Summary: AMAZING FROM START TO FINISH
Review: I just bought the season one box set and I could not stop watching! I finished it in 3 days. 24 is the most brilliant show to grace basic cable. It's come to the point that I will KILL to watch every episode of season 2. I'm sure you've heard this all before but Kiefer Sutherlan was just BAD AZZ! He played the role soooo well. Actually, the whole entire cast does a great job. I really liked Tony alot. That guy was cool. To sum it up, 24 is a groundbreaking series that will keep your attention for all 24 (18 actually) hours. If you haven't seen this show buy the DVD! The last episode is downright superb.

Summary: "24": Season One
Review: Catching "24" when it first aired on telvision was always a problem. Often times I would miss certain episodes and feel a little incomplete for enjoying a show I wasn't seeing all of. Luckily, the first season is on DVD (in record time, in comparison to other shows, i.e. X-Files, the Simpsons) and it's all there to watch and get addicted to again. Kiefer Sutherland plays government agent Jack Bauer who is put in charge of uncovering a plot to assassinate presidential candidate David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) sometime before the day is out. Unfortunately for Bauer, stopping this plot becomes more complicated when his own family is placed in danger. There are a lot of nifty little things to like about the show (including it's usage of split screen effects during key sequences, cliffhangers that make you want to see what happens next), and all of it is balanced out by strong performances from the cast, and some really shocking turnabouts that are dripping over with tension. By the time "24" reaches it's brutal and tragic season finale, you may be already waiting for season two...

Summary: About the packaging...
Review: I've commented elsewhere about the show itself, and I still believe it is amazing. But now that I've received the actual DVD set from Amazon.com (thanks for shipping it so promptly!), I can tell you about what you actually get. The picture and sound quality is very good, similar to other DVDs I own or have rented, and better than the original broadcasts. The "extras" are very thin - a very short commentary by Kiefer that is basically just an advertisement for the 1st season. He mentions the 2nd season but gives us no real information about it. The alternate ending is brief, starting from where Jack arrives at CTU and meets Kim. (In my view, it is much weaker than the ending they selected. Having a happy ending would have cheapened this show, would have been on a par with the vast majority of television shows that neatly and unrealistically wrap up everything. But that's just my view - watch it and decide for yourself.) The set also includes a commentary by one of the producers and co-creaters of the show, discussing why they shot two endings and why those the one they did. Interesting, but not essential. Completely missing from this DVD set are the "previously on 24" scenes that began each episode as it was broadcast. These scenes were nice, because they remind you of the major players and provide a context to help you enjoy the next episode. Also missing are the "next on 24" scenes that followed each episode when originally broadcast. The box sets for other TV shows (like the sopranos) include the "previously on" and "next on" scenes, so I was disappointed that they weren't included in the 24 DVD set. Aesthetically, the packaging is fine - attractive, colorful, includes the vital information (show credits and so forth). The box isn't as sturdy as some, but not flimsy either. In sum, your money gets you a very bare-bones package. But remember - you are getting 24 episodes---about 20 hours of programming---for much less than what it costs you to buy 13 episodes of the Sopranos, or for about the same price as what you'd pay for 2 two-hour movies on DVD. And, come on, this is "24" - one of the best shows that most of us here have ever seen.

Review: To have the oportunity to watch the entire season in a DVD is just great, this show is the best in TV ever. The story keeps you wanting more and more. Kiefer Sutherland performance is fantastic.

Review: 24 hours for 24 episodes in 'real-time', eh?.
24 was a great series (more to come?)... I'm sure this has been discussed before, but my favourite episodes were... Episodes 1-7 (12am - 7am)
"The sleeping episodes" - watching Jack Bauer sleep for the first 7 hours was an ingenious way to kickstart the series. The highlights, without doubt, were when Jack snored and almost choked (magnificent), and when Jack tossed and turned in bed about 10 times in the space of 1 minute...fantastic. Episodes 10-18 (9am - 5pm).
"The working episodes" - never has a desk job been more enthralling. Watching Jack type away furiously was impressive. When Jack had that stretch from 2:30pm - 4:15pm where he didn't have to press 'BackSpace' once, was awe-inspiring. However, I must say that episode 22 (9pm - 10pm) was rather disgusting. Watching Jack on the 'john' for half the episode was rather disturbing, though at the time, he seemed to be reading an interesting article in the paper. Thankyou for your patience.

Summary: Oy Vey, Stop Already!
Review: The first 3 to 5 minutes recapped previous episodes for those who didn't watch, and the last 2 minutes or so set you up for scenes from the next weeks show. So of the 45 available minutes of each show, maybe you got to see 38 of actual story line. Plot "drag-out"? This show perfected the term. I watch so much TV, if a writer can't tell his or her story in 90 minutes or less, I'm not interested. So forget about long movies. Each episode is alone a cliffhanger, and the entire show one big one. Stupid Daughter - breaks every rule the parents set up for her. If she'd only listen to her damn parents, so many lives wouldn't have been lost. She "killed" her friend, a cop bringing her back to her parents, and her own mom for starters. The show should have killed her ...! Waste your money to buy this DVD, but don't waste those precious 24 hours of your life. Take a pass. I will for season 2!

Summary: AWESOME SHOW!
Review: I didn't get a chance to watch any of this show when it was on TV last fall. I am now very glad that I didn't. This show is sooo suspenseful that I don't think I could have lasted the week (or sometimes 2) in between episodes. This box set DVD is the perfect way to watch this show. I am only half way through the episodes so far, but can not wait until I finish the show. Now they've got a second season coming on TV soon, but I think I'll wait until it comes out on DVD next fall to get it. This DVD set is great. So/so video quality but it's tv so it's not that you care. a 5.1 soundtrack would have rocked but as it is for only around 40 bucks you sure get your moneys worth!

Summary: Cool show poor DVD features
Review: 24 was an intense rollercoaster ride of a TV show. I was disappointed that the DVD was not in Dolby 5.1 and that there where no chapter stops within each episode. I think that there is something for the true fan because seeing it for the second time and knowing the story line lets you see subtle hints that you did not catch the first time.

Review: It's unfortunate that such a jewel of broadcast television show has been memorialized in such a haphazzard fashion. No cue points within an episode - impossible to find commentary - half hearted audio mastering instead of true 5.1. Flimsy packaging. With such an elegant show, a more elegant presentation should be expected. Shame on Fox.

Summary: Great Show --- But where's the advertised Season 2 teaser?
Review: "24" was the BEST show on television last season. Of course I quickly ordered the DVD set, and recieved it... today. The image quality and sound is spectacular, and my review WOULD have gave it 5 stars. BUT, it didn't have the advertised "Season 2 teaser trailer" that hyped me about the DVD release in the first place. Happy with the show and the bonus ending, but upset about the teaser that was taken out.
