Summary: Tony is involved in more money and more sex.
Review: Season One and two got you hooked and season Three left you yerning for more. Season Four has arrived. If you notice in the music intro, the snipet in the montage of the World Trade Center buildings is now gone. Out of respect for the people of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001. A mention of the tragedy is made in the first episode of this season. Tony is still wanting for his ducks to return. Tony Soprano is still a bad son of a gun. Abusive to his bartender for showing concern. His wife is pressuring him for more money. He then pressures his crime-organization for more money. The thing is Tony has loads of cash hidden in a secret concrete safe near the main house. His family doesn't even know about it. He has a secret safe outside too. Now the daughter has to see a psychiatrist. The first Soprano trial begins after 16 years. Disagreements get serious between the Italians and the Indians. Tony Jr. becomes worse in behavior. Tony Sr. gets involved in horse-racing wagering and of course more affairs with women. Dirt hits the fan for Tony. It's the wrath of Tony's wife. Linda Lavin appears in episode #41, Richard Romanus and Joyce Van Patten are in episode #42. Episodes contain profane language, sexual situations, nudity, graphic violence, blood and gore. Adults Only! There is an "Easter Egg" on Disc 2. Press in the down direction of awards and nominations. "HBO VIDEO" logo appears, click on it for a Soprano promo. Summary: NOT ANOTHER ONE!!
Review: I HAVE NOT YET BEEN ABLE TO SIT THROUGH AN ENTIRE EPISODE. ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS IS A GOOD SHOW SHOULD BE LOCKED UP. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. THIS SHOW HAS ALWAYS SUCKED AND ALWAYS WILL. JACKASS IS THE BEST SHOW EVER. NOT SOPRANOS. JAMES GANDOLFINIS ACTING, MAKES ME FEEL LIKE DANCING ON A CHEESE GRATER. THIS SUX.

Summary: When can they stop eating!!!
Review: First, make no mistake; this is the show that could have just been the greatest TV series of all time if it were stopped at the end of the second season. On the other hand, it could also have been one of the great if it only extended to the third season. But now, by the end of the fourth season and with the announcement of the fifth season, it has stepped into a territory in which the distinction between good and bad becomes blurred.

As tragic as this might sound, it seems that all the originally great TV series just cannot escape the Bermuda of "not saying goodbye". To name a few, "The X-Files", "Friends", "90210" even the early shows like "The Growing Pains", are all perfect examples where the contents of the storyline get poorer and unconnected over time, where everybody ends up sleeping with everybody so the show can get through the day.

During the first two seasons, I could hardly notice dining scenes because I was so attached to the story and merely paid any attention to side effects. But as I was watching the fourth season, it really began to annoy me to see four, five, six or even more major scenes per episode involving eating meals. It is simply too much. Besides, the reason for me to notice this was, as some other reviewers pointed out, that the story has gotten poorly plotted. Random things happen for no reason and are completely unconnected whatsoever. By now, I really could not imagine what they would do for the fifth season, or even the sixth. Somehow, it seems the creators have just forgotten that starting is human, and concluding is divine.

Summary: Greatest Show Just Plain Brilliant
Review: I still don't understand people who don't like the 4th seaon of the Sopranos. They completely miss the whole point of the show and that is we are watching a show about a mobster and his family and friends. Do you think in the real mob it is constant whacking and shooting, no they have real problems and real issues, hence Tony seeing Dr. Melfi. That is the brilliance of the show we get to see the innner workings of the mob even if it be just sitting down for Sunday dinner. The fourth season had some great performances and the setup for the next two season's is great. Especially with the future of Christopher and his rising stock that could be a disaster down the road. A great season and I can't wait till season 5 I am sure it won't dissapoint it hasn't yet for me.

Summary: Tony has fidelity problems with both of his families
Review: While watching the fourth season of "The Sopranos" it occurred to me that one of the defining moments in the history of the series was when Dr. Malfi was attacked and we waited for her to break down and tell Tony so that her assailant would disappear. But she refuses to do it, even though it would be so easy to do. All throughout the fourth season of "The Sopranos" there are several things that we are convinced that are going to happen that do not happen. Of course, the other broad clue that this was going to become a key element of the show was when Ralph made it all the way through the third season. We should have known that his ticket getting punched was going to be a surprise, even if it was a long anticipated event.

