Summary: Could Have Been A Better Movie
Review: I liked the movie overall, but I hated the cursing and the fornication. I'm not a script writer for movies or a writer at all, but I do know that the best books and movies have done without it. Frankly, I don't know why people keep watching movies with cursing, fornication, and a lot of other crude elements like that. I really don't see that it makes it any better at all, only worse. I know a lot of people disagree with me and/or don't like me at all for writing this, but I just have too, because I'm a Christian, which are suppossed to be salt(to preserve) and light(to shed light in the dark places and to show how ugly sin is). I don't mean to wag my tongue, I know I'm not perfect, no one is, except God and I know He doesn't have favorites, because the Bible says so. I know that movies with these types of features will keep being made and most people will keep watching them, but the importent thing is, that we do what God says. I have read the Bible and I believe it's the written Word of God, so what I'm getting at is, since God is omniscient(all-knowing) and omnipotent(all-powerful), I think I should listen to Him. It's only logical. Read Philippians 4:8 and Colosians 3:2 (God wrote this too, and He doesn't do anything in a vain) about what to think about.

Summary: 3 1/2 stars?? Oh dear god?
Review: What's this world coming to?? How can you not see how blatantly horrible this movie is?? Me giving this movie 2 stars is being VERY kind.

There's so much wrong with this movie I don't know where to start!

Maybe I'll start with the cliched love triangle. Or how predictible this movie is?

This movie could have been so much better if, put a bit more focus on the Japanese, and the planning of the attack. It could have been better if the love story didn't take up half the movie. It could have been better if the focus of the movie was actually the attack on Pearl Harbor, as opposed to the stupid love story. It could have been better if the people in the movie actually acted at their full potential.

The worst part about this movie was how they made the Americans look godly. I read another review someone wrote here, it involved the part where the British guy said "if the rest of them back home are as good as you...then I welcome them to the war" and he said he could detect a bit of patriotism. What I detected was Americans making themselves look like they were the only making an impact against the Nazis, which is simply not true.

This movie could have been over, right after the attack on Pearl Harbor...

But no...

They can't stand going out on a losing note so they go into the whole Dolittle operation. In this scene, we find Alec Baldwin giving one of the cheesiest, most poorly acted speeches I have ever seen, my sister was in hysterics while he was giving his speech.

So much more wrong with this movie...but I only have a thousand words :)

Summary: Pear Harbor
Review: If you love romance movie than you'll love this, although I feel as if there was not enough story on "Pearl Harbor" itself. It was all about romance. But it seemed as if something was missing. Anyway, overall this movie was great, if i had to describe this movie in as few words as possible it would be a "Pop-up excitement," you'll never know what they'll hit you with.

Summary: Alec Baldwin rules!
Review: This movie is worth watching just for Alec Baldwin's brief role. He makes me want to go out and fight the Japs myself!

Summary: Embarassing
Review: This movie is a horroe.I am not the kind to make comparissons
to "Private Ryan", since that was clearly not the intention.
I judge this movie for what it tries to be. In that
context, it is just awful.Let me back that up. (caution:
spoilers, although the entire movie is predictable from
scene one)

For those wanting to see a "romance movie", there is not
a single scene, plot twist, or line that does not have
big flashing warning lights telling you exactly what is
going to happen. The I'll-be-back-for-you-baby-wait-for-
me scene where Affleck leaves for Europe is a total set-up
for his "death" 15 minutes later. The best-friend-I-ever-
had speech by Hartnett is screaming "betrayal". The
writers of the film felt that if Kate Beckinsale got into
the sack "too quickly" with Hartnett, the audience will
hate her so they solved that "problem" with a cute
"Three Months later..." title card. Gee ! I guess it's
time to move on ! What happens when Affleck returns
"from the dead", is so contrived I started laughing.
Of course he returns the night before the attack, finds
Beckinsale, figures out what happened, gets into a fight
with Hartnett at a bar, but by morning, just as the
bombs started falling, they are friends again. How
convenient ! All the sub-plot romances are equally
predictable; eg. minor "funny" character proposes to
girlfriend = death sentence to girlfriend.
Even fans of the film will agree that the romance plot,
since there really is no other coherent plot, is cliche
and uninspiring - but they were drawn in by the "action".

Let's talk about the "action". I'm all for action, but in
a "historical" movie, there should be a certain level
of realism and technical (if not historical) accuracy.
What they made those WWII planes do was something out
of the Death Star battle sequence than what was remotely
possible. Cuba Gooding Jr.'s "manning the gun" scene was
more akin to Rambo III...

The characters are charicatures. Voight as FDR: hillarious.
Baldwin as Doolittle: cornball. But the top award for

goofiness goes to the portrayal of the Japanese. I busted
out laughing whenever they showed Imperial Navy HQ. The
loinclothed sailors pushing model boats around for their
superiors was a gas ! According to Bay, it seems the
Imperial staff felt the need to conduct their top secret
planning in an open field surrounded by children flying
kites and banners with Chinese characters that make NO
sense. Well, maybe the budget went to the big battle.

As far as historical accuracy is concerned, there isn't
any. I lie, there is just one thing that was accurate:
The Imperial Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor, Dec.
7th, 1941. Everything else is waaaaaaaaaaaaay off...

Another, perhaps socially irresponsible point is that
the inhabitants of Hawaii are invariably white. The
only asians are Japanese spies, Japanese American
stooges and a single token asian american sailor...

