Summary: Great movie, Great package, but.....
Review: Halloween is an excellent movie, and this DVD package is great, the quality is superior to past releases, the lbx TV version is super cool, with some nice extras including a modern documentary, but it's missing the commentary track included in the collectors laserdisc, which would have made this DVD a perfect 5 stars

Summary: The Classic Horror Film Of All Time
Review: I just received my DVD copy of "Halloween - Restored - Limited Editon" and just the cover gave me the creeps! This was the movie that my mother tried to stop me seeing as a child....and now I can see why. A babysitter (Jamie Lee Curtis) is stalked on Halloween night by a crazed, masked killer. Teenagers are massacred all over the place and the body count rises as quickly as the tension. "Halloween" is not "a splatter movie" (in fact there isn't much blood at all). It's just the creepiness of the whole situation that is almost too much to take....definitely edge of your seat stuff. Many sequels followed, but they are nowhere near as good as the original. Let's face it, what sequel is? The Limited Edition DVD is a two disc set. Disc One is the US Television Version with extra scenes added in, the other is a digitally enhanced version (THX) with crystal clear picture and sound. There is also a great doco called "Halloween Unmasked 2000" which is very informative. For instance, I didn't know that the Michael Myer's mask was actually William Shatner's face. No wonder he gave me the creeps in "Star Trek"! We don't celebrate Halloween "Down Under" (it's a very American thing to do) and after watching "Halloween" again, I'm glad we don't! Well done John Carpenter, you're a genius.

Summary: The Scariest Movie Of This Century
Review: Everything about Halloween is scary. From the music to the mask this is a horror film that will remain a classic for a lifetime

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Watch It
Review: The scariest movie ever made, "Halloween" started the slasher genre. And it is by far the best slasher movie ever made. No movie has come even close. Watch it alone, with the lights out, with some candles lit. You won't be able to sleep for three days! The music is so incredibly scary that it will w/out a doubt scare you every time, or at least make you a bit more nervous and aware. This movie, by far the scariest ever made, will scare the absolute crap out of you. Watch it with a boy/girlfriend, and watch out. You never know just who in your family could be a posessed psycho-killer.

Summary: Decent movie given a WORLD CLASS transfer
Review: Unfortunately this film has not aged well. It feels rough and somewhat uneven by today's standards, even for independent film-making, and it is surprisingly tame considering that it is THE film that started the 80's splaterpunk movement, but thats okay.

That aside, this transfer is FLAWLESS! Someone called this a re-master but in fact this is a FULL HARD CORE restoration, the likes I've not seen except on Hollywood's bigest legends like Gone With The Wind or Fantasia. Somebody loved this film enough to treat it like a Smithsonian relic, and that alone says a-lot about the power of this film for many people. Yes it's better than the Criterion Laserdisc and thats impressive!

Summary: Excellent sound. Very good video.
Review: A classic movie and a great restoration. A masterpiece

Summary: A real "treat" for fans...
Review: This double disc set is well worth the money for fans as it provides a bevy of promotional material for the first film, info about why the television version is different, and best of all, a nice clean print.

While it might have been better (and cost effective) for some to have had the eleven minutes of footage filmed for NBC simply placed in an outtake section, providing a second disc with the scenes incorporated into the movie (and the stuff NBC didn't want taken out) makes for an interesting comparison, turning the film into a more psychological film than horror.

All in all, it makes a worthy purchase for hard core fans of the film who want both the elusive t.v. version and a great presentation of the original (the "making-of" documentary is wonderful).

On a side note -- is it just me or are there a lot of leaves still on the trees on Halloween night in Haddonfeld? And none of them have changed color! I love stuff like that...

Enjoy!

Summary: the dvd is awesome!
Review: This movie never fails to scare me. And I think it's the brilliantuse of Michael Myers' white mask. It is featureless and devoid of anyhumanity, just a monster, if you will. And, unlike Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th (to which, unfortunately, this film will always be compared) it can happen, it does happen. The first two anyway (the sequels don't count). The DVD is definitely the definitive version. The picture and sound quality have never been better. The interactive menus even creep me out!!!

Summary: The mother of slasher films?
Review: This one is definitley the mother of slasher films. But why? This movie is packed with cheap acting, dull score, bad editing, and a real no- good thrills. I appreiciate John Carpenter's work, but it's so overrated! One of the most overrated films I've seen. But the thing I liked is that scenes that you can see in Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, or other slasher flix were started in this film. For example, when Mike Meyers was wounded, Jamie Lee Curtis looked around towards another place and when he looked at the place where Mike Meyers was lying down, he's not there! Nice try Carpenter, but sorry for giving you 2 stars!
