Summary: The best fun war movie ever made!
Review: I've always thought the Dirty Dozen was and still is the most fun a person can have watching a war movie if that seems possible! Fortunately for me and by coincidence, about ten years ago, Clint Walker (Posey) became one of my best friends. I wish hollywood still made movies like this. Unfortunately, there just aren't the same kind of actors around anymore.

Summary: The Dirty Dozen
Review: In WW2, tough Major John Reisman (Lee Marvin) is assigned to train twelve convicted war criminals (whose sentences range from 20 years of imprisonment to death by hanging) into a fighting team that will go behind enemy lines in order to infiltrate a French Château full of German officers. In this, the criminals will be let off the hook and will be returned to their official ranks and duties. During training, Reisman argues with his rival Col. Breed (Robert Ryan) who believes that his squad, and not misfit criminals should be given the privilege to carry out this mission. The dirty dozen includes characterizations by John Cassavetes, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, Trini Lopez, Telly Savalas (in a sadistic role), Donald Sutherland, Clint Walker, Tom Busby, Ben Carruthers, and Colin Maitland.Though some of the character development is inconsistent, the film is nevertheless an extremely entertaining war movie that was original for it's time. There is humor, drama, and an explosive hit-and-run finale, making The Dirty Dozen a largely appealing war film. Biblical analogies and contradictory (if thats the right word) aspects of the mission are interesting as well. Overall rating: 4.8 stars (Rounded to 5) If you like this film, I would also recommend "Where Eagles Dare" This film is not rated: there is violence, moderate vulgarity, and intensity.

Summary: A Great War Movie
Review: It's a very good movie with plenty of action and humor. Stars Lee Marvin as Major John Reisman. He makes a great tough good guy! Kind of makes up for him playing people like Liberty Valance in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". He must take 12 murderous convicts out of the military prison and train them for a suicide mission in France. If any of them come back, they get pardoned. Some bad language, but it's easy to remember where it is once you've watched it, so you can mute it out if you don't want to hear it. Also stars Charles Bronson as Joseph Wladislaw. He is very good in his part. Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan also star as Army Generals. Once the mission starts, you are biting your nails the whole time! There are also funny parts like the "war games" and Wladislaw being interviewed by the Army psychiatrist. Definitely a very exciting and well done movie.

Summary: A tough-as-nails WW2 classic!
Review: Lee Marvin was just made for this role! Being a decorated WW2 vet he wasn't just acting in this classic! Add Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas, John Cassavetes, Donald Sutherland, & Clint Walker to the mix & you've got an "elite" group of psychos & killers that even would've scared [any dictator]! The movie is 2 1/2 hours but is never dull. There's great character development, plenty of humor, & big-time slaughter of [enemies] at the end! What more could you want from a war movie! For those who love WW2 behind-the-lines suspense, this is highly recommended.

Summary: The Guy Movie of All Guy Movies
Review: Let's face it -- The Dirty Dozen is a great war movie and a great action movie, but what it really is is the definitive Guy Movie. Why else would TBS show it every other week? The testosterone-soaked cameraderie among the dozen, and especially the bond they gradually forge with Lee Marvin's character, is profound enough to swear you off quiche forever. Highlights: John Cassavettes' entire Oscar-nominated performance (I like when Marvin says to him, "Look, stupid..." near the beginning), Donald Sutherland inspecting the troops, and Trini Lopez's abruptly swift climb up a rope. It's best on video, without all the breaks, and especially in widescreen, so you don't miss any reactions. Break open a cold one and enjoy!

Summary: Well Then...You Don't Know Victor Franco!
Review: Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) is not your average officer. Not by the book like most of those he serves with. One day he is called in to meet with Maj. General Worden (Ernest Borgnine)about a new operation. Take 12 of the U.S. Army's worst soldiers-psychopaths and killers and make then into a lean fighting unit in just several weeks. The catch is, if one of them goes AWOL, the deal is off and they are sent back to prison. Not to anyone's surprise, a couple think about it. But are stoped before they get out. Another hassel is Col. Breed (Robert Ryan), a entirely by the book, make sure someone higher ranking than me, see's me do something great officer. As the film moves along, the unit starts to form as one and the training gets harder. But is almost shut down thanks to Col. Breed. The Dirty Dozen then must enter in the war games to save themselves. Bad idea for the opposition since all 12 are clever in there own way! But the question that still stands for the dozen is, what are we going to do? There mission is to: parachute deep behind the Nazi lines and form up at a Nazi retreat the night before the D-Day Invasion. Once their, kill as many officers as possible and then destroy anything else that will cause the enemy to use it's troops behind enemy lines, instead of at the Normandy Beaches. After they get to the place in france it's do or die. How many will make it back, is something that you can't guess until you see it. With an outstanding cast that has: Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Donald Sutherland, Richard Jaeckel and John Cassavetes (Oscar Nominated Performance.) The Dirty Dozen was a huge hit in 1967 and remains popular and classic today! It is not just one of the best war films, but one of the best films made! It runs long but is worth it and moves at a fast pace. Nominated for Four Academy Awards: Supporting Actor (John Cassavetes), Editing, Sound, Sound Effect(Won) The Dirty Dozen is a must see classic that has be copied for years and still holds it's own!

Summary: A fine war/commandos film
Review: MY RATING- 8.1 This was a blockbuster about 12 murderers who have the chance to redeem theirselves training hard to destroy a nazi castle. Their briefing man and chief is the tough major Lee Marvin. I absolutely love his scenes with John Cassavetes!
The mov is really thrilling, not only the training part but also that brilliant climax of the attack to the castle. We actually struggle as they in the hard training sequences.
With an all star cast- Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland, George Kennedy and a little and brilliant performance by Telly Savalas.
Well, I adore war movs, but also commandos type, like this one and the castle part looks like the game Commandos.

Summary: Great acting... pretty good story...
Review: Okay, I have to say that they don't make movies like this anymore. There are many great actors in this film at the top of their form! This is reason enough to enjoy the movie! The story is good. It's well written and moves right along throughout the film. Unfortunately it suffers a bit from being too naturalistic. There are no consistant "heroes" in this movie but many heroic acts. I mean, lets face it, the characters are all convicted criminals! Some of them do redeem themselves somewhat by killing a bunch of Nazis and acting heroically to acchieve their mission so it's not completely bleak. Lee Marvin is fantastic!!!

Summary: The Dirty Dozen
Review: One of the best action movies ever! A classic for any generation and doesn't lose any of its appeal as the years go on. More of a "guy" movie which leads to my suggestion that this is a great father/son bonding movie (if there is one). Mainly because the movie contains so many stars for it's day and I could see a father telling his son who these celebrities were (Jim Brown for example) that made the flick so great while both enjoyed a good action movie.
