Summary: One of my favorite John Wayne movies
Review: I read all of the reviews written here. I happen to like the movie. It does much better justice to the charactors then the Omar Shariff version. I think John Wayne made a great looking Mongolian warlord. Personally I am tired of the same old western where the only thing that changes are the names of the charactors & the state they're in. This is more like The Quiet Man or Fort Apache & by far better than the "B" Westerns he did in the 30's to war hero of the 40's & 50's & then coybowed himself to death before he became a cop in the 70's. Being how it's a different role. A role in which John Wayne as well as the beautiful Susan Hayward played very well. I though it to be very convincing. The love hate relationship between them was superb. More action could of been added considering the story line. But I love it just the way it is. Me & my little collection of 10 John Wayne movies shall live happily ever after. All I can sum up is that regardless of the movie or the type of role John Wayne & Susan Hayward did great jobs.

Summary: A Bad Movie Buff's Dream
Review: If you're a fellow masochist when it comes to movies, and revel in the "what-were-they-thinking" giggles that are provided by "Plan 9 From Outer Space", "Glen or Glenda?" and "Inchon", you will LOVE this movie!

Don't take my word for it alone - it's just SO bad that Harry & Michael Medved featured this movie in both "The Golden Turkey Awards" and "The Hollywood Hall of Shame"! The first book was written before the cancer linkage to the Yucca Flats atomic testing program in 1953 was uncovered, but the second book details the shocking loss of life associated with the aftermath of this production - there's a real chance the realization of these problems is what drove Howard Hughes over the deep end for good.

Summary: Retrograde Arnold Schwartzenegger impersonation
Review: In an attempt to mimick to Gobi desert, this John Wayne movie was filmed in "Snow Canyon" just north of St, George, Utah, along with other localities in Utah. If you live anywhere near the area and/or are familiar with the area, it's fun to watch just for the recognition factor. But if you enjoy John Wayne's better acting, this is certainly not the picture for you. It reminds me of Arnold's 'fine acting skills' as portrayed in "Conan the Barbarian". It's no wonder Howard Hughes kept this film in hiding for so many years. Unless you are trying to collect every picture John Wayne ever made, and not having this one will spoil your collection, don't waste you money or your time.

Summary: A 6'4" Caucasian as a Mongolian Warrior...
Review: Need I say more? I thought this was the absolute worst casting job of all time. What's next, Sidney Poitier in the role of Adolf Hitler?

I thought it was absolutely laughable when I saw this movie once on a dreary Sunday afternoon on TV. John's trademark drawl saying lines like "Drink much wine - for I have made a mighty conquest this day" - these were almost as funny as any comedy written.

Summary: The Duke as an Emperor
Review: One must admit that Wayne is slightly miscast as the implacable Genghis Khan, but the story is not that bad. The plot is much better than the Genghis Khan movie starring Omar Sharif. This superiority probably owes to the fact that the Sharif story doesn't even attempt historical accuracy while "The Conqueror" seems to be loosely based on the swashbuckling Harold Lamb book "Genghis Khan: Emperor of All Men."

Summary: Rotten!
Review: Possibly the worst movie ever made? John Wayne must have been desperate for something when he took this part! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE John Wayne, but really, this movie is the pits. He wasn't cut out to be a Mongol. It's interesting to watch just to see how bad a movie can get! It's so extremely dumb!

Summary: A BOMB, figuratively and literally!
Review: The well-documented fact that the principal actors in this film eventually died of cancer affirms that this one was doomed from the start. Accepting Wayne and Hayward as Asians is more unbelievable as blue-eyed Burt Lancaster as "Geronimo".

While "The Conqueror" does sport high production values, the absurdity of the casting makes it one of the looniest decisions ever to come from a major Hollywood studio.

Ed Wood would've done better!

Summary: Hollywood 's Best Flop
Review: There is no reason to watch this very lenghly , grandiose epic. Except for the seductive Sword Dance by powdered, buffed and very beautiful Susan Hayward .Also you may decide on it because it offers machismotic John Wayne's most unusual Western. And you may also desire to view it because it has some of the most hilarious lines in motion picture history. It is also decried as Hollywood's most disasterous financial and critical spectaculars, which placed it in the Book of World Records. It is also noted as controversial because everyone in it died as a result of working in a nuclear waste disposal, test site. This today remains a mystery for the tabloids .

Review: There is no reason to watch this very lenghly, grandiose epic about Ghengis Kahn and his love afair with Bortai, the exotic siren of Hollywood legends. Except for the seductive Sword Dance by powdered, puffed and very beautiful Susan Hayward. Also you may decide on it because it is machismotic John Wayne's most unusual Western. And you may also desire to see it because it has some of the most hilarious lines in motion picture history. It is also decried as Hollywood's most disasterous financial and critical spectaculars which placed it in the Guiness Book of World Records. It may also tempt you because everyone in it died as a result of working in a nuclear waste dump. It is only for the most discriminating of tastes.
