Summary: Not a bad movie for a really boring sunday afternoon
Review: The sights of Egypt were people. The costumes were believeable and nicely done. The music was touching. However, the story itself was really botched. I am a fan of Cleopatra's. I generally can not even compare it to former movies done about this group of historical figures. To the director, please stop trying to change history. It's really sucks when you try to improve on the orginial. The acting wasn't two bad by the men but as for the lead female. She lost me.

Summary: She just cannot act.
Review: Hi,

This movie is bad. Well, actually, as said before the sets and costumes are good, but Leonor Varela, who plays Cleopatra, quite simply CANNOT act...not even if her life depended on it. She might look nice but every time she said something I felt like "oh...not again"...instead of spending all that money on the sets, they should have gotten a better lead and thought a little more about the script. Billy Zane was good though...which earned it a second star.

Summary: A diversion: Nothing more; Nothing less
Review: ...

Timothy Dalton did give an excellant portrayal of Julius Caesar and did his best with the script he had to work from. Billy Zane was better than adequate, but suspect strongly that the women viewers enjoyed his portrayal more than the male viewers did. That's okay, because I enjoyed watching Leonor more than I imagine most women did. LOL I do think she's blamed for a poor performance when the fault was quite likely more with the script than her acting. She's no Elizabeth Taylor or Claudette Colbert, but I thought she was adequate for a TV portrayal.

I give this three stars because it didn't strike me as a BAD movie. And for those really devoted to different versions of Cleopatra's life will want it. There's enough sex and violence to titilate those looking for that.

However, I believe that most viewers will find either the Elizabeth Taylor or Claudette Colbert versions more worthwhile.

Summary: Wrong History, but if you like cheesy entertainment, see it
Review: Well, if your just looking for cheesy entertainment, then this would be good for you. I on the other hand was offended on how Queen Cleopatra was portrayed, as a whiney ignorant girl who doesn't know how to run a country. When on the contrary, Cleopatra was one of the best rulers Egypt ever had. From a young age, she knew more than her predecessor, King Ptolemy. This movie also did not include her other brother, Ptomlemy, the younger, of whom she also married. And all of the other information was pretty hazy. So although the poor history in this movie is degrading to all egyptologists like myself, I thought I would watch it, just for kicks. ~Enjoy

Summary: average glossy melodrama
Review: This new TV version of CLEOPATRA is only a mildly-entertaining new spin on the age-old story.

Leonor Varela gives an average performance as the Egyptian queen; her acting style rarely raises above the high-school play level; but she is quite affecting in the role in certain scenes, however these are few and far between.

Timothy Dalton and Billy Zane hold up their ends as the two men in Cleopatra's life (Caesar and Marc Antony respectively). Dalton adds his weight to the often mindless and trite dialogue, while Zane gets a genuine feeling for the material and impresses often with his dramatic style.

Based on the book "The Memoirs of Cleopatra" by Margaret George, this mini-series has been compared unfairly to the 1960's Elizabeth Taylor version (which I consider vastly superior).

Summary: I Call Upon The Real Cleopatra
Review: Well this made for TV cleopatra was ok i guess. Mind you i have added this to my collection of cleo video's but still waiting for someone in Hollywood to come up with a more real version.

The REAL cleopatra was not overly beautiful, she was politically motivated in keeping egypt together, but unfortunetly she was about the last of the great rulers of that nation.

Maybe in the next five to ten years or so a director might decide to do another one this time more real and true to the real queen, after all she deserves that much.

"Oh to sail up (or down) the Hap (Nile) on a summer afternoon with fine wine and company is a luxury." *sigh*

Summary: A definite NO for kids
Review: The story of Cleopatra is one full of adventure, romance and killing, unfortunately this video shows those things too well. We got this video in hopes it would be educational and entertaining but the results we found were slightly different. The movie contains graphic killing, brief nudity and unappropriate situations. The movie however, is one that was very well made. I just wish they could have rated it and not left it to the viewer's discretion. In my rating system this movie would be between PG-13 and R. This movie is excellent, but just has a few flaws. So if kids are going to watch this make sure they have extreme parental guidance.

Summary: Cleopatra
Review: The problem with this film, no matter how good the cast is your using, you can't tell an epic story of this magnitude on the small screen! You have the weight of Burton and Taylor on your shoulders in one of MGM's biggest ever productions and your gonna sink if it's done for a cable release before you have even got started. The effects to make it look like they are in Egypt just hamm the whole thing up, and as a result the story is mainly told from tiny sets. Dalton as ever pulls out the stops no matter where he is and he has a good supporting cast to help him do it! However if you don't have the proper financial and production backing, don't mess with epic tales!!

Summary: It was OK
Review: It was ok except some parts were cut out of the movie from the end. I saw the whole movie, but parts were missing from the video. If you want swiss cheese, look here.

Summary: Good one!
Review: I have to say that I enjoyed this version much more than I did the Liz Taylor version. I don't say that just because this version was shorter. I thought the acting, costumes and settings were better. To quote from the end of Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleopatra," "Was this well done?" "Very well done."
