Summary: VHS buyers beware!!
Review: The "collection" is great; however, the editorial review said that the content was the same on VHS and DVD... it is not. You only get 3 episodes with the VHS (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween) I have informed Amazon.com of this but I still see that the Editorial Review has not changed. All you DVD buys, consider yourselves lucky!

Review: The 3 main titles are the holiday Peanuts episodes that had become a tradition by the time we Gen-Xers were growing up. I enjoy tradition, ergo, I enjoy these episodes. For many of us, it is comforting to look back to our roots. The other three episodes (the election day special, the Pilgrims special, and the alternate Christmas special), have a self-awareness that destroys the magic of the original Peanuts creation. As long as you consider them just bonus material, they are okay. The best, in my opinion, was the Pilgrims special.For those who have never seen these Peanuts episodes (and thus lack the nostalgia element), I recommend them on the strength that there is no foul language, no sex or violence, and they are short (roughly 15-20 minutes), which gives you something relaxing to watch for a short amount of time. They also make great shorts to show at holiday parties, as most people enjoy seeing them again and they are not offensive to anybody.

Review: The first of the Peanuts TV specials premiered in 1965. At that time, most folks were likely watching ol' Chuck's misadventures via grainy CBS transmission on a 13" TV screen. But now, 35 years later, you can own our own, pristine copy of that and other Peanuts classics in this charming DVD box set. If, like me, you grew up along with Peanuts, the various Schultz/Melendez holiday specials were always highlights of family television viewing. The three that headline this set were among the best: "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," and "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" The stories and characterizations in each of those 3 are classic, and have aged well -- our kids laugh as hard at each of them as I used to a quarter century ago. The wry humor and dialogue will amuse adults, too, and stand up to repeated viewings. "Christmas" and "Great Pumpkin" were among the earliest Peanuts specials, and have a rougher, thicker-lined animation style that has its own charm. The DVD transfer is excellent on all 3 -- the colors are vivid, and the clarity is good enough that it reveals the limitations of the sometimes primitive animation. It's wonderful to finally have these near-timeless animated specials on a format like DVD, which won't wear out and degrade like VHS. The one disappointment is that these releases don't contain more content (as a technological matter, the entire contents of the box set could fit easily onto a single DVD). Each disc contains the headline special, and one additional Peanuts special (for a total of about 50 minutes of programming), with no extras. The extra episodes, while enjoyable, aren't as stellar as the holiday specials that headline the discs (save for "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" -- the extra on the "Great Pumpkin" disc -- which comes close). It's too bad that Paramount didn't do more with the DVD medium. I guess their marketing department figured that folks would shell out the bucks even for a no-frills pack'o'Peanuts, and I proved them right. I hope that future Peanuts releases will contain more programs per DVD. But that caveat about the content-to-cost ratio doesn't mean I regret my purchase. To the contrary. My kids and I have watched them repeatedly since the box arrived, and haven't yet tired of Snoopy, Woodstock, Linus, Sally, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, and good old Charlie Brown.

Review: This collection is the best version of Challes Schultz's Charlie Brown Holidays: "IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN" - - something is looming in that old pumpkin patch. Will Charlie Brown receive his wishes from the Great Pumpkin? "A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING" - - the settlers and Native Amercian play mixing with Charlie's dismal outlook on life. "A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS". - - One year, I recall a Christmas where the paychecks were cut. IT looked pretty dismal until a few of us kids went into the woods to fetch a pine tree. In the woods the tree looked great, full branches, Christmas tree top. But, when we dragged it into the house, it was too tall. So, we sawed off the base and tried to make do. Thing was, the base was the part that made the rest of the tree look full. It was a great family laugh as it is constantly recalled when we see this Charlie Brown - - How can you celebrate a holiday by forcing your spirit to elevate above a challenging condition?

Review: This is a great box set! No more waiting every year to watch the special and then hope you have a tape to tape the show. The DVD set is a great gift even at the cost ....... Now, if they would have included the Easter special, this set would have been priceless. Get it while you can. JO

Review: This three disc set includes six cherished Peanuts classics focusing on the holidays of the last three months of the year, just like it says on the cover. The yuletide disc has the immortal "A Charlie Brown Christmas" where Linus explains the true meaning of Christmas and "It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown." The Thanksgiving disc has "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "The Mayflower Voyagers." The third disc has "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and the suddenly perfectly entitled "You're Not Elected Charlie Brown." Apparently Charles Schulz knew exactly what we needed to see at this particular moment in history. Makes you stop and think, which is a rather common occurence when watching a Peanuts special. The one minor complaint would be that there are not many extras included with these DVDs, but these are television shows and not theatrical movies with cartoon characters and not actors you could interview. Besides, this is Peanuts where simplicity is the key.
