Review: I haven't even finished watching half of this stuff, but so far I am more than happy about this purchase. Coming in at 5 hours and 20 minutes is a DVD featuring Zeppelin playing live at their best. The extra features are nice too. The picture and sound quality is great..especially for something recorded in the 70s. Some of my favorite moments so far are Plant's "ah, ah" interaction with the crowd during "Black Dog" and seeing Jimmy Page destroy all with the solo to "Achilles Last Stand (this sent chills down my spine). Another great thing is the low price!!! If you are looking for an outstanding concert DVD, get this.

Review: Unfortunately, to the average fan this stuff is great. The problem I have is the Earls Court footage is not from the best night. Folks, you must believe me here. The DVD bootleg footage of 5/24/75, which is the night before most of the dvd footage,blows it away. The version of 'The song remains the same and the rain song' give me chills. The entire acoustic segment towers over the dvd versions. Why Page didn't commercially release this is beyond comprehension. The Knebworth footage is enlightening, especialy Bonzo. But hears the real thing. What made Led Zeppelin so special is the fact that you could never grab them. They were inaccessable. The only incredible times are the ones you hear but never see. No interviews, no t.v., hardly a press conference. Just the music. Street music. Bare bones rock and roll that you would have heard from the lower east side of Manhattan to Upper Harlem. You can hear them in rock, progressive, rap, dance, ect.. Zep had the groove. They were the real deal. After every tour it was back to the midlands of England with no fanfare. As Jimmy Page once said, it was 'light and shade'. For a band to be second to the great Beatles in record sales with only a handful of records, no solid concert footage, albums with no writing or band identification on them, and constantly featured, to this very day, in musician magazines and music weeklys, as major influences, its quite a treat to 'almost' capture them. But we will never, really.

Summary: GREAT AUDIO/DISTRACTING VIDEO
Review: Remember this name--DICK CARRUTHERS. If you are tempted to buy a DVD that he produced, DON'T!!! Watching this dvd is an exercise in torture. Working with superb audio the producer has managed to destroy what could have been an outstanding collection of classic led zepplin works by changing cameras FAR too frequently. On a couple of the cuts, the number of camera changes is in the 40 to 50 range for a three minute song. Some of the longer cuts have OVER 100 CAMERA CHANGES IN A SINGLE SONG!! As a result there is no opportunity to enjoy the work of Page or Plante because the camera never stays on them for more than 5 seconds. What a shame, using this technique to its extreme and destroying what could have been a superb, classic work.

Summary: A Definite "MUST HAVE" for All True Zeppelin Fans
Review: This DVD is, without a doubt, THE definitive collection of live Led Zeppelin cuts. I had seen the black & white Danish radio concert before and this is superb early Zeppelin. I had never seen the Albert Hall 1970 performance. Oh boy! I grew up listening to Zeppelin (I am 44) and I can tell you, this is killer material. Now check out the review by Wayne Woodall. This guy is complaining that some songs were "drastically overplayed". Come on, Wayne-a-roo!!! THAT is what made Zeppelin so incredible. You could bet your a** that when you went to see them, you were not going to get a six minute version of Dazed and Confused. The ONLY part of Woodall's comments on which I will agree is the fact that John Paul Jones was under-rated by fans (not by THIS one) and the press. OK, Zep fans, get out and BUY this set!

Summary: Are you a Led Zep fan? If so, buy it!!
Review: First off, I play drums and the legendary John Bonham has been a huge influence on my playing. So I could hardly wait for this DVD to come out. My first review here several months ago must have broken some kind of rule or gotten lost in cyberspace or a server crash. Either way, here's another try. The whole DVD is quite simply a work of art. Some of the scenes do seem a little dated (Page and his bow), but compared with all we had before this ('The Song Remains the Same' movie); this is state of the art stuff!
As I stated, I am a drummer. So of course, I love Bonham's prominence in this DVD set. It appears Page went out of his way to appease us drummers, and I'm very grateful. But I'm also a frustrated bassist, vocalist and guitarist, so I was equally enthralled to witness the genius of each band member. Of course Bonzo and his bombastic wall of sound and very scary bass drum work (with a single Ludwig Speed King pedal folks, how the...!!??) is Nirvana to me. But I also loved watching John Paul and Bonzo reign in Page as if in some kind of mental telepathy! Page would be wandering a little too long with some guitar solos, and Jones would tolerate it for awhile, then he would glance at Bonzo and they would force Page back into the real world with a vengeance. 'Achilles Last Stand' is a good example of this; and a blistering version also because I truthfully didn't think Bonzo could pull this one off live, but he showed my mortal self just what a real, technical hard rock drummer can do!! I watch it over and over because he nails the time changes and rolls perfectly! Not to say I don't love Page's playing, because I do. He was and is a master of the guitar and writing rock music. I also love Plant's vocals, and you've got plenty here on this DVD. But they aren't as clear and up front as I'd like, since Plant really is an underrated vocalist. I love trying to mimic his primal, sensual squeals and complete abandon, so I was a little disappointed the vocals weren't more prominent, but it's a trivial thing because the footage of Bonham more than makes up for that minor irritation. So, if you love Led Zeppelin or any of the band members (or all of them, like myself), you have to get this DVD! You'll laugh at some of the dated parts, but the jaw dropping musicianship will leave you in complete awe and make you realize just why you started playing an instrument in the first place, and why there will never be another Led Zeppelin without Bonzo. We drummers are a dime a dozen, but a select few are truly great artists, and Bonzo was a master artisan, just as Page, Jones and Plant were and are at their crafts.

