Summary: Good... but a little disappointing
Review: It is hard to say that I do not like these DVDs because they do have beautiful presentations of the films and lots of extras. However, I expected a little more for box office hits like these, like a commentary by Spielburg for starters. I was hoping to get more insight on the production of these films. Another thing that disappointed me was that many of the extras are duplicated on both discs. Both discs contain the same trailers for all three films. The Jurassic Park III trailer is only a short teaser and shows very little of anything. Also several of the extras seem more geared for children who like dinosaurs, not adults who want to learn more about the film.

Summary: DTS cannot be beat.
Review: It's been 7 months now since this boxset has been released,and still no DTS version?I said i would hold out until there was one,and i'm still waiting.I don't want to buy 2 seperate discs,i want the whole deal.This is the sound standard that Spielberg helped invent(was first used in Jurassic Park),and it's far superior than DD5.1.The sound channels are seperated more effectively,the dialogue is clearer,the overall audio is much more powerful,and the bass is more subtle.I came to this realization by testing both versions at the same volume,and there was an signifigant difference with both films with regards to the audio.Of course the image quality is immaculate,but that should be a given.So once again MR.Spielberg if you can find some spare time in your busy schedule,i ask you to release a boxset with DTS audio,and i'll fork over my semi-hardearned duckets.Thank You,and God Save The Queen.Oh yeah,if you haven't already figured it out,i think both films are great(i lean more towards Lost World),and they are definite purchases.The Raptor screams are still chilling.

Summary: No false advertising
Review: To the reviewer who said it's "false advertising" and that the DVDs don't have the movie trailers, here's how to find them: on the main menu, select "bonus features". The list of bonus features that comes up doesn't list the trailers, but if you'll look at the bottom of the list, you'll see a red arrow pointing to the right, indicating that there's another list of more features. Click on the arrow, and you'll find the option to view the trailers for all 3 Jurassic Park movies.

Summary: Excellent DVD!
Review: I have long been a fan of Steven Spielberg, and this Jurassic Park and Lost World DVD collection do not disappoint. For pure cinematic thrills, these two movies define the state-of-the-art of the modern-day blockbuster. I'm sure that most readers know the premise of the films, so I won't go into that. What I will say, however, is that both of these DVD's are excellent. The video and audio quality is superb, and the extra features offer much added insight into the films. In addition to the now-obligatory making-of featurettes (on both discs), there are deleted scenes, dinosaur facts, cast information, and many photographs and storyboards. Any Speilberg fan will undoubtedly enjoy this collection.

Summary: False advertising
Review: Two good films. Great discs with extras, but.... false advertising. Both of my discs claim the trailers for the 3 films are on the discs. They are not. If they are only on the 4 disc set & not the 2 disc set which the boxes claim. That is false advertising. I like to watch the trailers & this disappointed me.

Summary: Woo Hoo!
Review: Awesome! "Jurassic Park" is still my favorite movie of all time. With special effects that were unseen at that time bringing the dinosuars to life was unbelievable. Had great "edge-of-your-seat" action that carried you throught the whole movie. Jeff Goldblum offers up some comedy relief at just the right moment. This is a definite classic and keeper for all-time."The Lost World" was just as stunning visually, but not quite as good with the story or the characters as the first one. I had read the book first and wished Spielberg would've kept the ending and one other raptor scene in the movie (this is why Crichton refused to take part in the movie). It would've been cool seeing those scenes, but still, the movie is remarkable. The collection also has behind the scenes stuff and a complete encyclopedia of each dinosaur. Very nice for those who have children or anyone who wants any info about dinosaurs. And it's in fullscreen which is much better than the widesreen that most DVD's seem to prefer. I had watched "Jurassic Park" over 100 times and couldn't believe the difference in picture and in sound that the DVD gives you. Awesome. Get this collection.

Summary: Jurassic Park and The Lost World
Review: The 2-pack of "Jurasic Park" and the sequel "The Lost World" are packaged together for the first time on DVD in this collectors edition. Both films have a one hour "making of" documentary, (though Jurassic's is better), storyboards and trailers. The "Jurassic" DVD has a video taped story conference with Spielberg and the creature creators and visual effects guys, it's pretty interesting. The only real disappointment is the absence of a commentary. Considering the amount of talent behind the scenes, it's strange that someone like Stan Winston or even someone from ILM wasn't approached to do something. The films themselves are pure popcorn. "Jurassic Park" benefits from being the first film but it also carries a friendlier vibe than the mega dark "The Lost World". I rate "Jurassic Park" a 4STAR film and "The Lost World" a 2STAR film, so I rated the box set on the average. "Jurassic Park" has the energy and imagination like your first trip to Disneyland, in fact the film's park of the title even resembles Disneyland. The high spirit and adventure is very entertaining, and there is a now famous T-REX debut which is still extremely effective. "The Lost World" is not as effective, in fact it's a bit of a disappointment. The problem with "The Lost World" is lack of focus on ANY character who is non-CGI. Jeff Goldblum is a strong actor but his Ian Malcolm this time is haggard and even boring when in the first film he was full of zest and great one-liners. However, "TLW" has an excitining final ten minutes that ALMOST save the film, but it's too little too late. If you are a fan of both of the films then the 2-pack is a wise purchase, however if you prefer "Jurassic" to "Lost World" I would omit the sequel from your purchase.

Summary: One good movie, One so-so movie, and a sprinkle of extras
Review: First off, I bought this for the movies and included extras. It is an average purchase for collectors and fans. It is only partially what the studio ads say it is. This "Limited Collectors Edition Box Set" (LCEBS) sounds good, and that's all. Most of the extras that are pictured on the back of these DVD's do not actually appear on your TV. The laserdisc boxed set of Jurassic Park was THX certified, not this DVD set, and no DTS option either. (DTS editions are sold separate from the LCEBS.) Other reviews of this set mention how poor this set is. I would compare this set to a software product, "Not what we promise, but the mininum we can get away with." If you go to the web site, they have some of these "missing extras". For me, all materials in a LCEBS should be included on the DVDs and NO superfluous web links. In ten years, that web site won't even be running, but the DVD will. I hope this is the last boxed set that Universal does this to. I am unable think of better ways to kill interest in premium Universal DVD sets. This one sets a new low in boxed set standards.

Summary: worth having
Review: Obviously there are quite a few people who had problems with this DVD set, however I had no problem with any of the features. The video looks great and so does the audio, although I was surprised that it wasn't filmed in the extra wide 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but with my regular TV that was alright. Granted, neither movie is high on plot, but everybody knows that about these movies. These are great flicks to crank up the stereo and scare your neighbors with, which is essentialy what they were made for to begin with, fun, fast and loud entertainment. I wish they had a little more revealing trailer for the next movie, but they probably don't have much done. It would have been better if they had more deleted scenes or bloopers, but I think these are still worth owning.

Summary: Buy it for the films: there's not much else special.
Review: Lame for a DVD, especially a "Collection" boxed set. The ILM and Dinosaur bonus material? STILLS! Okay there are the two standard "How we made the movie" documentaries that have been on TLC, Discovery etc. and if you haven't seen them they are nice to be included but rather expected. BUT what is totally stunning to be absent is any sort of Voice-over commentary for either movie. Where's somebody giving commentary on how the scenes were shot, logistics etc. that are the one unique aspect of DVD? None here. For two films as viually complex as these that's inexcusable. So everybody concerned was too busy to spare two hours to do commentary? Excuse us. Typical perfect DVD image but otherwise just your standard let's make another buck effort. Just the tape in a different format. Dissappointing.
