Rating: Summary: Glad to see Looney Tunes on DVD, but expected better Review: I was happy to see that Warner Brothers finally released a huge collection of the classic cartoons on DVD, but I must admit, I would like to have seen a better episode selection. There wasn't enough of the obscure, and hardly seen episodes. The majority of these episodes are either on the Cartoon Network, or previously released videos. Don't get me wrong....overall, I love about 93% of the cartoons on here. I just think they over did it with the Bugs Bunny episodes (24 or 25 I believe). That right there should have been a collection by itself, leaving 25 slots open for the more less seen episodes, or those Looney Tune classics that don't contain the main characters....(like the mouse versions of the Honeymooners, Ralph Phillips, the Three Little Bops, the Jack Benny Mouse episode, The bulldog who always said "what...no gravy", other gambling bug episodes, etc). Only very few of those types of cartoons made it to the collection. I've also never been much of a Tweety fan. Thankfully, there's only a few on there. But of the 3 or so that were put on there, there are other episodes that would have been better selections...(such as the Jeckyl and Hyde episode, or the much older/earlier ones). Hopefully if and when future volumes are released, my fingers are crossed that more obscure episodes are included.
Rating: Summary: At long last.... Review: Classic stuff, an answer to prayers. I know it sounds geeky, but looney tunes was my bread-and-butter as an early 80's TV baby, and now that I've got kids of my own it is so awesome to see these cartoons collected in such a great anthology. I am amazed at how I still laugh at the same 5 minute cartoons I've seen literally hundreds of times. I watch and can see how these brilliantly ridiculous cartoons literally shaped my sense of humor right up until this present day. Incredible. Yes, they left out some favorites, but how could they not? There's hundreds of great Looney Tunes, and I love em all. Can't wait for the next volume, I will definitely buy them all...
Rating: Summary: Thank you, Warner Bros! Review: A great selection of the best shorts -- but still leaving plenty of more jewels to come (hopefully) on future DVD sets. This DVD set has some of the better "extras" that you'll find anywhere. Messrs. Jones, Freleng, Blanc, McKimson, Stalling, Avery, Clampett, and Marese were absolute comedic geniuses and this DVD set does a fine job of putting it on display. The cartoons are all beautifully rendered. It's amazing just how funny these 7 minute masterpieces were (and still are). Let's hope Warner does well enough to come out with more collections.
Rating: Summary: some missing but still great Review: Yes whats opera doc is missing but there are other wonderful clips on this DVD set. ALSO for those who are interested the Bug Bunny Road Runner movie Released on VHS in 1997 Has "Whats opera Doc" along with a few others that are missing here. Like the introduction of WILE E. Coytoe "Super Genius" and more. (sorry not "One Froggy Night" I am still looking for that one.) Point being in early reviews it was claimed that "Opera" had been banned an that is simply not true. And why would it be???? There is nothing offensive to anyone race or religion in it? Please get more information before posting such a claim. Hopefully this review helps the Looney lover to gather all the greats.
Rating: Summary: My Mama done told me....to bring this DVD home !! Review: What a great, great collection. Bringing back the memories. You remember the lines.....you probaly even remember the characters, try these: ....My mama done told me to bring something for dinner... ...My Little killer, go out and get a rabbit, or something...Ah, nope, nope nope, nope, Ah, ah-ah, nope, nope, nope,nope..... ...(How many Lumps?). Ohh, threee-orr-fourrr .... ...Monsters are such INteresting people..... ..I say, I SAY, boy, Listen up when I'm talkin to ya.... The great classics of all time, backed up with a full symphony orchestra !! Greats such as Mel Blanc(Voice), Carl Stalling (Music), Chuck Jones, Friz Freeling (directors), etc. You just don't get that with todays cartoons. Also, you can't beat the animation. Sure, Pixar in the movies is great. But have you watched saturday TV cartoons lately? 'Ol bugs and company blows 'em away. Treat your kids to the best, you'll enjoy it too.
Rating: Summary: AWSOME COLLECTION!!! Review: I wasn't going to write a review of this until I saw someone had given it only 1 star because they claimed WB had edited the shorts. No, they did NOT edit this. I own it and have watched them all. There were several times when I saw parts that I had never seen before on television because it had obviously been edited before. An example of this was the scene where Sam get's hung while chasing Bugs. I couldn't believe what I saw because it had always skipped past that before. He actually falls with a noose around his neck and gets hung. I see why they edited it originally but am very glad they restored it fully for us adults. Anyway, this isn't edited so I'm not sure where that person got their information but don't let that one influence you! I own over 200 DVD's and this is one of my most prized collections and I eagerly await more releases! Thanks WB!
Rating: Summary: 56 ANIMATED WB MASTERPIECES-UNCUT & UNCENSORED! Review: This collection has (rightly) made dozens of end-of-year lists touting the Best DVD releases of 2003. It is nothing short of superb, and a fitting testament to the legendary genius animation craftspeople who created these great cartoons years ago. DO NOT BE MISLED BY THE STUPID, ILL-INFORMED "REVIEW" BELOW WHICH INSINUATES THAT THE CARTOONS ON THIS COLLECTION HAVE BEEN EDITED. They have NOT been edited. They are beautifully restored, and presented in their complete, original form, just as first seen in theaters during the '40s and '50s. Don't miss out on this extraoardinary DVD release. It's quite magnificent!
Rating: Summary: Warner Brothers Edits Looney Tunes - The Golden Collection Review: We've all seen the Warner Brothers Cartoon hundreds of times - know every joke and laugh at them over and over again. So it is rather offensive to find out that Warner Brothers, in their infinite wisdom, decided to edit out material they deemed offensive making the cartoons politically correct. Art, should be shown or viewed in its original form. To alter the final version is a travesty to the artists who participated in the making of the film. And if the powers that be have decided to be politically correct, why not edit out all of the violence? Warner Brothers should be ashamed. If you purchase the DVD please remember you won't be seeing the cartoons as they were released. If we regard the Warner Brothers Cartoons as art, it's a shame that this art has been altered to please (fill in the blank).
Rating: Summary: A must for Looney Tunes fans Review: Thank You Warner Brothers for this collection. If your a Looney Tunes fan this is a must have for you. It has some of the best episodes on here. I will admit a few of the episodes aren't anything to brag about, but it leaves room for more volumes to be released. The overall quality is great. I can't wait until one day I can own ever episode released.
Rating: Summary: Great but could be greater Review: Obviously a great release, beautiful color, nice sound. The aspect ratio cuts off some of the frame, there should have been a letterbox option. The limited space on the four dvds obviously left out some of everybodys favorites. I hope they release the entire oevre, from Bugs to Foghorn Leghorn over the years to come. Please letterbox!
