Summary: Straight Girls Love It Too!
Review: I have loved this series since it first came out. I haven't missed ONE episode and bought the set for my mother to watch. I'm a straight married woman, which from what I have seen, is a very up and coming QAF fan group!These folk are so real and funny! I find myself laughing out loud every few minutes during the shows. My "used-to-be" against gays hubby even has started watching this show with me and although he doesn't agree with everything he sees, he is beginning to accept gay lifestyles as a real love. Real men, real women who have the same kind of problems that straight people do. Along with a few others. I think this show does open some closed minds and if others would just give it a chance, they would absolutely LOVE it like I do. With three kids and one on the way, working full time and trying to keep a house, this show gives me that boost of laughter and emotional connection that I need each week. I can't wait until next season!

Summary: OUTSTANDING from beginning to end
Review: I signed up for the Showtime channel specifically for this series and I have yet to be dissapointed. I love all the characters. Brian is so deliciously nasty you have to love him and Justin is such a little cutie. Emmett is a riot all the time. He reminds me so much of a lot of my friends. Some people complain that he is a stereotypical sissy, but so many of my friends are just like him. He is fun and energetic, definitely what being Gay is all about. The show is sexy and smart. The writers and directors are right on the money with the storylines. Debbie is the perfect mother that every gay man wants and fears at the same time. Some of the episodes have made me roll with laughter and some have almost broke my heart. I can't wait for the second season to be released on DVD as well. Everyone Gay man in the world should own this series. Sure the sex is gratuitous sometimes, but hey we deserve to see some great Gay sex scenes on TV. The world of straight sex is pushed down our throats everyday in so many shows. It's time we got some equal screen time. For those negative ones that love to write nasty and bashing reviews of the show, I would ask you this: Are you actually Gay? If so lighten up and live a little. Queer As Folk is the screenplay of my life and so many others that I know. It's fun, engaging, moving and completely additive televison. Treat yourself to something different from anything else on TV.

Summary: Whata Camp
Review: So much has been said about this series, both rather far to the left and far to the right. Good grief, see if for what it is, a good old camp. Something fun to enjoy without digging so deeply into the why, whats and wherefores of it all. If one looks clearly enough, there is something everyone can identify with, even if briefly. I for one found the "whole expierence" entertaining. Nothing more, nothing less. It made me laugh, it made me clap, it made me scream, it made me sad, it made me cry, it even made me say "Uhg" at times. The bottom line, it is gay entertainment, not the best, not the worst but a heck of allot of fun, much like the ground breaking movie of its long ago time, "Some of My Best Friends Are." It all depends on your frame of mind. PS = It is the nearest thing to a combination of decent story line and decent porno flick.

Summary: "Queer As Folk" is "Real As ..."!
Review: I never watched 'Soap-Operas' because they weren't about me or my life. This series hits the nail-on-the-head! It could sink to some 'lower-depths' of gay-life,but I think we all get the picture.
"Emmett"(Peter Paige),does a wonderful job portraying the "Societal-STEREOTYPE" of a gay man, with no loss of dignity.
The writers are covering all the issues/bases,,,
This is a 'GREAT-SERIES'!

