Summary: What is UP with the transfer....?
Review: I have three, YES THREE red lines about 1 inch thick that runs through (so far) the first 2 eps. Am I the only one...? I returned it once and it still has them, sometimes they are worse than others, but sheesh it is annoying not to mention ugly. Should I try to exchange it at a different store? No other reviewer here mentions this. Of course the comedy is gold but there is just no excuse for this fuzzy red striped mess in the digital age.

Summary: Very Funny..Even The Grady Episodes
Review: I love this season and refer to it as "Sanford and Son--The Grady Years." Whitman Mayo stepped in and saved this show when Redd Foxx was missing due to contract disputes.

Of course the Fred episodes are classic. This set includes the classic episodes "Lamont , Is That You" (when Lamont and Rollo are seen going into the Gay Blade, "The Blind Mello Jelly Collection" (a too hilarious episode where Fred accidently gives away a record collection and finds that its worth money), and many more episodes I can rave about.

When Grady steps in to helm episodes 20-25 the laughs keep rolling. The episodes are still too funny including "Hello Cousin Emma, Goodbye Cousin Emma," and "Will The Real Fred Sanford Please Do Something."

Dont sleep on this set just because Fred isn't in all the episodes. These episodes are classics!

Summary: One of the best sitcoms ever
Review: I started watching stanford & son in 1988 which I found extremely hilarious. Even after 15 years that I have watched countless re-run, I still find it funny, and I find it worthwhile to collect all three seasons.

Sanford and Son are different from today's shows which are lack of humor and mostly are pretentious (such as making dumb facial expressions, "unintentional" falls or clumsiness). S&S delivers its punch with sharp and witty remarks, whose credit should go to Redd Foxx and the writers.

The script has been well prepared and written that almost all episodes portray the actual life as we live it, which show human's characters at our best and worst, and there are always morals of the story to be learnt from some episodes.

Although the main character made racial slurs and jokes about other ethnic groups, I find that to be what real life seems to be and I am not offended by it.

I purchased all 3 seasons because I have not got tired of watching the reruns, even for the first season after it has been released in DVD for 1 year.

Summary: These are great!
Review: I'm not a big Sanford and Son fan but I'm stationed overseas and the tv off base isn't very good. So I bought these DVDs and have been crackin' up!! They are hilarious! I just got Good Times and What's Happening, I can't wait to watch those!

Summary: CONTENT EXCELLENT BUT...VIDEO QUALITY EXTREMELY POOR
Review: I'M SURPRISED ONLY ONE OTHER REVIEW FOR THIS SET MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM AND BOY IS IT A PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS EPISODES THAT HAVE HORIZONTAL RED LINES RUNNING ACROSS THE SCREEN. THESE VARY IN INTENSITY FROM A LIGHT SHADE TO A DARKER SHADE BUT THEY ARE ALWAYS VISIBLE AND REALLY DETRACT FROM THE ENJOYMENT OF THE EPISODES IN MY OPINION. THE EPISODES THEMSELVES ARE CLASSIC S & S AND ARE GOOD FOR MANY LAUGHS BUT THERE IS REALLY NO EXCUSE FOR SONY RELEASING THIS SET WITH THE OBVIOUS DEFECTS THAT THESE DISCS HAVE. SONY PROBABLY SAVED A FEW BUCKS AND IN THIER RUSH TO GET THEM OUT THE DOOR JUST SKIPPED QC ALL TOGETHER. IS IT A TRANSFER PROBLEM? A MANUFACTURING DEFECT? WHO KNOWS?...BUT BE AWARE THAT YOU WILL HAVE SERIOUS VIDEO ANOMOLIES WITH THIS SET. IF YOU CAN LIVE WITH THAT, YOU WILL ENJOY THE CONTENT WITH FRED, LAMONT AND THE GANG(MOST NOTABLY ESTHER WHO IS OUTRAGEOUS!) WERE IN THEIR PRIME.

Summary: Warning: "Lamont Goes Karate" episode is NOT Un-Cut!
Review: I've always loved Sanford and Son and was very much looking forward to viewing the third season DVD set as it contains many of my favorite episodes. While I don't want to comment on the non-extras or transfer quality of the DVDs', as it's been mentioned in Amazon user reviews many times before, I do want to express my disappointment that one of my favorite episodes, "Lamont Goes Karate," is not entirely Un-Cut on this season set. I've seen this episode countless times on TV Land - therefore, when I first saw it on DVD I immediately noticed that dialog was cut from one of the scenes.

In the un-cut episode shown on TV Land there is an important scene where Grady warns JoJo Jackson outside the bar that Lamont is subject to fits when people bother him. While that scene is still present on the DVD, it is truncated as the subsequent dialog where Grady further warns JoJo of Lamont's body language before he gets ready to have one his nervous fits is totally missing. At 18:24 minutes you can plainly see where Grady is not yet finished talking to JoJo where the scene is cut short. The absence of that exposition really diminishes the forthcoming humorous climax because it does not completely set up the impression to JoJo that Lamont is a loose cannon - ready to explode at any second if made agitated or stressed. As a result, when Lamont does have a karate tantrum in front of JoJo, the viewer is left wondering why JoJo reacted in total disbelief and why it was better to leave Lamont alone.

For people that are familiar with this episode when shown on TV Land and already have this season set, compare the two and you will notice the same thing. Very disappointing.

In addition, there is no convenient "play all" option on the DVD menu. You would think that such an option would be a no-brainer on a DVD menu consisting of eight 25-minute episodes but apparently not.

Summary: The Best Sanford and Son Season
Review: If you are just starting your Sanford and Son collection, you should start with this season. It is the best. My favorite episodes are "The Blind Mellow Jelly Collection" and "This Land is Whose Land." This set is well put together, the video and audio quality are nice. No play all feature, but I don't really care about that. Most of the time I only want to watch one episode. The episodes are hysterical, and I know if I ever want a good laugh I can always watch Sanford.

Summary: One of the Sitcoms Funniest Seasons
Review: It was with great anticipation that I awaited the third season of the Sanford and Son DVD, as it is, in my opinion, the funniest in the show's history. Season three includes all of the shows hilarious co-stars, with the introduction of Grady Wilson played by Whitman Mayo, as well as more episodes featuring Aunt Esther, Bubba, Julio and Donna Harris. A few of the episodes will have Grady as the star, as Redd Foxx was absent from several shows this season due to a contract dispute.

A few of my favorite episodes include Fred Sanford, Legal Eagle(The courtroom scene will have you cracking up!), Super Flyer, and A House is Not a Poolroom. What I like most about the first two seasons of Sanford and Son on DVD, and I'm sure that season three is no exception, is that all the scenes that are taken out from the episodes that are shown on TVLand because of increased commercial time, are all included in the DVD.

Summary: SANDFORD AND SON IS A CLEVER SHOW
Review: Redd Foxx is one of the best comedians of the 70's and his series Sandford and son is a T.V Classic. Season 3 is one of the best out of the 5 seasons spanning on 3 dvds. Due to contract desputes Redd is missing from certain episodes the show explains Fred is in St. Louis and Witmann Mayo(grady)Stay's in charge of Sanford and Son. Don't be discourge Mayo is a funny character but not near as funny or clever as Foxx. My only complaint is that season 3 DVD does not have subtitles hence my 4 star rating. SO in closing if you wanna laugh you cant go wrong with Sanford. If you dont like it you might get one across your lip you big dummy