Summary: Better than I thought, but still not great
Review: I didn't expect to like this movie. I heard it was miserable, but I liked Josh Hartnett in Black Hawk Down, so I rented it. I liked it better than I thought I would. The first part of the movie, the boring romance between Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale, couldn't keep my interest. The scenes of the Japanese planning the attack were useless. Then Ben Affleck did the best thing he could have done in a film: He died. Hartnett and Beckinsale convinced me much more than Affleck did, and I found myself getting interested. I don't know about history, so I can't judge on historical accuracies, but it's impossible to tell the whole story of Pearl Harbor. You have to have some angle, but honestly, I would rather have gotten rid of Ben Affleck altogether, seen the story through the eyes of the nurse played by Beckinsale and the pilot played by Hartnett. That might be my personal preference, but those characters were the ones that held my interest. Ben Affleck was as usual, Ben Affleck. He hasn't interested me since Chasing Amy.

Summary: Watch this movie!!!
Review: I just watched the movie again and it is even more powerful than when I saw it when it came out. I have to say though that once I saw it the first time, I said to my friends "No one would ever try and attack us again" The movie came out before 9/11 so neither I (or anyone) had any idea what was about to happen. There is one exchange between Affleck's character and his British commander that really sticks out. He says that "Alot of people frown on the yanks for not joining this war but if there are more like you back at home, then God help anyone who goes to war with America." That gave me a sense of American pride like never before. It's odd how we can now relate to this movie because like what happened on Dec 7 1941 that sent the US into war. The events of Sept 11 2001 did the same.

If you haven't seen it yet, do. It will really move you.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: Although this would have made a great science fiction film, it was billed as being based on a true event -- Pearl Harbor. Maybe their overdoing of everything was to appeal to a younger generation of movie-goers, but this epic is executed like an over-budgeted music video. Why oh why didn't Jerry Bruckheimer make this movie like Black Hawk Down (which had some of the same actors and a similar 'military tragedy' plotline). However, two stars are deserved SOLELY for the hospital scene, which I thought was excellent, yet it was only a small fraction of the film.

Summary: 186 minutes I'll never get back.
Review: I'd give it less if I could.
I can't believe I wasted 3 hours of my life on this. thankfully, I paid nothing to see this film. I kept waiting for it to get going. then, everything happens in one predictable flury of events and then it ends.

The following should be read in the cynical tone intended:

This is Hollywood predictability at it's Best. Lets start with The 2 main characters flying playing "chicken" getting confused and at the last minute pulling it through for an oh so thrilling near hit. THIS won't show up later in the film, no!
ok, then Ben Affleck Dies (hurray!) but, wait. he can't die he's the star and he's only been in the movie for about 20 minutes. Then His best friend, Josh Hartnett hits on his girl! Didn't see that coming either. Wow, and the sex scence in the dimly lit parachutes. how freakin' original. Then Ben comes back and shrugs his pal. how could he after all they've been through together?
(I'm using their real names not the charcters names for it doesn't really matter what they're called in the movie. You can never get past that you are watching Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, for neither could act enough to make you believe they are someone else)
Then the 2 make up the night before the day on infamy. good thing too cause they are the ONLY TWO PIOLTS LEFT WHO CAN FLY AND SCARE AWAY THE ENTIRE JAPANESE FLEET!!!!!

After watching the movie I came to a conclusion that it must be in Ben Affleck's Contract that he can not die. He lived through Armagedon(I almost didn't) and here He crashes twice, is shot at numerous times and still out lives his best freind, Josh, who takes a bullet for him goes home and raises Josh's Son and marries the girl. Josh Hartnett needs a better manager to say he gets to live and gets the girl.

And lets not forget the fine acting by veteran actors Alec Baldwin and Jon Voigt (Alec hasn't done anything good since BettleJuice and Jon Voigt, well Give me Deliverance. Jon Voigt is as believable as Roosevelt as Kevin Cosnter was as JFK. They should of found the guy who played Roosevelt in Annie-the 1981 version)
Then there's the carnage done in full hollywood gore. Except the pretty young nurse who just got engaged, she had time to get her hair and makeup done before she died.

This movie was beyond Terrible. They made Pearl Harbor look like a victory for the USA. WE GOT OUR [REAR ENDS] KICKED

If you going to Write a romance around a war. create a war or keep it accurate and don't name it Pearl Harbor.

As for editing. It was supposedly up for and possibly won an oscar. I found it choppy and at one point where Ben is holding Kate with her head on his shoulder. the cameras jump back and forth from different angles to find Kates head on a different shoulder in each shot. So much for the academy's keen eyes for this sort of thing. The editors should of chopped off about an hour. That may of made this movie a bit more tolerable or at least not be as much of a waste of time.

I really hope I gave enough away to keep anyone who hasn't from watching this.

I wasted Three Hours of my life. I don't think the war lasted as long as this movie did. By the middle of the war, I was laughing. Anyone who found this movie surprising really needs to get out more. And anyone who thinks it was accurate needs to read a history book.

Summary: come on now...
Review: They made the trailer look all sweet like it was going to a good war movie, I was expecting something along the lines of "Saving Private Ryan" <--great movie by the way, but this was total [junk], it wasn't a war movie, it was a cheesy, mediocre love story with a little bit of action in between. Why do you think they rated it PG-13? I think it's so "everyone" could go see it, to make tons of money, and not offend anyone (except for those of us with taste)