Summary: What's NOT to Love About This DVD?
Review: I've been a Zep fan since the late-Seventies, but I was too young to have seen them live. Since John Bonham's death in 1980, I had become a major Zeppelin fan. However, rare collectibles and bootlegs have, more or less, eluded me. So, it was with great anticipation that I tore off the wrapping on my copy of this DVD. I put in the first disc, which features a famous Royal Albert Hall show, and I put the package away so I would not see the song list. I wanted to experience the Royal Albert Hall show as if I was in the audience. My pulse was pounding as we see the band walk on stage and immediately explode into "We're Gonna Groove." I was ecstatic! I was seeing Led Zeppelin like I always wanted to see them: Energized, and eager to play. And man, do they ever play. It's a concert like none we see today. No props, no flashpots, and no special lighting effects. Just a band, plugged into amplifiers, and playing their hearts out on stage. I was in heaven. This was not just another concert DVD. . . This was like watching a dream. I had imagined what it was like to see Zeppelin prior to 1973, and with this disc, I not only get to see them play, but it's a mesmerizing show. I finished the first disc nearly exhausted with excitement, and having to wipe away a tear or two from joy. It's a feeling I will probably never have again, but it's one I wanted to share with you because if you are either old enough to have listened to Led Zeppelin before Bonzo's death or you are simply a fan of their music, this DVD is the most crucial part of a Zep fan's official collection. You have to understand that, aside from the decidedly mediocre and indulgent concert film, "The Song Remains the Same," most Zep fans today have never seen them like this. Now, thanks to Jimmy Page, we are able to see Led Zeppelin as they were in virtually every part of their career. It is an excellent document of their career as a band, and I recommend it highly. If you don't get chills watching Robert Plant belt out early Zep songs in the Royal Albert Hall show, you were probably never really a Zeppelin fan to begin with. Furthermore, several reviews here are critical of the pre-digital era recordings. I think that it is absolutely LAUGHABLE to criticize this disc for having less than 21st Century digital quality. Does anyone whine about the "less-than-stellar" recordings made by Louis Armstrong in the Twenties, or do jazz fans clap their hands in sheer bliss that they can sit and enjoy the the fact that they can actually hear Satchmo play? The fact that we can see Zeppelin kick ass on stage is well worth the ridiculously low price offered on this website. Can the audio here compare to the best discs available? No. Does that matter? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Look at what you are getting: There has not been an official video document of a Led Zeppelin concert, aside from "The Song Remains the Same," for nearly THIRTY YEARS! Fans who did not have access to bootlegs never heard "Earl's Court '75," or "Knebworth '79." This disc affords true fans, who never saw the band live, the opportunity to see Zeppelin at their best. I am a fan of their music, and after I finished watching the disc, I commented to a friend that I would have paid $250 for access to this footage. That's what this disc means to me. It's almost priceless material, and we get it for less than one ticket to ANY current rock concert being held today. That says something. I hope you get the same level of enjoyment out of it as I did, because if you do, you are in for one hell of a good time.

Summary: Hard Core Led Zepp fans, and wanna be's will hate this
Review: O.K. I finally watched the entire DVD collection. It took me quite some time since there is tons of footage in this. Led Zeppelin's strengths were in my opinion their weaknesses at the same time. They were masters of dynamics, and volume, but used it too much in concert. Some songs were drastically overplayed. Jimmy Page was a perfect rhythm guitarist, and that's what made their songs great, but his leads were pretty bad. They were memorable in composition, but sloppy in execution. It was cool to see how they transitioned from an early blues-based rock band, to a hard rock band, to an almost 80's pop band. That being said, here are my + & - comments. + Great concert footage, excellent sound & video

- Almost too much material to absorb, less is more The segment I enjoyed most was Madison Square Garden in the mid-70's. They were at their hard rock pinnacle at that point. There were 3 songs straight where I thought they were the best ever, and then it fizzled. The 80's stuff with John Paul Jones on keys got boring. Overall it's worth watching, but debatable whether or not you'll want to watch it again. Die hards will love it. Wanna be's will say they love it because it's almost unheard of anyone giving a real take on this group. I like this band a lot, but don't worship them. Jimmy Page to me was the biggest force in the band, yet the weakest link because of his lack of lead guitar prowess. Robert Plant had great tone, but never hit the high notes that were on the records. He floated in the same key range on every song. Bonham was a master drummer, although Moby Dick was too long, and got repetitious. He was a better song drummer than a soloist. John Paul Jones was the best player in the lot, and don't think he's ever got the due he deserved by fans or the band. He never missed, play sweet bass lines, and added versatility of keys. The fact they left him out of the re-union was a total diss.

Summary: The live document of the world's greatest band
Review: It's hard to imagine a better live DVD of Led Zeppelin than this. The music spans a decade of performances, from the early years playing blues-influenced rock to the wilder, keyboard-assisted songs of their final album. You can see the band in each stage of their brief career. Some of these songs are definitive live versions. Others are alternate takes. The multiple versions show the band exploring slightly different tempos and lengths for songs like Dazed and Confused and Whole Lotta Love. But the high point is the relentless focus on the band itself. Because this footage was shot in the 1970s --- before the annoying jump-cut technique was established by MTV videos --- the camera tends to linger on each band member for a while. You get to see Robert Plant sing a whole verse before cutting to Jimmy Page. It's a minor difference technically, but after hours of watching the band perform, it has a deeper effect. You feel like you're watching a rock band, not an advertisement for the band's latest album. Although the wait for this DVD was long, it was worth it. The footage has a perfect balance between grainy, you-are-there bootleg video and professional camera work. The songs are arranged on the menu with the main course up front and the long list of extras below. You can sit back and see the big concerts, then select the TV show appearances and interview outtakes if you want a little more. If you are a Led Zeppelin fan, you'll love this. If not, you should watch it and see what this band could do on stage.
