Summary: West Side Story remains one of my favorites.
Review: I saw West Side Story at the Chinese Grauman Theater in Hollywood when it first premired. From where I lived at the time, the Grauman Theater was quite an extravagance. I must have been all of 16 at the time. I fell completely and utterly in love with Natalie Wood. Really! I could almost taste her. I also had the opportunity of seeing West Side Story on stage at the Moulon Rouge, soon-to-be-Aquaris Theater, with Chita Rivera. It was actually more exciting on stage. But the film does the play justice and captures much of the play's excitement. The score, by Leonard Bernstein, is by far his best. (On The Waterfront is right behind). Not to mention the lyrics. I love the opening, the overture, the lines on the giant screen that eventually become New York City. I also had the opportunity of performing in the play in high school, Bernardo, leader of the Sharks! We were a smash! "Maria, I'll never stop saying: MARIA!"

Summary: The movie made me cry.
Review: I love this movie! It has the best songs and dance and the story is amazing! If you like a tear jerker this movie is for you. If only Tony and Maria could have had a life together! Enjoy this movie! Its the best!

Summary: One of My All-Time Fave Flicks
Review: Before I saw this movie, I didn't think I would like it...boring 60s movie, I thought. NOw I have seen it I LOVE it, and I am going to buy it as soon as I can. I hardly ever cry in movies, but I cried in this the most out of any movie I have ever seen. The choreography is amongst the best you'll ever see on screen, and the cast is terrific, and the story is beautiful, and there is so much tension, and the score is AMAZING, and it's overall so wonderful and heartbreaking, and I wonder why so many people complain about this movie. I am a pretty harsh critic, but any movie that moves me in the way that West Side Story did deserves to go on my all-time faves.

Summary: Don't go through your lifetime without seeing it!!
Review: This was probably the first movie I have ever seen. I saw first when I was three or four years old, and I absolutly fell in love with it. I'm seventeen now, and I can't believe how fresh and new it is, even today. The songs are classics that will get you singing to them to your bathroom mirror and the dance numbers are simply spectacular. Natalie Wood really seems Puerto Rican, in fact after was suprised to find out she wasn't. The twist on Romeo and Juliet is great because it's set in 1950's New York. I cried and cried when Tony and Maria run to eachother and he is shot down. It tells you alot about humanity and the way racism can tear us apart and keep people from understanding eachother. Not to be missed!

Summary: Remarkable, really outstanding for a musical
Review: Musicals have the reputation of being gay, but this film makes anyone morose over the ending. That's what made Romeo and Juliet so great, and West Side Story as well: you want to be in Tony's place because he was willing give up his life to be with "the one."

West Side Story is the best musical ever. It and Mary Poppins are a couple of the only musicals that don't get in the way of creating a movie with acting, not just music.

But with this film the music supports the story, the West Side Story (sorry). It transcends all musicals to another level, a level of humility and reality of the great films of the world. It belongs in everyone's list of top movies.

One statement of advice: watch it as a movie, not as a musical you had to tag along to watch.

Summary: The best movie ever created
Review: Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer outdo themselves in this stunning and touching movie. Natalie wood plays Maria,(sung by the talented Marni Nixon) a beautiful and wise Puerto Rican girl. She falls in love with Tony,(played by Richard Beymer) the inactive member of her brother's rival gang. Trouble strikes when their secret romance is discovered. This movie shows the horrors violence can bring, and the tenderness of true love. I would strongly suggest this movie for anyone who enjoys laughing, crying, and singing along with all of the characters. Don't miss songs like: "Tonight", "America", and "I Feel Pretty".

Summary: An American Romeo and Juliet.
Review: I saw this when I was in sixth grade. This is the story of two people-a boy and a girl-who belong to different nationalities and gangs. But even though they belong to rival gangs it doesn't stop them from falling in love.

The music is superb and the actors spectacular. West Side Story is a musical classic that is destined to become as well-known and popular as The Sound of Music and Singin in the Rain.

Summary: If you enjoy musicals - This one is Unforgettable..!!!!
Review: To make a good musical one needs to have a story, music, song and dance. All these must work together like a vintner makes a fine wine. Using this analogy West Side Story would be the 20 year old cabrinet.

Trouble in west New York an a fight for a small block of the street sets the scene. The Sharks & Jets are really fighting for their own place in the world. The only problem is they don't realize that fighting each other isn't the way to do it until it's too late.

The dance is some of the best I have ever seen. The music and song top of the line. The story line - academy award no doubt The acting & actors - the casting department worked overtime.

I have to rate the movie a family 5 star production.

Summary: Thoroughly entertaining!Terribly heartbreaking. A winner.
Review: Oh sure, in the nineties (2000s?), the gang scenes may not live up to the cold blooded ruthlessness of the times, but, hey, get a life! If that's what you're looking for, go find a pointless Tupac flick and get your 'hood' fix there. This movie is more than that. This movie is for movie and/or musical lovers that love a well told, well acted story. You can feel the heat and grittiness of the city the story takes place in. You can understand (though not necessarily agree with) the mutual hate between the rival gangs. But you can also agree with the way Tony and Maria tragically try to cross rigid lines drawn by their factions. The songs are outstanding- even humorous. They tell a lot of the story in themselves, as good musicals will. "Cool, Officer Krupke", and "America" are some of the most brilliant scenes in movie, and musical history. And the opening scene that introduces the rival gangs with the "West Side Story Theme Song" as the backdrop still gives me chills. It too is one of those great Hollywood scenes of all time. Guys, watch it with a gal so you can still claim manhood when your boyz can't believe you watched it. That way you won't miss out on a great flick. With the advent of surround sound home theatre, this movie will be even more a treat to view at home.

Summary: The Best Musical ever made!
Review: This is the most incredibly moving and passionate movie I've ever seen. Who cares if half of the characters are lip-synching? They still make you cry. The dance scenes are visually stunning. I defy anyone to not get caught up in this masterpiece.
