Summary: nice funny series , worst packing ever
Review: This is a funny show, But it is very raunchy and not for the squemish or kids. I am very dispointed in the dvd though it is got a grainy, and horrbile transfer and the season pilot is almost unwathable because of this HBO you charge enough money for this set you could atleat give us a non grainy and clear transfer that is dvd quality, Disney restored Snow White and Dumbo even to crisp and clear picture and they are decades old this is a new show. The packing is also awful it smuges if you even touch it at all and the cover came off in one day. The discs were aslso near impossible to remove it took two people and one disc got smuded and scratched before it was even removed. The plus is the shows are funny and I already watched 9 of the 12 episodes in a day saving the other three for a rainy day. SArah Jessica PArker is Radiant here and it proves she is one of the funniest and most underapreciated actress's in comedy today. I would not even buy the dvd set if I had it to do again I would buy crummy vhs the picture would be about the same without all the other problems I have had with thia set. Also If you have been watching the show reccently please relaize this season a lot raunchier and vulgar then the current one so if you are easily offended don't buy this. The deducted star is due to dvd prblems not the show it would earn a five.

Summary: I love this show
Review: I only buy DVDs I can watch over and over and these episodes are definitely shows I can watch over and over. I'm a newcomer to Sex and the City so to see the whole development of the "Big" situation helped me understand this current season. If you are a fan I recommend this set.

Summary: The start of something Big...
Review: The Sex and the City-The Complete First Season is a great item for those who don't have cable TV (unlike me). I get HBO just to watch these shows. Most of the year I don't have HBO, but when June comes, I rush to get it. I have all of the first, second, and third season on tape, but this is a great gift idea for friends. I will probably buy this for one of my family and friends for birthdays or holidays (just to get them as addicted as I am). The great thing about this show is that every woman can see a little bit of herself in every one of the characters. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is the character I most relate to because of her fashion sense and her personality (very similar to mine). Samantha (Kim Catrall) is the woman that most women vilify, but wish they were like. She is so bold, daring and downright outrageous. There is a little Samantha in everyone. Miranda is the workaholic of the bunch who seeks perfection in everyone and everything. She is bold like Samantha, but in a different way. Charlotte is the one who you find endearing. Her search for her Prince Charming with a Madison Avenue job and Park Avenue apartment is something to watch. She goes through so many frogs, it is hilarious to watch.

This is the season that all of the newer fans must see. The first season gives insight into each of the four main characters (it relies more on the book (written by Candace Bushnell-a great read) in its descriptions of the characters ). It includes the beginning of the relationship of Carrie & Mr. Big and the first break-up (to be followed in the next few seasons by many more). It also includes the many misadventures of Miranda, which makes this season all the funnier. Samantha is at her vampiest. Charlotte is not as prudish and judgemental in this season (something to see). It may not be the best season of the show (which is season 3), but remember there would not be a show without this season.

This show has all of the elements that keep you tuning in. This is a must buy for fans of the later seasons. Buy it!!!

Summary: Great Series-- Horrible DVD transfer
Review: While I agree with the other reviews that the content is superb, I could only give the set 3 stars because of its terrible transfer to DVD. The quality was so bad (for DVD) as to be distracting. This is unforgivable for a well known, well financed outfit like HBO. This isn't Goodtimes video!

Summary: Sex and The City, First Season
Review: I really enjoyed this DVD set. I am an avid Sex and the City Watcher. I didn't start watching it until their 3rd Season, so I missed out on the beginning episodes. I like seeing the characters in the beginning. Seeing how they have changed from then to now. I bought the 2nd Season also.

Summary: Lipstick Vogue: What Women Really Want
Review: At last! After one failed mariage, a dozen bad relationships and countless ineffectual dates I have been afforded the age old secret that for so long alluded me. Yes, I TRULY NOW KNOW WHAT WOMEN WANT!! And all it took was to watch " Sex in the City - The First Season " to grant me this incredible knowledge. Imagine the heartbreak, to say nothing of the expense of flowers, I could have saved by catching this HBO series much earlier in life. Well, we live and ( hopefully ) learn!