Summary: Trash, start to finish
Review: I am a gay man, and I have no idea why there was ever any hoopla about this show. I tried watching the entire season, and unlike my friends, I wasn't excited to see the next episode, because it kept getting worse and worse with every passing Sunday that the show aired. The show had no redeeming qualities about it for starters. The characters are what really kills the show. You have Brian, the all-around whore who pokes around with just about everyone who raises an eyebrow to him. You have Michael, the whiny queen who has nothing to do but show off the fact that he's dating a doctor and all their drama (the doctor, in real life is a total homophobe and hated doing the show anyway). You have Emmitt, the stereotypical queen who I did find humorous once in a while, but the episode with the HIV scare and him trying to try the straight lifestyle was beyond me. PLEASE! Out of all the characters, he was the biggest bottom of the group! You have Justin, the twinkie boy who learned the ropes from Brian and by the end of the series (and especially Season 2), became just as much of a whore that Brian is. You have the lesbian couple, who basically was added to the show as a trap - because many straight women loved the show, the girlfriends "treat" for their boyfriends to tolerate the show was the explicit lesbian sex scenes. And you have Ted, the internet porn addict who did have somewhat of a redeeming quality about him; he was crazy about the meth-addicted club kid and went out his way numerous times to save the kid from that kind of lifestyle and in the end, walked away empty handed. I kinda felt sorry for his noble efforts going to waste by something that's hard to reverse in somebody who's way up into the club/drug scene. And of course you have Michaels mother, who is the PFLAG fanatic, works at a gay diner, and she's somewhat of a decent character, but having such an accepting parent like her is a rare case. And her brother/Michaels uncle, who is basically a self pitying AIDS victim. I hated a lot about this show because it sugar-coats a lot of issues and focuses on the sex scenes for the most part. The characters are so bland and colorless that it just becomes pathetic after the first couple of episodes and the acting is poor at that. Basically every character tries to be perfect, most of them with high income jobs, some living in ritzy apartments, and very fashion and image conscious. I don't know about you, but I didn't see any main characters on this show that looked anything other than annorexic. For a show that boasts about gay pride, the writers know nothing about diversity. There are so many other groups of gay people out there: Bears (aka people that DO eat), Leather (though covered in a sex scene with Ted at one point, that wasn't anything), people with disabilities of one sort or another, and even though I'm totally against this, but they left out one key character that's involved with the gay community every day and there are tons of them - the married men that sneak around on their wives, hooking up in chatrooms, trying to find a quickie in a park, basically the people who commit a crime far greater than an openly gay couple breaking the sodomy laws. Personally, I see more of this type of person than I actually see openly gay people nowadays, since the internet is booming as of the past few years. Instead of the mindless drama that amounted to nothing, why didn't they focus on the actual craziness that happens in the gay community. Sure, Justin got bashed with a baseball bat at the end of the series (by an obvious closet case, who he had sex with at the beginning of the series), but there are more serious issues throughout the gay community they forgot to cover, other than one character stressing out and wanting to cut his wrist because he can't find anything to match his new Abercrombie shirt. A couple things to come to mind are (1) stalking is one serious thing in the gay community and it happens to everyone at least once, some situations far more severe than others (2) abusive lovers - the obvious couples are all happy and everything is hunky dory, but there are MANY gay people stuck in a situation where they allow their lover to beat them to a pulp, as with many females deal with in an abusive marriage. There's just so much the directors left out, and from what I got to see of Season 2, it didn't help any more, as the stupidity continued. Basically it all boils down to a bunch of pretty boys with a token lesbian couple and a token gay friendly mom thrown into the storyline, and it's all about the club life, drugs, endless sex and nothing more. They basically make the gay lifestyle out to be nothing more than a fairy tale, and that's exactly how it looks on this DVD collection. I really have nothing good to say about this series and wish I could give it a zero star rating.

Review: This show has definitely brought into my life a lot of entertainment and new emotions. It is absolutely brilliant and most importantly, different. I really love it and I am the number one fan! I have the complete first season and have pre-ordered the second season (not available yet). Can't wait for the third season to start!

Summary: ODDLY ENOUGH THIS IS A SEXY AND MESMERIZING SERIES.
Review: I don't know why I am so captured by this series, but the characters are very appealing and even Brian Kinney, who is self absorbed, arrogant and highly sexual makes me want to know him better. The actor who plays him, Gale Harold, is extremely attractive. The relationships that form between the main friends has so many twists and their lives and interactions are at times shocking and visceral. It is almost like watching a train wreck and not being able to tear yourself away. I find it interesting that this series especially appeals to heterosexual women such as myself. Even though the characters are gay they are still so appealing. There are poignant moments and campy moments and even many moments that you can find in your own life. Sharon Gless plays the PFLAG waving mama with such pizazz. In fact most of the characters are endearing but all with their own unique flaws which only make them more believable. I highly recommend this series but only to open minded adults.

Summary: A Gay Soap Opera with a Sexy Twist
Review: I have to admit, I love the series. I just love gay men. It is, at times, corny and a little simplified, but...it is a SOAP OPERA! Similar to the YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and other daytime American soaps, it is a show filled with pretty gay boys and lots of lust and sex thrown in. Sometimes there is some great dialogue and other times not. But, seriously folks, it is fun, entertaining, and filled with "eye candy" for an open minded straight and/or gay audience to enjoy. I bought it because it is breaking the mold of "straight" entertainment that gives you a different perceptive on life in our ever-changing world. This is the time to be light-hearted and open-minded. So, stop hesitating and just BUY IT!

Summary: Overcomes numerous obstacles
Review: There were alot of obstacles in the way of this series being good, not least the prissiness of US television. In the end, while it could have been better, perhaps, it turned out pretty well, and has certainly managed in the first season to touch on many of the issues of contemporary gay life. The first few episodes lead one to believe that the show will focus on the "fast lane" club-gays, but ultimately each of the characters gets side-tracked into other areas of gay life, so that by the end of the series there are at least glimpses of other aspects of the community. Since I'm not a Showtime subscribers, I don't know anything about the second season yet, but I hope this trend to a more diversified picture of gay life will continue.
