Rating: Summary: Great movie! Review: I don't care what the critics say, they were way too harsh on Pearl Harbor. This movie was good! I think a lot of people had TOO high of expectations, and of course you set yourself up for let down when you do that. True, this movie wasn't JUST about War, it also tried to appeal to the females also. It incorporated a love story to keep some of the women interested. That is a hard thing to do. I like war/romances. I learned a whole lot MORE about Pearl Harbor and the bombing than I even cared to remember in my high school history class years ago. I think this movie did what it was supposed to do. It entertained people, and it made people REMEMBER what happend in Hawaii 60 years ago. Plus, a LOT of the veterans LOVED this movie, and were even crying in the audience. I think this movie was excellent, and a very entertaining piece of work. With the Sept. 11th events, I have an even greater appreciation of this movie. I can't wait untill it comes on DVD!! It also includes some REAL historical footage/accounts for those of you history buffs out there. :-)
Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor Review: Pearl Harbor is a very exictind and well shot film with lots of special affects. It is about two best friends (Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) who two fighter plane pilot and they are both in love with the same girl (Kate Beckinsale). It is very good but is quite sad during the attack on Pearl Habor and at the end of the film. Igive it 5 stars because it is one of the best films I have ever seen before.
Rating: Summary: A must see poorly reviewed by critics Review: Pearl Harbor was a top notch movie that did bad in the box office because people listened to reviews that were poorly stated. You can tell that the worked very hard on the movie and it has wonderfully choragraphed computer graphics that really makes you feel like you are there most of the time. I warn you that even though it is based on the bombbing of Pearl Harbor more than Titanic was based on the ship, the love story is a big part of the movie. It is a beautiful love story but some aren't into that. All in all, it was a wonderful movie.
Rating: Summary: uhhh ok Review: Stunning graphics, loud booms, a hot lead star, and an over riding love story; sound like another movie...say Titanic? I thought so too. It starts out kinda weird, leaving you to wonder..um did i stumble into the wrong theater? Is this a chick flick with the whole love story thing, but then it's like all of a sudden it's like the writers remember, oh yeah there's a war going on, then it's like on man we forgot to end that whole love story thing, then it's like well let's drag it out abit, then BAM!! tadah! the end..leaving me to say uhhh ok...
Rating: Summary: History in the Movies Review: The film was lengthy but entertaining. It captured my attention fully because it showed you the behind-the-war scenes where you saw the reality of what the war did to families. You could see yourself associating with one of the characters. It gave me a sense of pride watching the loyalty and patriotism people had then. What I missed in the history books I was able to view it on the screen. Finally, romance was involved and I enjoy movies where there is romance.
Rating: Summary: Bay Strikes Again! Review: I feel embarrased because I actually thought that action schlock director Michael Bay might actually do something good with this film. The only thing he did was bore viewers senseless and embarras the heroes of Pearl Harbor with this overblown turkey bomb. Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett are okay, but you really don't care for them or their characters. The romance is so flimsily written and acted, you almost feel sorry for the actors involved. Brilliant cinematic gems like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Titanic" have nothing to worry about. The dialogue is so juvenile and cliche. You almost cringe sometimes. The action is good, but the effects aren't all that great either. The only decent thing about this joke is Jon Voight's performance, and the loveliness of Kate Beckinsale. The filmmakers tried so hard for a monumental film, but they didn't know how to go about doing it. The people who rave this film have, obviously, been fooled horribly. When the credits roll, you'll let out a huge sigh of relief. If you want real majestic beauty and emotion, go re-watch both of the movies I mentioned above. They are the ones who got it right. This was the biggest disappointment of the year hands down.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie! Review: I watched Pearl Harbor when it was out on theaters. I must say that it was a great movie. The creditenials of the historical events are accurate. There are two scenes in Pearl Harbor that are my favorite. The scene were Rafe and Danny fly the airplanes and shoot the Japenese down! The save the day! That was so cool. The other scene is very sad. Rafe and Danny are looking around, and the men are stuck inside of the ship. Danny or Rafe touches one of the men's hand, and anyone couldn't do anything about getting them out of the ship. I cannot wait to purchase Pearl Harbor. It is a great movie even if have some problems with the love story.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: The makers of this film squandered an opportunity to use modern film making technology to chronicle for a new generation one of history's most compelling stories. Instead, we got a trite love story/soap opera and a ridiculous series of events with the lead character (Ben Affleck) fighting the Battle of Britain, fighting the Japanese at Pearl Harbor (while reminding me of scenes and dialog from TOP GUN), and then bombing Tokyo. As a career Naval Aviator and student of history, I found the events depicted in a manner so inaccurate (read: "Hollywood") as to be insulting to the participants. I found the choice of Alec Baldwin to play Col. Dolittle especially revolting. There would have been more than enough drama in the truthful and accurate representation of some of the most significant events in our history...it's a shame the makers chose to make a film of this disappointing caliber.
Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor (an objective view on history) Review: As a generation X'er I must say that war movies of our time top the "John Wayne" sterotypical era. This movie doesn't insult or cut down the Japanese. It depicts that moment in history objectively with romance, politics, and awesome action sequences. With this movie a five star rating comes with two words "Jerry Bruckheimer"
Rating: Summary: 30-year-old female's opinion Review: FINALLY! A chick-flick and action-movie mix that my husband and I can both enjoy! There was just enough of each to keep us both interested. We loved this movie! It gave an entertaining and partially historical look at what things may have been like for the people during the bombing at Pearl Harbor. It also included a great love triangle. I highly recommend this movie!