Alright, I'll be the first to confess that the above paragraph, while written tongue-in-cheek, does perhaps hold a hint of truth to it as well. But you'll have to let me explain why. After sitting through both discs of this ( not so ) groundbreaking HBO series I've just a couple of thoughts in mind. The first one being that while I enjoyed the show very much it also left me a vague, somewhat empty feeling inside. Don't misunderstand me, I like watching four attractive female leads ( and heaven forbid they shouldn't be attractive! ) in a cosmopolitan setting, with cute apts., cute clothes (and even cuter dates as well! ) but other than a little 'table talk' concerning sex ( and one or two 'steamy' scene's to keep it controversial! ) there was not much dialogue here that I found exactly mesmorizing. For the most part the women featured here, while successful in business, are in constant need of attention and reassurance. Again, while attractive, they simply aren't all that emotionally interesting! Samantha, played by the amazing Kim Cattrall, the one who 'sleeps around' the most, is without a doubt, because of her promiscuity, the most honest woman this show has to offer. While the others, at least in the first season, tend to eat, drink, talk and sleep "SEX" it is only Samantha who seems confident enough to live life by her own terms instead of merely complaining about the lack of men in their lives....or the lack of life in their men! It's been stated that men tend to think about sex at least once every twenty seconds....but if this series is any indication, than I suspect these women may actually have 'cornered the market' in that regard. Do female viewer's truly want another show that expounds the age old notion that all women do is whine and complain about men....and the virtues of shopping! Or are the creaters of this series, by writing characters that seem to be in a constant state of crisis concerning the opposite sex, simply pandering to women's worst instincts in attempting to keep viewer's tuned in.

I don't doubt for a moment that the issues presented on this show are, at once, important and honest. But unfortunately, by resorting to the same stereo-types that we've seen countless times before on the screen than I suspect that the 'meat' of these issues are being lost. And, sad to say, in the long run, it may inadvertenly sabotage the very show they've created. Again, it's obviously a very well put together program but , for the most part, it does have all the depth of an issue of Cosmopolitan magazine! Could it be that the producer's of " Sex and the City " want to have their cake and eat it to? Make no mistake, the creaters of this wonderful show are fully aware of what's marketable to women and it seems they've taken full advantage of their expertise in that area. To sell this program as 'ground-breaking' television by virtue of simply pushing the sex factor only proves how really purient ( to say nothing of being easily titillated! ) we as Americans still are . I guess, even after all these years, "SEX" really does sell!

In the end, while I look forward to the second season ( yes, I know I'm behind already! ) I must admit that I may be watching the series for all the wrong reasons. And while I'm aware that there may be real concerns that are being addressed here I simply find it rather difficult to get past what I consider this 'lipstick vogue' factor that the show relies heavily on in an effort to keep the program trendy and " hip ". I do like " Sex and the City " and no doubt men can learn some things from this program. But the real issue might just be " IS THIS WHAT WOMEN REALLY WANT? "

Summary: Where The Adventure Begins!
Review: I bought "Sex..." one and two at the same time, to catch up on all I'd missed previously. I'd never seen these episodes, having started watching during season 3, and I was curious about the history between Carrie and Big, as well as having a thirst for a new fix of this great HBO original program.............. I was surprised that the very first show (pilot) was pretty weak, but that is the ONLY episode I wasn't crazy about. Getting to know Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha from the start is great fun. As the first season goes on, we really get to know the four distinct and seperate characters with their common problem, finding a normal man in the Big Apple. ........... I really find this show very entertaining, and am very happy with my two "Sex..." sets. If you've never seen the show, or started late like I did, here's a chance to catch up on what you've missed. I'm sorry I didn't tape season three, but I'm wising up and taping all the shows now, new and repeat, when aired. ............ For the single lady who is searching for her prince, or for the married lady like me who has been lucky enough to find hers, at some point you'll relate to this show, or at the very least, you'll be entertained. Even if you have a different agenda, you'll STILL enjoy hanging out with these four friends. ........... For the men who are "Out There," although I can't speak about how they might view the series, I can assume that the average man most probably won't enjoy this as much as women do. Men are often unympathetic characters on the show. Yes, that's an understatement! ............ I think an open minded man might watch this to get a handle of what the opposite sex might be thinking or going through. Let's face facts though, most WON'T want to get in touch with their "feminine side." That said, the married woman will probably enjoy this as a solo viewing pleasure. However, I think that women who are single, will love the show, and feel like..."Hey, it's not me, it's YOU" toward their relationships, and about the whole single and dating experience in general. ............ Either way, every time you pop it in the VCR, it's a girls night out in the safety of your own home. Get yours and enjoy a well done vicarious thrill in the single world.

Summary: A must have for any Sex in the City fan!
Review: I thought that I had viewed at least every episode twice, but I bought this collection just in case (and for a girls night). What a surprise to find three shows that I had never seen before. The DVD doesn't offer a lot of extra material--just the original commercials and the original HBO Behind-the-Scenes show. Great fun to watch either by yourself or with friends.
