Summary: Disney's Lovable Duck Gets His Due
Review: Finally, Disney's greatest character gets the spotlight! Donald is the everyman-just a regular guy that has to put up with the travails of everyday life. Whether it's a wild animal or an inanimate object that raises his ire, Donald keeps the viewer laughing with his lovable voice and temperamental antics. This volume features Donald's debut in "The Wise Little Hen" and all his starring shorts from 1936's "Donald and Pluto" to 1941's "Chef Donald". It also includes a short piece on Donald's original voice Clarence "Ducky" Nash, photo stills and memorabilia stills, and introductions and commentary by Leonard Maltin. The easter eggs that I've found include a short 1940 short "The Volunteer" and two excerpts from "The Reluctant Dragon". It would have been nice if the DVD also included all of Donald's shorts in which he wasn't in the starring role, such as "Lonesome Ghosts" and "Orphan's Benefit" among others, but this is still one of the best collections of any kind that has been put together. I can't wait for the second volume, which will probably feature all of Donald's wartime shorts, to come out. It'll definitely be worth the wait, just like this set was. Now if Disney releases the 39 episode Quack Pack on DVD, all Donald Duck fans will have years of Donald viewing pleasure.

Summary: Ingenius cartoons, Irritating Leonard Maltin
Review: First off, these shorts are great. Donald is a legendary '8 minute cartoon' character among Mickey, Goofy, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, and Popeye. There are unforgettable classics in here, 'Don Donald', 'The Autograph Hound', 'Modern Inventions' and 'Window Cleaners' representing the best. The only flaw is Leonard Maltin. It's great that he played a part in getting these cartoons put onto dvd, but his segments that took place at the beginning of the dvd and before half of the shorts were very unnecessary and lame. Does he actually get paid for his job? If people get offended by some of the humor in these G-rated cartoons, which for some profound reason in his commentary he talks as if they do, then they belong in a mental home and should be prohibited from watching any type of television programs. There will obviously be another collection in Donald's series to look forward to, until then, the 36 toons here will be very hard to get tired of. You can't keep this angry duck down.

Review: Genuine greatness from the late thirties to the early forties... Our favorite Duck's thunderous personality brilliantly shines through! Just dig that 'Mr. Duck steps out' cartoon for a truly marvelously creative jazz dance odyssey at Daisy's! Absolutely incredible animation work that still very few can accomplish today...some forty years later! Absolutely priceless. Not to be missed!

Review: I agree with the other fine comments about this Donald Duck collection. These are some of the funniest and best cartoons ever. Orchids to whoever put the whole uncensored collection on DVD. (Onions to whoever censored "The Martins and the Coys" from "Make Mine Music"!)My favorite feature of this DVD is "Play All," which you can select from the menu, and every cartoon is played one after another. This probably seems unimportant, and is a feature taken for granted, but try watching a DVD collection where you watch one short subject and then the DVD returns to the main menu every time (e.g., The first season of "Green Acres") -- how annoying!! Now, if we can get a collector's edition of "Make Mine Music" including "The Martins and the Coys," I'll be happy!! (Are you listening, Disney?)

Review: I am 21 years old and I have been a huge fan of Donald Duck my whole life. I bought this DVD set for myself =). It shipped unbelivably fast and got here in three days. The next day, my 4 year old neighbor came and watched the whole first DVD with me. He absolutely loved it! He couldn't stop laughing. This is a great purchase (minus Maltin's boring speeches, this man looks like he's never watched a cartoon in his life!)and I am sooo thankful to Disney for releasing it!

Summary: BRILLIANT COLLECTION
Review: I have always been a huge fan of animation, particularly the golden age of animation of the 30's and 40's. It's high time sets like these started coming out. While Disney was never as cutting edge and sarcastic as Warner Bros., these older cartoons have a definite edge in them that you don't get in today's Disney animation. (...) Included in this set are two of Donald's Oscar Nominated cartoons including: "Good Scouts" in which Donald acts as scoutmaster for his three nephews for a nature hike through the wilderness. Story by Carl Barks. "Truant Office Donald" Donald is responsible for making sure his nephews get to school when they attempt to play hookey. Story by Carl Barks. Among the other great shorts are" "Donalds Nephews" Donald's first encounter with his three "angel" nephews, who proceed to destroy his home. Donald turns to the book "Modern Child Training" for help. Story by Barks! "Donald's Ostrich" Donald is the announcer of the Wahoo train station dealing with a troublesome piece of cargo : an ostrich. This was Donald's first short recieving top billing. "Donald's Golf Game" A great short in which Donald needs silence to concentrate on his golf game, but his nephews (who have been pressed into duty as caddies) have other plans, including a bag full of trick clubs. "Donald's Vacation" Donald decides to vacation in the great outdoors, but the denizens of the great outdoors are less than co-operative. More Barks! "Hockey Champ" Donald "the Hockey Champion of Duck Swamp" plays a game of hockey with his nephews. Barks! And much more. I cannot praise this set any higher, if you are a fan of Donald, Disney, or the golden age of animation, this set is for you!

Summary: Classic Donald-it's about time!
Review: I have been waiting for the Disney company to get wise to this idea for years. I grew up watching Disney shorts, and Donald has been a favorite character for all that time. These classic collection releases are a stroke of brilliance--proof that some of the people left at Disney are still more than just corporate money-grubbers. I was only dissapointed to discover that I had to wait even longer for a volume 2! If you enjoy quality family entertainment, being able to watch a cartoon with your kids without worrying about having to explain it to them afterwards, and you like to laugh--this is for you. And for the bad reviewer--if you don't like it, go watch some anime or something! Sorry, but millions of fans the world over disagree with you, and your very dry review sounds mysteriously like one written just to lower product ratings(You see those in every review--there's always some nimrod out there with nothing better to do than write 100 bad reviews for products he's never seen before). Get over it and go back to whatever cartoons float your boat. Those of us who can appreciate it will continue to enjoy the simple magic created without swearing, violence and innuendo by a company that became a world icon by standing for quality family entertainment.

Summary: Perfect contents, but a problem with packaging.
Review: I love this long awaited DVD. Thanks to this and the first two waves of Disney Treasures I own every cartoon and propaganda short featuring my favorite cartoon character. I have only one problem with this set and that involves the packaging. Please, I want to know if anyone else experienced this problem. When taking the first disc out of the jacket, I feel that the disc is very hard to take out. I have to actually bend the disc a little to get it out. I am afraid I will break it or cause damage to it Anyone else have this problem? Or any suggestions?
