Rating: Summary: wow! what a great movie Review: I just can't imagine how come some people would care to give this a 1 star rating where in fact its one of the great movie that I've seen. for me this movie tell about the life of 2 young US army pilots who fell in love with a young army nurse and unfortunately ben afflick decided to join as volunteer to fight in Britain until he was shot down to the sea, and was thought to be dead until he turn out to be alive instead. What inspire me to see this movie was the bombing of pearl harbor by the japanese mitsubishi zero planes, the scene here was magnificent, the special effort was good, this movie would cheer you up when its time for America to retaliate against Japan by bombing Tokyo with B-25 bombers under the command of Gen Doolittle. For sure I would be happy to wait for this to come out on dvd and its worth to own one of this movie.
Rating: Summary: Nothing of value here.... Review: I saw this film at a mall theatre in the philippines which is most fiting because that country was raped and pillaged by the japanese in the war. Not that historical accuracy means anything in this movie. "Pearl harbor" represents commericalism at it's very worst. Nothing wrong with making a buck but this movie was made and edited in such a way to not offend anybody and great art almost always offends somebody. They didn't want the film to be too patriotic so it wouldn't turn off non americans. They didn't want to portray the japanese too harshly because they wanted the movie to sell there. There had to be a really stupid sappy love story to appeal to the teeny bobbers the way titanic did. So much effort was placed in this movie to appeal the the maximum number of people that nothing is left of redeeming value. Why bother to watch a movie about this most important historical event that cares little for history or patriotism? But they did manage to offend some people. Veterans of world war two and most veteran groups find this film offensive and many recommend that the movie be boycotted. I agree. Now even a misguided movie like this can provide some entertainment. Mississippi burning was a similarly misguided movie but it had some value because of the classic good v evil story line and a great performance by gene hackman. That's not the case here. Both leading men are terribly unconvincing and ben affleck's rafe(rafe?) was comletely dull. Kate beckinsale gives the best performance considering how shallow her character is written. Fact is the writing for the whole film is pathetic. The love story is dumber than dumb as beckinsale's squeeze rafe, gets shot down in europe and is presumed dead. Naturally ben's best buddy(played by josh hannah) moves in and knocks up beckinsdale just before our hunky leading man shows up not so dead after all. And we're supposed to care? Don't worry though because this moronic love story only consumes 2 hours of the movie. That's all. Then we get to that little incidental event of the japanese attack. The action portrayed isn't bad and you can't help but be relieved to see the story move in another direction. Our two studly heros forget about their tense romantic conflict just long enough to hop in a couple of planes and kick some butt while beckinsale and her babe nurse cohorts save lives below. It's all so exciting. When the dust clears 3000 americans are dead but you won't be moved because of the plastic video game presentation. Now apparently mr. bay et al fiqured the movie was lacking at this point so they decided on depicting dolittle's raid on tokyo. Dolittle is depicted by that great patriot himself alec baldwin whose performance isn't too bad. Again history is a little fuzzy here but it provides our heroic leading men an opportunity to be, well, heroic. Unfortunately the josh harnett character doesn't survive the attack and we are supposed to feel sad. Don't worry you won't. Great movies make you feel something. The only thing you will feel from watching this movie is that you wish you didn't waste your hard earned money on it. Titanic was the main blue print for this film. Take a love story and entwine it with a real life tragedy. Titanic suceeded because there were some real gut wrenching moments. Not in "pearl harbor". As for beckindale and afflecks romance? Well they get back together of course. And Ben, rafe,(rafe?) agrees to raise his buddy's kid. Why should anyone care? Finally there is one good thing about this film. The music is great and the faith hill theme song is quite good. .....................socks
Rating: Summary: I Love Pearl Harbor Review: I have to say this is the best movie I have ever seen. Without the amazing love story, it would have been one more documentary, this movie attracts all ages! I have seen it four times, and will continue to see it until it comes out. It is wonderful, and I love it so much! I love Ben Affleck as well! GREAT JOB!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: Before I went to see the movie, I hadn't read any of the reviews. After seeing it and coming home to read reviews, I was very disappointed! "Never judge a book by its cover". To many people have taken the name of Pearl Harbor and made expectations. I personally think the movie would have been boring if all it was was historical. If you truely want something historical with all correct fatcs, go watch a documentary! Movies are meant to entertain, and moat people find romance and action entertaining! This movie was a huge tear-jerker for me. It was so touching and even though it may not have been all the facts, it completely gave me and idea of what the people in that war must have been feeling. Isn't that something important? As for relating the movie to a "Titanic wannabe", it may have similarities to the Titanic movie, but not really that much. So they both are romances in a tragic event. Many movies have similar themes. I don't think PH should be put down for this either. I personally thin that this movie was much better than Titanic. In fact, it is one of my favorite movies! I would go see it again, and I am definitely going to buy it when it comes out! Every minute I spent in that theater was worth it! Oh, and the theme song by Faith Hill, is excellent. Faith has a wonderful voice, and the words tell the story of the movie all over again.
