Rating: Summary: Premium price, but only full-screen production. Review: $150 list price, and it's not even widescreen?! I ordered the first three seasons, just assuming it had to be widescreen for that premium price. That's my only disappointment - sticking a 5-star show on a 3-star DVD format is a major let-down. Even though I only paid $75/season(shop around online - don't get ripped off), I expected a DVD with all the bells and whistles.
About the show - it just keeps getting better with each season. Believe me, if you are a sci-fi fan, it's worth suffering through the substandard DVD.
Rating: Summary: Packaging? What's up with that? Review: (I'm talking about the box and the way the dvds are etc...) Don't get me wrong, i love Farscape, and i bought the Season 1 and 2 box sets, but come on, the S #2 box set looks like it took 1 second to put together, nothing to it, the S #1 box set looks a whole lot better, is it me or what? The Dvd wraparound covers weren't even cut correctly to the dvd cases... Farscape is 5 out of 5 stars, but this packaging makes me have to lower the rating a star. My first response at looking at the box set was, "I'm disappointed", pay $90.00 and it looks this bad!
Rating: Summary: Ah the set to be had... Review: Ah if only I waited two more weeks... I could have had the whole season in a conveniant box. Well I'm one away from season 2 being complete I'm missing 2.4, it was OOS and will be in shortly when I placed the order for the whole season 2 in the cases... Oh well get it now while you can and look for the season 3 box set a few after it is complete... Or maybe I'll have to bother ADV for it also...FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE DATE SET FOR FARSCAPE:(tm) THE COMPLETE SEASON TWO DVD BOX SET RELEASE INCLUDES ENTIRE SECOND SEASON OF JIM HENSON TELEVISION'S AWARD-WINNING SCIENCE FICTION DRAMA HOUSTON, August 11, 2003-ADV Films has set a street date of October 28, 2003 for the release of Farscape: The Complete Season Two, including all 22 episodes of the second season of the Jim Henson Television, Hallmark Entertainment, and Nine Networks award-winning series. Rating: Summary: Love the show, hate the DVD production. Review: As a loyal SciFi fan, I believe Farscape to be among the best and the most imaginative shows to ever grace the screen and would give it 6 stars if I could. But the production of DVDs by ADV films of which I own both Farscape seasons, Andromeda & Beastmaster, leaves much to be desired (as usual). They are slow to release the shows in box set so they can milk the individual sets. The transfer is at times terrible. The packaging is as cheap as they come (compare that to Babylon5, Hercules, Xena or even Stargate's packaging and you'll see what I'm talking about.) No extras to speak of. And they want way too much for the individual DVDs and the box sets. I for one will not waste any more money on ADV film's slow, half hearted and less than adequate productions.
Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: Could they be any slower releasing these box sets? Farscape is one of the best sci-fi series ever put to television, but you probably already know that since you are on this page. My only complaint is they are taking forever to release these sets. At the time of this post, B5 has already released season 3. Star Trek released the entire Next Generation series in less than a year, what could possibly take so long to release this set?
Rating: Summary: Great series but 'extras' are pathetic Review: Everyone knows that the series is great, so I won't belabor that point. The first season collection had some great extras--I especially liked the Ben Browder/Claudia Black commentaries. This collection has only one commentary episode, and it was done by two technical people - no actors. The rest of the extras feature typed-up synopses of the actors' careers, not actual interviews, and the ever-present 'conceptual drawings'. Not even a screen-saver!
