (the fading cowboy star, the italian/latin bombshell, the starlets, the highbrow senator's wife, the affected phony princess, the stuffy party hostess, etc.) You must watch the dvd, the film being shown in its original widescreen format is a must-see, 'cos you won't miss any details of what's going on!

Review: The Edwards/Sellers combo just can't be beat! With a simple story which has Sellers invited to a party by mistake, Edwards turns Sellers loose to do what he does best - keep the viewer in stitches! This movie is a riot of laughter, and a show of comic genius!

Review: I've seen this movie like 50 times and everytime that I watch it makes me laught out of control.
You may know Peter Sellers from the classic movies "Pink Panther" from the 60's.
"The Party" is about an indian actor (Sellers) that comes to America for a leading role in a movie but he's so clumsy that ruins a whole location. So when the director calls the boss to inform him about the mess that had been made, he writes Hrundi's (Sellers) name in the guest list of a party that he was having at home.
When Hrundi arrives to the party finds out the his white shoes are dirty with car oil so he cleans them in a water canal of the house entry making him loose his shoe. Then he gets bored because anybody knows him, so he starts to talk to the people but they're not interested in him so he explores the house while making disasters. Then he doesn't even have a place in the dinning table and well I can tell you that he goes from that to ruin the master's room bathroom.
Honestly if you buy this movie you won't be sorry AT ALL, it's not very long and you can listen to it in English, French and Spanish.

Summary: Vintage Sellers
Review: THE PARTY is a relatively obscure Blake Edwards/Peter Sellers comedy. The obscurity is curious when you think about how many hilarious movies these two gentlemen have made. THE PARTY doesn't have much of a plot and it's a little slow at times, though. It's basically just a vehicle for Sellers, who plays a bumbling actor from India. As Hrundi V. Bakshi, he single-handedly destroys a movie set, then is mistakenly invited to a chic dinner party at the home of the movie's producer. Despite a thin plot and some slow moments, THE PARTY is a classic example of Sellers' comic brilliance. He stumbles innocently, but devastatingly, through the party in one funny bit after another. While it doesn't quite attain the level of Sellers' best known material (the Pink Panther movies come to mind), it's nevertheless quite funny. Sellers fans will love it, and I think most people looking for a good laugh will find some here. Give THE PARTY a look.

Summary: A lesser-known classic...
Review: Blake Edwards is an underappreciated director - perhaps because he has made so many bad films at the end of his career. Yet he remains one of the great cinematic voices of the sixties and seventies. Any Austin Powers fan would do well to watch his films, which are the real deal. Edwards captured the spirit of the swinging sixties the way few others have. And he and Stanley Kubrick were the only two American directors who were able to properly utilize Peter Sellers. I wonder how this movie will play to politically correct crowds. Much of the humor derives from Sellers' doing an Indian accent. Blake Edwards Breakfast at Tiffany's is criticized for the somewhat hateful caricature of a Chinese man played by Mickey Rooney. In this film however, Sellers' makes us laugh at the character without robbing him of his dignity - he is, after all, the romantic lead. In the end, what this film really is is Edwards' homage to silent film. Yes, there is talking but most of the humor is physical and much of the dialogue is obscured by music. For any fans of the Pink Panther series, this film would be a welcome addition.

Review: This is one the funniest movies I've ever seen. Peter Sellers is wonderful as a bumbling bit part actor who gets invited to a Hollywood party by accident. THe director made use of Sellers brilliant comic timing and ability to do physical comedy. Many of the gags are predictable, but it doesn't matter- it's still really funny, and one you can over again and still laugh!

Review: They should stick this one in a time capsule to be reopened and played 100 years from now. The very 60s look and feel tends to detract from the film's near-balletic sight gags and Holly/Bollywood satire. It is good fun, however, thanks to the late great Peter Sellers. No, it's not Pink Panther, but it is terrific to see Sellers in one of his lesser-known but more eccentric characters. You could put him in an empty house just have him walk around and I'll end up laughing. Anyone else but Sellers as the indomitable Hrundi V. Bakshi and "The Party" would have ended long ago.

Review: The opening sequence at the set of the big movie is fantastic. Sellers plays a terrible actor from India that ruins thmovie.The director voves that he will never work in Hollywood again. By mistake, Sellers is invited to a party at his home. Naturally he totally ruins the part and creates chaos. A must for anyone who enjoys the "Pink Panther" movies!