Rating: Summary: The best movie this year!!!! Review: I saw the movie for the first time last week and two days later I saw it again. It was the best movie I have seen this year and I go to the movies once a week. The love triangle made the movie more interesting. I also liked how they lead up to the bombing and showed what happened after it too. It was truly a GOOD movie.
Rating: Summary: It Was Alright Review: Pearl Harbor was not really what I expected. I thought it would be more like Saving Private Ryan, but it was really a love story that happened to have a backdrop of WWII. It started out wonderfully with Ben Affleck's character, Rafe, courting Kate's character--Evelyn. I really loved the beginning of the movie because of Affleck's character...the love triangle just really irritated me. How long should you grieve for a lover? Then the war scene sort of dragged because you really want Rafe and Danny to hurry up and get into planes & start fighting back, but it takes a while. It wasn't boring, but I was saying, "come on! hurry up! do something!" I thought the end of the movie could've been better, but that's because I'm a romantic...it ended quite ironically...but I think it could have been more impactful. As stated earlier, Pearl Harbor is more of a love story than a war story. If you're thinking it will be like Saving Private Ryan--don't. I gave it 4 stars because the acting was superb and I really felt rapped up in the characters. I think the movie would play better on a big screen for those who like action. The plane scenes were pretty awesome. But, it is a love story, so, if you're a romantic...you gotta see it.
Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor is fly! Review: If you're wanting to see an excellent, action-packed, romantic drama that rocks, go see Pearl Harbor. It has two of the hottest guys around and a pretty girl for them to fight over! The story line, that has a crazy, romantic love triangle and of course the sadness of Pearl Harbor, really keeps your attention. The reality of the story is very touching and it made me love Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett even more! Just a warning though...if you see it once, you'll definitely have to see it again!!
Rating: Summary: If you like war movies, you should like most of this one Review: I saw "Pearl Harbor" last night at the theatres and I don't know about everybody else, but I thought it was a good movie. "Pearl Harbor" might not be a 100% accurate movie about what actually took place at Pearl Harbor, but to me, that doesn't really matter. I also liked "U-571" a lot and everybody said it wasn't that accurate either. In my opinion, "Pearl Harbor" has almost everything going for it. It has some GREAT special effects, an engaging storyline, and a love story on the side. My only complaint about "Pearl Harbor" is that it has too much of a love story thrown into it. Not that I don't like love stories, but I was expecting "Pearl Harbor" to have a lot more action, bombing attacks, etc., instead of being mostly a tangled up love story. However, once the actual attack on Pearl Harbor began, I was glued to the theatre screen and it was hard to even blink. Once the movie was over and it was time for me and my dad to go to the car and head back home, I couldn't believe that the movie lasted 3 hours. The 45-minute attacks from the Japanese was so interesting and captivating that it didn't seem like it lasted nearly that long, I wish that it could've lasted even longer! "Pearl Harbor" the movie gave me more respect for the people who went through the real-life attack on Pearl Harbor. If you like war movies at all, don't wait for this movie to come out on video or television, go to the theatre and see it now for the full effect! To make it short, if you like love stories, then great, you'll definitely like "Pearl Harbor." If you're like me and you like seeing a lot of action and great special effects, go to the theatre and watch this movie just for the awesome 45-minute attack sequence! You won't be disappointed either way.
Rating: Summary: let's be reasonable Review: Everybody seems to have mixed feelings towards this movie- some say it was the best, while some say it is disrespectful and irrevelent to what really happened, and that it is cliché, etc. Ok, let's be reasonable- if the movie were only about the war, it wouldn't be a movie, it would be a documentary and probably wouldn't be 3 hours long. The movie is surely not disrepectful to what really happened in december 7, in fact it is very respectful....there were no jokes, no music playing and no censoring. what they played really happened......the story between the three stars is true cliché, and leaves you with that "deja vú" feeling, you know.....girl meets boy. boy falls for girl and vice-versa. boy and girl start going out and immediately all those couple scenes start playing showing what couples do and just showing us how cute they look together. Boy#2 goes in. Girl falls for boy #2. Girl becomes confused and in doubt. There is a conflict between the boys. something happens ( usually tragic). BOOM. we've all seen that before, but anyone who is careful to notice that it is cliché should be able to notice that the story and the character's feelings go way beyond that. Their anguish mixes with the anguish others in the movie suffered and so does there pain and there isolation and confusion. everything is a big metaphor.....I personally liked this movie, however some downsides to it is that it is a bit too patriotic ( then again, what can u expect from USA?) and that they portray the Japanese as being the bad guys ( so they might appear as the good guys) when in fact no one is to blame for what occured.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: After reading some of the reviews that gave this movie poor ratings, I can't help wondering about thier concept of a what a movie is. If they want the facts and only the facts, they should see a documentary or read an history book. I suppose these reviewers would also hate "Gone with the Wind", since it wasn't based strictly on historical fact! If someone is interested in GREAT entertainment based on a historical event then they really should see "Pearl Harbor".