Rating: Summary: Great Sci-Fi Review: Farscape season 2 continues the fine tradition set in the first season. After finishing the season one cliffhanger when nearly everyone was left for dead the show continues with some very good and some excellent episodes in season 2. About the boxed set The set contains all 22 season two episodes divided in 5 sets of DVD's containing 4 or 5 episodes each. Some DVD's contain bonus features but these are merely comments and brief promotional videos and are a bit disappointing. The DVD's have a nice layout but a bit annoying is a wormhole sequence which is played at absurdly loud sound level everytime you select an episode. The set is nicely packaged but the quality of the package remains questionable since it is made out of paper. I own the season 1 and 2 and for now the package is not damaged but we will see about that when the show gets in the hands of some of my friends. About the show The story is about a pilot named John Chricton which during an experimental flight gets sucked in the wormhole and ends up on the other end of the galaxy. There he stumbles in the middle of a prison break and ends up with the escaped criminals on a living ship called Moya. In the second season we see further development in character relations between the crew. Some fight and tensions as no one gets along all that well. We see some romances develop and some deals get broken. Nobody is completely without flaws but somehow they all pull together in tough spots and get through them. My favorite episodes in second season are "The way we weren't" where we learn a little bit about Aeryn's and pilot's past and "Won't get fooled again" where Crichton wakes up on earth again. There is an excellent three part episode called "Liars, Guns and Money" when the crew of Moya decides to rob a bank to get enough money to buy D'argo's sun from slave traders. The best episode must be "Die Me, Dichotomy" which is the last in the season but I won't spoil it for you. Quality an conclusion The picture quality is very good as the show is presented in 16:9 wide screen. The sound and special effect remain to be top notch. The creature and prosthetics keep getting better and more elaborate. If you loved the first season you'll love the second even more. The boxed set is much better than buying all the volumes separately.
Rating: Summary: This should be remebered for years! Review: Farscape tells the story of John Crichton as he tries to survive in deep space, after a disasterous experiment rips him from Earth, sets him up with friends and foes, then sends him on his way to encounter numerous adventures. The story of Farscape is greater then almost any other science fiction series. The twists and the implications of what is to come creates an undeniable suspense, and brings each season to a thrilling climax. Although people first watching the series from the beginning will most likely disagree, Farscape also has fantastic characters. This quality comes from their evolution. John Crichton in the first season turns from a confused astronaught into a confident and heroic crusader. Other evolutions progress as well as each character bonds and unbonds after each event they come across. Fascinating developements and menacing villains also help the series along. What also makes the character far more intirgueing is that they can be touched. Things will happen to them and those things will have consequences, which makes the viewers care and worry for the characters. Some of the best acting on a science fiction show ever. Ben Browder portrays a goofy and sometimes terrified young man who then changes into the ultimate hero. He also portrays a man who can occasionally go insane. The preformances are rather unimpressive in the first few episodes, but that is mainly because for most of the actors, Farscape was their first big project. Considering that point, how the actors manage to develope their skills to a striking level is commendable. Like the acting, the directing does not really pick up until after the first few episodes, but from then on, it only gets better. The stories are so brilliantly synthesized and delivered that the directors become just as important as the writers. Buy the first and second series of Farscape. They are well done and worht watching. I espeacially can't wait to see the Farscape miniseries. Hopefully with only four hours, the writers will have been able to pull together something very speacial.
Rating: Summary: Very good show, very poor production house Review: First the show. Good stories with interesting characters. A friend got me hooked on it, then I got stationed in Japan. I bought the DVD's to catch up. ***** 5 stars. Onto the production value of the DVD's. Pretty interface, but no subtitles and cheesy extras. Really little more than the episodes themselves. *** 3 stars. Finally, the production house. They release a box set for every complete series they produce. Patient consumers have learned to wait for that set, staying away from more expensive individual DVD's. It must be effecting sales, because the press release comes out, "we will not release a box set," they say. Then, as always, the box set comes. This falls into the ENRON style business practice. ZERO stars. The final tally comes out to my rating. *** 3 stars.
Rating: Summary: Love the Series, but not for $130 a season. Review: I am a huge FarScape fan and in gearing up for the mini-series that's going to tie up the story arc that the Sci-Fi channel left hanging after season 4, I was going to come and buy all 4 seasons of the show to refresh my memory.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the price tags (not to mention that season 3 and 4 aren't available in boxed sets yet).
It was just a TV show (regardless of how awesome it was), and you can still see repeats on Sci-Fi, granted it's not always at convenient times. It's definately not worth $130 a season, especially with what I'm hearing about the special features being lacking.
I bought the first DVD from the first season and color me unimpressed. I'm sure Amazon is pricing based on manufacturer's suggestion - but yeesh, ADV, cut the fans a break. Not all sci-fi fans/geeks have a multibillion dollar corporation that they started out of their garage!
