Summary: Remember-widescreen is always better
Review: Now that I have this set, I can easily wait for Star wars to be released on DVD. In fact, I have always liked back to the future Better.
People think that the Wide screen version is just full screen with black bars. that is true, but that is the way it was seen in the theater. All three movies were originally shot in full screen format, except for the Special effects shots. and they had to be cropped for the theatrical release, except for the special effects shots
For Example, on the full screen video, when Marty Jr. is taking pepporoni off his pizza, you can't see his whole face, but in the widescreen version you can. The widescreen version is the version Robert Zemeckis intended, and it is the original theatrical ratio. I have my corrected discs, and the misframing issue was that the screen was improperly centered. it was NOT a black-barred "pan and scan"
remember: Wide Screen is always better.

Summary: One of the greatest films of all time
Review: This is intelligent storytelling with good actors. One of my absolute favorites. The DVD also has plenty of informative features. The only strange is that every episode has a short and a long behind the camera documentation, and the most of the short doc is repeated in the long one. OK com'on, where can I become a hooverboard?

Summary: First film = good, 2nd = fair, 3rd = bad
Review: The first film was fun because of its' inventiveness but the second film was a wild brilliant ride but it was darker and disturbing. By the the third film, you were bored with the whole idea and it was just too silly to waste any time watching. Well, what the heck, watch them all in sequence but be sure your kids are older because the 2nd film is too upsetting for smaller kids.

Summary: Takes me back in time!....
Review: OK...so I was 10 when BTTF1 was released, and then 14 and 15 for the next to movies...but man!...does this bring back memories. I own the VHS tapes for every single BTTF movie, but have been waiting long for the DVD release. I got it yesterday as a gift, and already went through all features and movies for BTTF 1 and 3. It's just great to have....as Marty McFly says at the end of BTTF1: "...sight for sore eyes". Now I don't have to worry about my tapes deteriorating due to serious playback...and can retire to the Collectibles cabinet. Get the movies, get the memorabilia, get in with it!

Summary: Nice collection.
Review: All 3 movies at a very nice price. The only thing that really annoyed me was there weren't more special features to view. There are alot listed, but they are very short. I've also read some things about the widescreen format being wrong. If it is, I sure didn't notice a difference. I have recently watched the VHS version and to me it seems like your getting more picture than the VHS version. I didn't buy this because it was widescreen, I bought it because I really enjoy all 3 of these movies. And is rating it lower gonna effect Universal? Not here at least, but I do think more material should have been added to these DVD's. But if you really liked the movies, I would recommend this to anyone, especially becuase the price is right.

Summary: About Time
Review: It is about time this time traveling trilogy was released. This is a great adventure comedy for the whole family. It is among the top of the 80's teenage adventure movies. Who could forget the characters of this movie; the crazy adults (i.e. mad scientists and parents), school bullies, high school hotties, and the path traveled so the average guy will end up with the girl of his dreams. In short, this is a film for you if you like the genre of 80's teen flicks.

Summary: Good Movie series, but lousy formatting!
Review: The movies are great but don't buy this DVD set. They screwed up royally on formatting the 2nd and 3rd discs. They cut off the sides and the top and bottom (which you would normally see, not just the black bars). If you are from Canada you get a huge run around on how to return the DVD's and they will charge you for shipping to them despite the fact that it is their fault. Don't buy this DVD set, wait until they re-release it with the proper formatting.

Summary: This takes me back!
Review: I rode my bike to the movie theater 11 times in one summer to see this movie-does that tell you how old I am? I loved this movie as well as it's soundtrack, and watching it in widescreen with my surround sound system was just like it was in the theater all those years ago. The extra features are also marvelous for junkies like me.

Why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5? Because the 2nd movie was dissapointing, and the 3rd movie was downright horrifying! If I could have bought just the first movie, with all of the extras, on DVD I would have. I can't comment on the formatting problems on the last two movies that the others mentioned, because I haven't watched them-I didn't buy this set for them.

All in all, I'm very pleased. Anyone who loved this movie when it came out should have this!

Summary: Time Flies When You're Having Fun..........
Review: This review refers to the Universal Complete Trilogy Widescreen Edition of "Back To The Future"........

