Summary: over-rated and really just for the D&D fans.
Review: Truly over rated. Maybe it's because I'm not such a big fantasy person myself, but in my opinion, you have to like D&D (or something like that) to like this anime. I see no other good qualities. If you are not fond or simply never really got attached to rpg's such as D&D, skip this anime.

I had heard alot of this anime before I watched it and heard from a friend that it was very good. I read the reviews on amazon.com and thought that one bad review out of 4 or 5 wasn't bad. So I rented the first dvd first. It was horrible! I was so bored I took about 3 breaks in the middle of the first episode! Its truly just for the D&D fans. So in my opinion...I didn't like it.

Summary: Average and over hyped
Review: I can not belive the rubish people are writing about this anime. Middle of the road story and nothing special animation. would not be in my top ten

Summary: Excellent job at the Sword and Sorcery genre for the screen
Review: Lodoss War is D&D brought to the screen, even more so than the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. You find nearly all the old classes; fighter, thief, magic-user, cleric, elf, and dwarf. With interesting characters, a well thought out plot, and a villain worth cheering for, this is the fantasy genre at it's best.

As specific to the DVD, this version continues the ongoing, and very annoying, tradition of placing the episodes not in chronological order, but rather in production order. The result is that the first episode of the series actually takes place three or four episodes into the story. This has been a long time pet peave of mine with the various video releases of the series, and I wish someone would watch this before they released it and realize how stupid it is to start in the middle of the story (very briefly) jump to the beginning of the story, and then skip that piece in the middle without explaination.

This episode was produced first, to sell the show to producers because it was exciting and action packed. It was never intended to be aired in that order.

Summary: Unforgetable...
Review: Record of Lodoss war is the best anime I've ever seen! So good, that its hard to put into words. A must rent! Pick it up at any Blockbuster in the animation section!

Summary: I love Lodoss!
Review: let's just say that I am a huge fantasy-anime fan...this is one of the better of them all...just get it, you'll see!

(be wary, now, that the first 2 episodes seem to be darker & more grainy then the other episodes in this volume, not too big a flaw, but ya know...also, the subtitles during the bards song about mid-way through the series (don't remember the actual episode) are kinda tough to read cause they are imprinted in the episode, then if you have subtitles turned on then the subs double up & interfere with each other...nothing too series)

Summary: If you are a RPG game fan, Lodoss War is a must buy.
Review: Lodoss War has a great story and nice character design. But the animation is a little out of date since it is made a while ago. If you are a RPG game fan, Lodoss War is a must buy.

Summary: I know 32 other people have reviewed it, but...
Review: OK. I'll get down to the point. I'm not a big anime fan. Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but that's it. Then I came across this DVD collection, and thought I'd give it a shot. After all, I was saving myself 50% of what VHS buyers were paying for. Let me tell you, I became engrossed. A fantasy tale told in thirteen chapters, all in two DVDs! The art is excellent, the story is great, and even the voice acting is decent. The chapter search is a great benefit, which allows you to go to your favorite scenes again. And did I mention the price? The only minus I can think of is that it does appear to be just a transfer from VHS, so if you own the original set, don't bother with the DVD. Also, I never liked the ending. It was good, but for five hours I wanted something a little more. In the end, this has become my favorite anime, period.

Summary: Great for Fans of Fantasy Anime
Review: This anime is incredible in almost all ways. Its one of my all time favorites and its a must buy for any fans of the fantasy genre.

Summary: Nothing but the best.
Review: I had reservations when I was first recommended this series. Before this, I had not seen a single good anime that was released though US Manga.

This utterly changed my mind. I was very engrossed in the plot early on, and knew that this was the best Anime ever done. Lodoss is unmatched in plot and storyline.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the most innovative anime I have seen.
Review: The movie starts off by showing a scene later in the movie which was a bit confusing, but other than that in was a very interesting plot. At times I did get confused for a while. The animation in very well done. This movie is 25% dungeons and dragons RPG, 25% anime, 25% chick flick and 25% fighting enjoyment. If you have time (it's 290 minutes) and you are thinking of getting it but you are not exactly sure if you should get it, just get it, it's worth it.