The original tagline of the HBO series was that if one family did not get him, the other one would, and that is especially true in the fourth season, although in different ways from the first. The bonds of fidelity are tested in these episodes as the decision to promote Ralph instead of whacking him creates cracks in the Soprano family that are exploited by both outsider and, rather surprisingly, insiders as well. As Tony makes a concerted effort to bond with Christopher as his true blood heir, Christopher's relationship with Adriana is tested as well. Meanwhile, with Meadow away at college and Anthony, Jr. off doing whatever, Carmella has a lot more time to think about things...and people, while Tony actually stops going to see his shrink (too soon, of course, as it turns out).

The open-ended format of "The Sopranos" is clearly the approach that the series is taking. If you are expecting everything from the third season that you wanted to see wrapped up handled during this one, you are going to be disappointed. One of the reasons this was such a strong season was that they kept throwing new items into the mix, and even with the bombshell dropped in the final episode you can really have no expectations for what will happen in the fifth season, set to premier Sunday, March 7th, 2004. The fourth season was not particularly bloody, with only seven bodies, but a couple were fairly significant and there were also a couple of significant animals that you could add to the body count if you wanted to. I have to admit that I did not think the show was that great when I finally got around to watching the first season (what series could actually meet such heightened expectations), but overall this is a superb series that manages to avoid expectations.

Summary: Love Em!
Review: This show is the greatest drama available for adults. It's smart, sexy, and scintillating. I also recommend the "New Sex Now" and "Goddess Worship" videos to anyone who enjoys this show because they are also very exciting material for adults.

Summary: The Rise and Fall of Tony Soprano continues its way
Review: Tony Soprano is almost a Shakespearean tragic hero. His meteoric rise through the first season has been matched by a slow descent. Through the fourth season, we continue to see this, as those who Tony relied upon (in business, or emotionally, or otherwise) fall away through death, or abandonment (by Tony or the other person).

This DVD set contains the 13 episodes of the fourth season, together with commentary from writers, actors, and David Chase. Unfortunately, only a few of the episodes have such commentary, and the choice of episodes is open to question (episode 4-11, with Tony's dreams, needs interpretation from an authoritative source). The "trailers" at the beginning and end of each episode are also included (i.e., "Previously on the Sopranos", etc.)

All of the regular actors shine, and the bit players are, as always, very well cast.

The quality of most of the episodes is high, perhaps higher than any but the first season. But as the number of planned seasons has gone from four, to five, and now to six, I wonder if the purity of David Chase's vision has not been invaded by fluff. Well, we won't know until the series ends, I suppose.

Highly recommended.

Summary: What's not to like in This Thing of Ours???
Review: The Sopranos is consistently a good show. Even in their worst season, they are better than 90% of what else is on television. Owning this series is definitely a good move so you can watch Tony and the boys at Bada Bing whenever the mood strikes you.

The demise of Ralphie is as satisfying as they come. Truly. As a viewer, we've wanted this since he killed the sweet little misguided stripper. And Tony lets us have it.

Carmella and Furio's attraction has us on the edge of our seats--much better than when she and the handy man were interested. And the joke about Johnny Sack's wife and the consequences that follow is wonderfully played.

They even work in the economy here... Apparently the mobsters are affected by the dip in the economy just like us poor schlepps?? Cool. The relationship between Janice and Bobby is excellent. Janice still has it; she works that situation over like a shabby piano.

Tony's new mistress, Valentina, and the storyline surrounding that was genius. The moral quandry for Tony--and what constitutes sex--was smartly played out here.

I admit I was puzzled by the episode with the dinner at Meadow's apartment. She and her mother come to verbal blows over a novel and whether or not it implied homosexuality. I was confused as to why Carmella was so worked up. there was a bigger issue and I am afraid I missed it.

Otherwise, this is a still a good season. Some complained it was not as good as others. Perhaps, but what are you watching that's BETTER?? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Summary: This show rocks season after season
Review: The cast is awesome; plot lines wild and wicked. This is THE show. If you miss it, you're grief stricken. This is the freshest, most brutally honest show on television. Ground breaking and one of the only reasons to have HBO--the others being Six Feet Under and Sex in the City. If you miss one second, you'll be sorry.
