Summary: Dramatic Epic of Incredible Proportions
Review: This film is not the typical war movie with blood, guts, and glory for a couple of hours. This movie begins by developing relationships and a love triangle that ends in dramatic heroism centered around the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Although the movie is about a half hour too long (running time: 3 hours exactly), the cinematography is incredible with a number of aerodynamic shots and incredible scenery, not to mention the storyline about brotherhood and love. Overall, this film is a must-see. Be prepared to sit for 3 hours as the story unfolds, but timing is everything, and this film takes advantage of every minute.

Summary: As Good As It Gets ...
Review: I saw Pearl Harbor on the opening night. I was pumped and excited, I thought the war was going to go on through out the movie, but my expectations changed from one thing to another in a matter of minutes. I was totally unexpecting the plot we were given.The war scenes -- Absolutely fantastic. Ben Affleck (playing Rafe), and his best friend Daniel play their roles to a "t". I have now found my new favorite movie. I can't wait for the DVD of this movie. If you like American history or war movies, see this. I believe that almost everyone who sees it will enjoy it. The others are in denial.

Summary: Could've, Should've
Review: The special effects were good, although my goosebumps came from seeing the Japanese planes streaking in low, before the torpedos were launched. Was there a decision to budget more for special effects and less for good acting? Jon Voight was good but guess I wanted more angst before sending our guys off on the risky mission to bomb Toyoko. Alec Baldwin's portrayal of Doolittle was very lame. I did like Josh Hartnett a lot and look forward to future movies with him, Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale, all three young and beautiful, albiet inexperienced in life's real hardships. I probably won't see this movie twice. Could've, should've been better.

Summary: "Pearl Harbor"
Review: This an excellent movie. It's so much like "Titanic", it's hard to miss. Even if the love trianle wasn't very romantic, it was endearing. I think this is the best film ever when it comes to the forty minute reenactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Even though the Japanese are of an entirely different race and nationailty, it shouldn't have been pointed out so harshly. Anyone could have done what was done at Pearl Harbor. I mean, if a certain European country did that during the war, like Germany or Italy, would White Americans still be as racist? I wouldn't think so. The love song for "Pearl Harbor", Faith Hill's "There You'll Be" is beautiful. World War II veterans will very much remember December 7, 1941 and everything that followed it. This movie is definitely for those veterans and I hope that they had gotten a chance to see it or plan to see it. One more thing, when "Saving Private Ryan" came out three years ago, Toms Hanks announced that there was to be a World War II memorial but I haven't heard about it recently. Please, people, World War II veterans need a memorial to be remembered and honored for fighting for American freedom. And please, please, please, go watch "Pearl Harbor" today!

Summary: The Film is good as it is.
Review: I found Pearl Harbor to be a mostly good film with it's fair share of strengths and weakness. The strengths are in the actuall attack on Pearl itself. Very well done and very accurate, and the performance by Jon Voight as FDR is the film's strongest performance in so far as acting goes. The love story triangle between the three characters played by Ben, Josh, and Kate is a bit weak in some areas, but I think their acting is better then most give them credit for. The music score by Hans Zimmer is very strong (I think they even put in some themes from the music scores of Tora,Tora,Tora, and Midway in some places too), and the effects work by ILM is among the best they have ever done, at least for a non-science fiction film. In the end, I mostly did like this film. It's better then most people give it credit for and certainly better filmed and plotted then Titanic (which is absolute garbage) ever was.

Review: Despite the remarks of a few (hmmm?) critics, Pearl Harbor was an excellent portrayal of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Despite the outstanding realistic special effects, the film was able to develop and expound on good character development. The test of any film is having those who have seen the movie tell others they "must go see it!". This is such a film. MC Clabaugh

Summary: Tora Tora Tora, revisited
Review: The controversy rages on: just what did the U.S. government know, and just exactly when did they know it? The more this tale is told, the more you just have to ask, "Who won?" Most amusing is that more money was spent making this film than was spent on the war itself. What have we come to, anyway? Was is not healthy for children, or other living things.

Summary: Another Hollywood epic
Review: If you liked Hollywood's version of the Titanic disaster, then this should be the movie for you. The film industry missed other opportunity to entertain AND to educate. For a better treatment of the event see "Tora, Tora, Tora" or for how an event with a 1000 individual dramas can be successfully treated, see the movie "Battle of Britain". The Rafe character was just too preposterous for words. Not only did he fight in Britain as part of the American Eagle squadron, he was also one of the pilots who managed to get airborne and shoot down some of the 7 Japanese planes destroyed by American fighters, then he took part in the Doolittle raid flying BOMBERS. I'm surprised he did not drop the A-bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima too! Since this movie cost so much, why couldn't they spend a few extra dollars and have some different actors, maybe even stars, play separate vignettes of these occurences instead of hanging it all on Ben Afleck. By the way, the book "Day of Infamy" by Walter Lord is an easy read and you can get the real story too.

Summary: Gripping, well-acted, and historically accurate!
Review: Pearl Harbor is a great movie, and I'll tell you why. First and foremost, the action sequence is absolutely phenomenal. Lasting an hour or more, it is absolutely heart-pounding. The camera's vantage point is incredible..as it puts you in the cockpit of a P-40 Warhawk struggling to get airborne and fend off the Zeros, it puts you on the tail fin of bomb striking the Arizona, or in the wake of a torpedo. I've read a few books on the topic, and from what I've read the movie is historically accurate: 6 Japanese carriers, yellow noses of the BF-109's from JG27 squadron in the battle of Britain,etc... Especially interesting is the issue "Did we know the attack was coming?" I thought this was accurately and fairly presented. Also interesting was Admiral Kimmel. From a historical perspective, I thought the movie was good, and has inspired me to read a few new books on the topic such as about Kimmel, Doolitle's Raid, or the Eagle squadron of American pilots in the Battle of Britain. The plot...well, you know the story of Pearl Harbor, no suprises here. The human interest is a love triangle between two best-friend pilots and a Navy nurse -- I mean terribly unique and only 1 twist-turn. But the whole thing is well-told and unfolds in an interesting manner. Ben Afleck, what can I say, a great actor, and he carries the lead role well. Overall, this is a great movie. See it. Buy it on DVD when it comes out.

Summary: Ouch
Review: Michael Bay is a man of little talent trying so hard to get us all to like him and his "art". Michael Bay does not create "art". Pearl Harbor is an amalgam of every big movie we've already seen over the past five years, from the obvious rip offs of Titanic and Saving Private Ryan to the more subtle ones from ID4 and yes, it's true, Forrest Gump. He may learn after this that standing on the shoulders of others to make more money isn't a good idea without the talent to use it. It's very sad that he had to abuse such a tragedy as Pearl Harbor to satisfy his need for a money making machine. Stay clear.
