Summary: Some good stuff!
Review: This review is not specifically for the first and second seasons of As Time Goes By. They are overall general thoughts to the entire running time of this amazing British series.
Before I begin, let me tell you that I am a female first year college student. I am telling you this because I always like to know about the people who write these reviews and I want to you all to feel impressed because I absolutely love this show. Most people think it's weird that I love Judi Dench and old movies, but anyway back to my review.
There are so many things about this series that makes it one of the best ever. First is British comedy. Totally much better than American humor. Oh, my gosh, it's hysterical. And this goes right into the actors in As Time Goes By. Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer are just plain wonderful together. The way they play off each other is totally amazing. Another awesome thing is their wonderful romance. Awwwww...just to think. Does that actually happen in real life? Meeting someone, falling in love and then not seeing them for ever and then seeing them again and getting married. Wow. Geoffrey's character mostly comes off as this rough, non caring dude. But, holy cow... he's not. My favorite scene is when Jean and Lionel are discussing the possibility of a TV show about their life. Jean starts describing the scene and asks how this second leftenant (or soldier works too) felt when he met her. And Lionel says, "I saw you and I stopped breathing. I really did." OH MY GOSH!!! If that is not the most romantic line ever invented, I don't know what is. And he pulls it off wonderfully. But, then of course his next line is totally British dry humour. Fun stuff. And Judi Dench is just, I don't know. I'm going to borrow a quote from somebody else who wrote a review about Mrs. Brown--
"I do not think that my knowledge of English language will allow me to fully describe superb talent of Judi Dench, which by all means is unmatched by anyone alive today." This pretty much says it all. Everything about her: comdey (even physical comedy), the way she delivers a line, facial expressions and the love she portrays for the man she acts opposite of. It all just knocks the socks off me.
So, yeah this is getting long. Just a few more things- Allistor is freaking annoying sometimes, but he always manages to make me laugh. And Lionel's father and step-mother crack me up. Rock on!!!
I could watch this entire series straight through if I could. It makes me feel so good. It makes me laugh so much and I always find myself wishing I could find someone who loves me like Jean and Lionel love each other. I'm getting sentimental here, sorry. So, if you have never seen As Time Goes By before, you need to.
All I can say is As Time Goes By rocks!!!
