Summary: You call these special features....
Review: I was almost going to buy this DVD boxed set, but after my DVD seller looked at the disks and what was on them, he said don't bother. The shows themselves are great, they have been cleaned and restored ditigaly and are the best they have looked in years, but Warners really put zero bonus features on them. If you can count the kids games, a cheap Music video, and a home video of a scooby fan who is forty years old and looks like he has no life outside of watching the shows, It's rather pathetic that this looks to be the way Warners will be releasing classic HB cartoons on DVD in the future, Bleech.

Summary: Lazy DVD Production Drags Down a Classic
Review: All things Scooby are big business now. The merchandise, the movies, the constant repeated showings on Boomerang, the video and DVD releases etc. Scooby is certainly deseving of all of this too which leads to the question - why have Warners short-changed him so much on this 'collector's edition' boxed set?
The notion of the Hanna Barbera classic shows getting released by season in boxed sets instead of random episodes being stuck on a disc is cause to celebrate (Scooby is joined by the Flintstones, Jetsons and Johnny Quest in this new marketing idea - with many more to follow, I'm sure) but a little more time should have been spent on the execution. The show itself is as brilliant as ever and requires no more said than that - the first 25 episodes transfered nicely to DVD. The problems begin as soon as you want to play the damn thing! The packaging, although nice to look at, is highly impractical with the sleeve being made of a thin (and brittle) plastic that doesn't seem to want to let go of the contents!
Once you've managed to remove the discs then you can see how ironic the term 'SPECIAL features' is! The 'animated' menus are the same on every disc with nothing on the main menu to tell you which disc you have got in! Get the Picture and the music video are available on other Scooby DVD releases, The Scooby Doo Challenge is 6 questions of questionable accuracy, Street Smarts is a couple of minutes lazily filled with people saying who their favourite member of the gang is and Funky Fashion is just plain pathetic. The only glimmer of entertainment in these extras is the Ultimate Fan documentary which starts well but after a while ... well, when you've seen one middle-aged man showing you his collection of Scooby Doo dolls and games you've seen 'em all!
I don't wish to seem too negative about this title but I only look at it as what it could have been had Warners spent a bit more time and money on the extras particularly considering the hefty price tag attached to this item. Compared to the recent Looney Tunes boxed set this is a very lazy and shoddy offering. I hold my hopes high for volume two!

Summary: Pricing Issue
Review: Although the content of this DVD set looks great, the pricing leaves much to be desired. The amount of content on the DVD is similar to other DVD sets released from the Hanna Barbera catalogue (ie, Jonny Quest, Flintstones), but while these sets are reasonably priced at $29.99, Scooby Doo, Where Are You is priced closer to $50. Why doesn't the company in charge of this quit jacking up the price? Considering their production costs on rereleasing this old material, they'd still earn a sizable profit if they'd just price their product a little more reasonably. I, for one, would buy this DVD if it sold on Amazon for $29.99.

Summary: GREAT
Review: As this is one of my ALL time favorite animated shows I had been waiting for this for some time! I remember watching this as a child and being mesmerized. The show still holds up today pretty well. The dvds look good here as does the packaging. These are the best episodes also. A must own for scooby fans new and old.

Summary: It's about time!
Review: Come on. You know Scooby Doo. I am just glad that they are finally putting together a "complete" something. Prior to this, there were a myriad of random episode groupings (and a DVD with the first 5 episodes).

The quality of the transfer is very good. The picture and sound are both crisp with few detectable analog artifacts.

The special features could perhaps be a little more entertaining. Episode commentaries (maybe even a little more adult-themed?) would have been fun.

Regardless, this DVD is definitely worth the purchase if you enjoy the reruns on Cartoon Network.

Summary: Great to have, but...
Review: Don't get me wrong, I am glad I bought this - it's great to have so many episodes on DVD, and watching the unmasking-of-the-villain scenes, particularly from the second season, is just hilarious (Helga and the suction cups anyone?) However, my main gripe is this: the "Scooby Dooby Doo where are you, We got some work to do now" theme song didn't debut until the fourth or fifth episode of the first season. Before that they used an instrumental theme which was much creepier, but was still used as the show's main underscore for the first two seasons. But for some inexplicable reason, Warner Bros have released this "collector's" edition with the original music replaced by the more familiar theme song on ALL the first season's episodes. Why?!?! Still, they've kept the original Hanna-Barbera logos at the end of each episode which is something, I suppose.

Summary: 1 of...
Review: Everyone already knows this series is to cartoons what the Beatles are to music. The *only* reason I'm writing this review is because, on the side of the set, it says "1," alluding to the possibility of future sets.
Hanna-Barbera Execs, if you're reading this (for some reason), PLEASE release a complete set of the "Scooby-Doo Movies" next.

Summary: This is way over due....
Review: Finally someone has woken up and has seen the light by putting the original 60's and 70's Scooby Doo Where Are You in a box set. Sure, we all bought the Original Mysteries, The Creepiest Capers, and the Spookiest Tales dvds, and also the vhs tapes, but most of the episodes have been hashed out, recycled and put on vhs and dvd over and over again, without new episodes being released. I like many of you am tired of this process. By releasing this box set of the complete first and second seasons, hopefully this will make up for all those episodes that have been released over and over again to us. I went ahead and preordered this, cant wait to get it. Now I can either sale my copies of my other Scooby dvd's or give them away to any kid who needs to know what Saturday mornings were all about back then. Scooby Doo Where Are You is a classic, and this box set hopefully is s sighn of better things to come....
