Summary: My favorite movie
Review: This rates as my favorite move of all time. The names of the characters, the acting and the story are all classically the best. Of coarse, I love silly comedy. This isn't just silly though, you'll see it and walk away a little scared as it reflects the craziness in the world and the powers that be that hold all those nuclear bombs, ready to vaporize us while holding on to their tenacious grip of whatever power they may hold. As Colonal Jack D. Ripper states "war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids". Enough said!

Summary: NOT IN LETTERBOX -- 1.33:1 ONLY!
Review: Everyone knows this is an All-Time Great Film, but be forewarned. It is _not_ in letterbox or multiaspect or whatever the blurb claims; it is in 4:3 aspect ratio. If that's okay by you, it's your choice, but the DVD is mis-advertised; I wouldn't have purchased it had I known.

Summary: A Terrifyingly Hilarious Classic
Review: When Kubrick and Peter George set out to adapt the latter's novel "Red Alert", they planned a serious movie, it is said: but as they went along, lifting dialogue directly out of US government publications (including such gems as Gen. Turgidson's "I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed! But I am saying only thirty to forty million killed, tops! Uh, depending on the breaks") they couldn't escape the dark absurdity of it all. In its brilliant final form, the film examines, with a wry and jaundiced eye, the synthesis of jingoistic patriotism with aggression and male sexuality. The film incorporates some of the most audacious visual puns ever filmed: the title sequence with one plane refueling another, hose penetrating and languidly thrusting, with saccharine lovey-dovey music ("Try a Little Tenderness"!)-- is an achingly funny parody of a porno flick. And so many other classic sequences reinforce the connection: General Turgidson and his mistress, General Ripper's obsession with the "purity of our precious bodily fluids" (as he says, "Women sense my power, they seek out the Life Essence. I do not avoid women, Mandrake, but I do deny them my essence..."), the B-52 crew flipping through Playboy with girlie pinups and "survival" gear like prophylactics, nylons, lipstick... Colonel Guano and his obsession with "deviant preverts", Premier Kissoff and his partying ("Mr President, the premier is a man of the people, but he is also a man, if you get my drift..."), the plan to survive in deep mineshafts with a 10-1 female to male ratio, women (of course!) chosen for their desirability (Mr President, the Rooskies might occupy more mineshafts than we and BREED more prodigiously...") and the crowning imagery of Slim Pickens riding the bomb down to its target, the bomb like a huge parody phallus, and the deadly orgasmic explosion of the bomb. So many other classic images: the evil Dr Strangelove ("It was Merkwuerdigliebe, but he changed it when he became a citizen") with the oval arc of fluorescent lights above and behind, framing his head like a halo... the American troops outside Burpleson AFB fighting those inside while a billboard looms above proclaiming "Burpleson Airforce Base... Peace Is Our Profession" -- they all point out how the synthesis indeed is "merkwuerdig Liebe", truly, "Strange Love". Of course, the film is a veritable treasury of classic images and imperishably funny dialogue as well ("Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" "Gee, I wish we had one of them Doomsday Machines!" "Sweetheart, I told you never to call me here-- of course it isn't only physical, I deeply respect you as a human being...oh, by the way, don't forget to say your prayers!") And the final sequence of Dr Strangelove rising from his wheelchair: "I have a plan---- Mein Fuehrer! I CAN WALK!!"" And as the Bombs explode, obliterating life, Vera Lynn croons, "We'll meet again-- don't know where -- don't know when--" Thought-provoking even while it makes you laugh. One the the best films ever made.

Summary: WOW!
Review: What is Stanley Kubrick's best film is one of the funniest dark comedies ever made. Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove, one of three roles,is hilarious and the rest of the film is just great.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A perfect Kubrick event of epic proportions.
Review: This has to be one of Kubrick's best pictures. Peter Sellars is a very talented actor his performance adds to the magic of this film. There are several things that are factors of a great picture. Stanley Kubrick's script, a great cast, and excellent acting are the ingredients of this perfect picture.

Summary: A Top of the line Movie, one of Kubrick's best.
Review: A perfect movie, that is as funny as it is serious. The cast, the script, and of course Kubrick make this a very good movie for all to see.

Summary: One of the best films in the world
Review: Sellers is god! Best performance and not to mention George C. Scott and amazing directing by Stanley kubrick.

Summary: How to increase your pleasure
Review: By accident I read Richard Rhodes' DARK SUN (a history of the A-bomb) before I viewed this film. Hard to believe how deep Kubrick's wit could cut into real life at the time he made the film. DR STRANGEGLOVE puts the Cold War to shame.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Hotter than a nuclear meltdown
Review: This movie is one of the best ever made! From the opening sex dance between the tanker and the B-52, to the absurdity of the squabling in the War Room as the world ends, it's a masterpiece. The characters are well developed, and poignantly fitting to their intended roles.

The scenes in the War Room, at Burpleson AFB and onboard the B-52 are awesome. From Colonel Kong going over the survival gear ("shoot, a guy could have a good time in Vegas with all this stuff"), to Gen Turgidson - with a copy of the book of Megadeaths on his part of the roundtable - describing - arms spread like wings - how the bombers could get through, to Mandrake and Ripper in Ripper's office . . . Oh, heck, there are too many good scenes to mention. The movie is simply one of the best ever made. I watch it at least 2 times a year and pick up new things each time! There aren't too many movies that you can say you get something new out of each time you see it!

A great movie for anyone who enjoys political comedy! (A movie of a much more serious tone that connects well with Dr. Strangelove is Fail Safe - you should check that out as well).
