Summary: BRILLIANT TV SERIES
Review: I am very interested in anything regarding english king Henry VIII because apparently my family in in relations with his third wife Jane Seymour. I remember watching this series when it was shown on TV and I can say it is fantastic! Brilliant acting, directing, atmosphere and costumes, make us relive that exciting era. There is a shorter version as tv movie, but the only way to go is the whole series preferably on DVD!

Summary: the lifes of six queens of england
Review: If you have ever liked anne of a thousand days you will most certinley love this mini series In every movie they explore one of old king harry vIII wives , the good thing about this series is that it tries its best to give you an accurt acount of every singal wife , i was very empresed by the beautiful acting of the wivws in partcular dorothy tutin who played the role of the doomed anne boleyn she even exceled genavev bujold in anne of a thousand days , i also was impresed by elvs hale who acted as henry's fourth wife anne of cleves (the most fourtunite of the lot) who really had good humor , i do think the series was low bujet but honestly that did not really mind with the fine acting and lavish costums . i thought the best of the movies was jane seymour but my favourites where anne boleyn catherine parr and catherine howard ,i really do think you should like to buy this if you really are intereasted in the king and his wives , you most know that the series focuses more on the wifes more than the king but any way i believ you will enjoy it .

Summary: See It!
Review: Yes, see it! I thought it was a great and wonderful docu-drama. It seemed pretty accurate to me, now after reading much about this time. I recommend the writings of Mary Luke about this historical period. Keith Michell was excellent as Henry VIII. The portrayal of the king and his mannerism's, even the smallest gesture, I thought were superb. And yes, I too was quite impressed with all the actresses who portrayed Henry's wives. Really good period music too, I could have enjoyed more of it. High marks too for the actors who depicted Cromwell, Cramner, Gardiner, and Norfolk. Everyone was very good. This is what TV SHOULD be. See it, and read about it, fascinating times.

Summary: Excellent acting by Keith Mitchell
Review: This is a wonderful series. Each play is a little different and the performances are top-notch. I didn't find the pace to be too slow. The simple sets didn't bother me either. This is theatre not Hollywood. The performances are the focus (costumes too!). Keith Mitchell is amazing as Henry VIII. He IS Henry VIII. He portrays the king as a tyrant but also as a human being. You see him as a lonely pitiful man, especially towards the end of his life. Each of the six actresses playing the queens are also excellent. This series is totally engrossing and will make you laugh. I love the scene where he is hoisted up on his horse with a pulley because he is too fat and lame to mount it himself. The wedding night scenes are also great. Funny!

Summary: very good!
Review: I thought this movie was good. The acting of Keith Mitchell ( Henry VIII ) was absolutlely fantastic! The makeup was intense. To see the transformation of Henry go from a young healthy prince to an old and diseased king was haunting. All of the six wives kept my attention and the performances were applaudable. I'm not an expert, but I have read several books on the king and it seems that these films stay true to history. Well worth the money it costs. The only reason I did not give this film 5 stars is simply because the set designs were sometimes poorly done. They could have spent a little more on that, but overall great films!

Summary: Terrific costuming and performances though a touch slow
Review: The series is a delight for anyone interested in the Tudor period. It covers each of Henry's wifes which not only provides insight into the women, but into the king himself.

John Woodnutt is superb as Henry. Each of the actresses playing his wives gives unique performances which accentuates the differences in the women.

I found the entire piece riviting, but I am draw by most anything Tudor. In all honesty, there are some slow spots in the production. This is especially sad given the short time they spend on each wife.

The series lacks much of the historical background and political nature of each marriage. However, I believe time limits, it is impossible to portray the full picture. Antonia Fraser and Alison Weir both have excellent books on the subject.

If for no other reason, anyone interested in costuming of the Tudor period will find this a wonderful resource. The outfits are stunning. Many outfits can easily be identify from portraits of the era.

Summary: I can't believe it!!
Review: How can people actually praise this series????? It was awful! The acting, writing, set design and overall production was horrible!! The only thing they got right was the history and that's displayed in monotonous and uninteresting plotlines.I find it awfully amusing that all the reviews came from Americans.Come on people-it may be hard to believe but there are better series out there!

Summary: Keith Mitchell is a fantastic Henry VIII
Review: I'm surprised that none of the reviews prior to this one mentioned Keith Mitchell's exceptional performance as Henry VIII. You saw him portray Henry from his youth when was a handsome, athletic, scholarly and pious prince to his later years as an obese, repugnant, evil and diseased monarch. You cannot believe that this is the same person, as his evolution goes from one extreme to the other. This transition could not have been carried out by a lesser actor.

I subtract only one star for the low quality of the production itself, but the acting was superb by Mitchell and the ladies that portrayed his six queens. Many of these actors are famous within the British theatre but unfortunately not as well known as some of our Hollywood stars. They should be recognized for their fine efforts, including Dorothy Tutin. She gave the most haunting performance of Henry's second wife, Anne Bolyen, who was executed on trumped up charges of adultery so Henry could marry Jane Seymour, his third queen.

This series truly succeeds in showing what a sick and evil monster that Henry VIII was. He executed so many for such minor offenses and he committed so much evil to beget a male heir. You can almost breathe a sigh of relief when he dies, almost as if you, yourself are spared from the executioner's block.

I must also highly recommend the companion series, "Elizabeth R", about the life of Queen Elizabeth I. She was the only child he had with Anne Boleyn and her reign was the most illustrious in English history. This six part series is also available from Amazon.com.

Summary: Stunning performances and fascinating inside look at history
Review: I just rented the entire series from my local library after renting "Anne of a Thousand Days." Every episode is beautifully written and acted. My favorite episodes were Anne of Cleves and Katherine Carr. Henry and all six wives are depicted sympathetically. The film focuses on the personal drama, but the historical and political backgrounds are entertainingly presented too. I loved it!