I could go no less than 5 stars for this fun packed edition of this already classic set. I've been a big fan of "Back to the Future" and was thrilled to recieve my DVD package. The films are a great transfer, they look and sound magnificent. The pictures are clear and sharp in the widescreen(anamorphic),with excellent color as well.As for myself, I barely noticed that the specs may have been off. If those are important to you, you may want to read some of the other reviews here. The sound in 5.1 Dolby Surround(English and French) is all encompassing. There's enough "extras" to keep you busy all weekend!(great excuse not to do anything else) Included you will find, "The Making Of.." in three parts, one on each disc, there's some great question answer sessions from students at USC film school with Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale(you can listen to this throughout the films if you choose). You can also opt for the feature length commentary, see deleted scenes(that may answer some questions for you), wonderfully funny outtakes and music videos by Huey Lewis and ZZ Top. There is much more more, each disc has it's own "special features" to peruse. There are captions in English and subtitles in Spanish as well. If all the info on the discs is not enough there's also a booklet with some production notes that comes with it. The overall package is one of the best I've ever seen. THIS is one where the "special features" are really appreciated.

The "Back to the Future Trilogy" has everything that makes a film a classic. The stories have Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Romance,Thrills, and even some Western adventure. All of which will sweep you away to the past, the future, the present and back again. It's a story for the whole family to enjoy together.(There is some mild language and mild violence). The filming and special effects are incredible, and the score(Alan Silvestri) and soundtrack unforgettable. The story is one for the ages. For those who are new to the world here's a little background of the entire trilogy......

Marty McFly, is a 17 yr old high school student, who comes from a long line of "slackers".His friend,Doc Brown(Christopher Lloyd), an eccentric scientist has built a time machine, out of a DeLorean, and oops, Marty accidently takes a trip back to 1955 and runs into his own parents as high school students. He must find Doc as he is the only one who may be able to help Marty get "Back to the Future".The problem is that getting him back will take some time, and by running into his parents, he has messed with the "space-time continuim" and has threatened his very own existence. He must make things right before he can go back!

In part 2, Marty must travel 30 years ahead this time, to straighten his life out, which has been complicated by his nemisis,Biff(Thomas E. Wilson).Once again he is beset with the problem of history being rewritten due to his interference. He and Doc must find the exact moment on the time line that made life different for all around them. They travel several times through time and with the great camera work we get to see future Marty and past Marty in the same shot...It is important though, that Past Marty and Future Marty never meet! You will aslo see Old Biff meet Young Biff which is an amazing scene!

Then in part 3, travel back 100 years to the old west. Marty dons a spiffy cowboy outfit, and must go back and save Doc from disaster this time. The problem in this time era, is more than just the gunslingers, nothing's been invented yet to help them with parts they need to repair the time machine. Will they ever get back? Will life ever be normal again. You'll have a great TIME finding out!

Great acting including Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, and Mary Steenburgen add to the greatness of these films and superb direction and attention to every detail by Robert Zemeckis makes this a heck of a ride for all! Check out all the details in every era, it's amazing, and each time you watch you'll discover some new little nuance, you may not have caught before!

Have a little time on your hands?...This is a great package to add to your DVD collection....Have Fun....Laurie

Summary: Wide Screen DVDs replacement
Review: Those of you who UNFORTUNATELY purchased INCORRECTLY FRAMED widescreen version of DVD set, here is the phone number you HAVE TO CALL.

(888) 703-0010

When I called, a lady who showed TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RELUCTANCE in doing her job answered and AUTOMATICALLY started reading out a WRITTEN MEMO about Universal's awareness of the MESSED-UP DVDs. You leave your address and phone number, then they'll send you a PRE-PAID ENVELOPE for returning DVDs (BTTF part II and III). You send only disks to them, then you'll HAVE TO WAIT until "LATE MARCH to get the fixed version (finally!).

I don't understand why they need physical disks to be sent back. But whether you like it or not, that's how it works, and that's how Universal treats customers. Good luck! :-)

Those of you who FORTUNATELY haven't bought the DVD set yet: WAIT UNTIL APRIL!

-----

As of April 11, 2003, I finally received the replacement DVDs.
It's been more than three months since I originally bought them... Welcome back my disks! :-)

But this does NOT necessarily mean that all BTTF DVDs on the shelf are fixed version. I have no idea how you can confirm it.

Movies are great. No doubt.
