Summary: It was the best of times...
Review: It is true that this season is far darker, as a whole, than any other period in the run of the show. More, the series does seem to flounder somewhat, as if searching for a direction.

My contention, however, is that this foundering is exactly the point that the creators were trying to make. Each season of Buffy has revolved around a particular theme (generally tied in with the period of life the characters are going through). The theme for this season was described by the creators as "Oh, grow up." The Scooby gang has put High School far behind them and now need to forge their path ahead into adulthood. The sense of a lack of focus at this time is probably familiar to the vast majority of us who have made it past our mid-twenties. In short, the Scoobies need to figure out what they want to be when they grow up. This is not always fun to watch, but it arguably does more to develop the characters than any other situation the gang has faced.

One note: the amazing musical episode, 'Once More, With Feeling' was only aired once in its entirety (it ran over by 8 minutes in the inital airing and only the edited version has been shown since). This DVD marks the first time that people who missed the 11/6/01 airing will be able to see the whole episode.

I hate to give away plot points, so I won't go into specifics. However, the final four episodes of the season are among the most disturbing of any show I've ever watched. To fully appreciate this, you should have seen the five preceding seasons, and I heartily recommend that you do. The final two episodes, in particular, are amazing. They were shown back-to-back when they first aired, and this is a good way to watch them. Without giving anything away, let me say that something happens near the middle of these two hours that brought literal cheers to my household. One of those moments that makes the darkness of the preceeding hours more worthwhile.

In summary, while this may not always be the most pleasant season of Buffy to watch, it is one of the most important. If you enjoy the tearjerker episodes, you should be quite happy with many of these. But through it all the humor is never completely lost, and when the dust settles we are left with a feeling of hope for the future of these amazing characters.

Summary: Is there such a thing as five stars bad?
Review: So much happens in season 6 of BtVS that there is a wide variation of opinions about this season. While I agree with some that this season had the greatest number of dud episodes of any Buffy season, I still give it a five star ranking. The first nine episodes and the last six are as good as anything they ever did on the show. If you just skip the seven in between, you'll think you're watching the greatest tv ever. But wait, you are watching the best tv ever. Even with the "bad" episodes in the middle of season 6, BtVS still rates five stars compared to anything else ever produced for tv. Buying this set is a no-brainer.

Summary: Commentary
Review: I wish the cast members could do the Commentary. I like hearing it still with the director and writers and stuff i would like it alot better. I like it when they show outtakes because it be them messing up or playing around in front of the camera. It gives you information about what they are really like. And when I see the behind the scenes stuff, like the featuretts, Sarah Michelle Gellar a.k.a Buffy is never talking about her chracter or any of the other chracters.I wish it was more behind the scenes stuff and more stuff that happened in the episode that they didn't show on tv.

Summary: Wow
Review: This is my favorite season of Buffy. It's romantic, and sad, and actiony and a little bit spooky. And Willow is so yummy in this one. The ending episodes are so well done. I never thought they could top the season 5 ending, but they did, by doing something so completely different. Amazing!

Summary: TwentySomethings in Sunnydale - A Dark, Erotic Time
Review: Every reviewer and most BTVS fans hate Season 6. I loved it. I thought it showed the many choices we have in our 20s - to delve into the dark side of erotica, to dabble in substances that take us on flights of fancy, to turn a blind eye rather than dealing with our daily drag of a life. The writing and acting here is superb as always. Ok, I could do without Dawn whining and I missed Giles terribly. But as Joss said, this was the "Oh Grow Up!" year, and everyone did. I highly recommended purchasing this season. It is worth a second look.

Summary: The Next One...
Review: I buy them all. The writing has always been excellent... Some of the story lines were just stupid this season. Willow's addiction, Xander leaving Anya at the alter, the geek triumverate... Buffy and Spike having graphic sex. And I am a big fan of Spike. LOVE Spike. That was just out of character for her.
Very night time soap opera this seaon. But the highlights were there too. Once more with feeling (the singing episode) - even with its lame ending, the music was very catchy. The acting was great. The characters were all there (though Giles was missed after his 6 episodes - his final episode where they all lose their memory due to one of Willow's spells is one of the best of the season). Dawn is less annoying in this season than in the 5th.
It felt like the writers were trying to hit the audience over the head with their true to life comparisons. There was a lot of addiction and escapism (and heck, crime - Dawn and Shoplifting, Willow and her homicide) for the characters in this season. The characters had never really crossed the line like that really. Yet all is forgiven. A lot of that - addiction and escapism is natural for people in their early 20s. Problems are more personal and more complicated. But a lot of the story lines were too over the top for the characters.
It works though... If you love the show. And the 7th season found it's footing again - though somewhat rocky.
It looks as though there are extras that will make the DVDs worth buying plus there needs to be continuity to my collection. The worst season in the series - by far - and yet, still - It was one of the best shows on television. Even that year.

Also recommended for smart/interesting writing: West Wing (TV), Angel (TV), CSI (TV), Boondock Saints (Movie), The Fifth Element (Movie)

Summary: Season 6 was "ok"
Review: It wasn't neccessarily the worst season. No that fate would fall to the final season, season 7. This season had alot of good ideas and themes, some of them weren't executed in the best way(changing Willow's obsession for power into a drug metaphor for instance). But its a very enjoyable season. It has the best episode in the entire series,Once More With Feeling. The musical episode. Plus other good eps in the season are Bargaining part 1,Afterlife,Life Serial,Tabula Rasa,Dead Things,Normal Again,Entropy,Seeing Red,and Villains.

Summary: One of The Best Seasons.
Review: Season 6 of Buffy is awesome and has lots of great episodes and I loved the relationship between Buffy and Spike, well it started off really hot but I hated it when Spike got obsessed and took things to far but all in all a good season and one of the best but I can't rate it a 5 because of how the twisted the Buffy and Spike relationship got but even so I can't wait to get the season 6 box set!
