Summary: Good Humor, Good Action, Good Girls, Good Time!
Review: I must say, the first time my friend introduced me to this series I was skeptical. I mean a guy living in a house full of girls didn't sound like it would make much of a series. After all, he forced me to watch it on VHS. After the first two tapes I found myself loving it and wanting more. When I got home the next day I was quick to order it. I was glad I did too. It is well worth your money, with a combonation of great animation, funny, witty, great character development and a totally wacked storyline make this one of the most enjoyable animes yet.

Summary: Childish but not really for children
Review: I was a bit disappointed with this series. I'm a huge fan of Japanese animation but I found the story telling, with all the goofy love triangles, trite. The idea that all the women in the house (even the mother of one of his admirers.) are in love with this young man is male ego in its purest form. The whole thing is too silly for adults to enjoy and there are too many sexual references for small children. The animation was good but certainly not ground breaking. Given the exorbitant price I would recommend missing this one.

Summary: Editorial correction
Review: First off let me say that this is an awesome DVD set. Great animation and cool characters.

I would like to make a correction to the Editorial Review. The OAV was FIRST. I was made before the TV series was produced, and is considered by many Tenchi fans (myself included) to be the "original" story line. There were 2 TV series created after this that are completly different storylines.

One other thing...the translation of the title is wrong. When Pioneer first picked up Tenchi Muyo! and marketed it they mistranslated on purpose to make it sound like "No Need for Tenchi" (i.e. the main character). Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense since almost everybody seems to need him. The actual translation of the words are---"Tenchi"="Heaven" and "Muyo"="useless" so--"No need for Heaven". Which makes a little more sense. Who needs heaven when you have all of the these beautiful women in love with you.

Summary: A brilliant masterpeice---a must for any anime fan!
Review: Those of you who have not yet seen the Tenchi Muyo OVA series have no idea as to what you're missing out on. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most satisfying anime series out there. If you don't believe me, check out the first six episodes within the series, which by themselves tell a complete story, and I guarantee that you won't walk away from it disappointed. Then see the remaining seven episodes and you'll be astonished. Tenchi Muyo is outstanding on every level---it has fluid, lifelike animation, a colorful cast of characters each with their own distinct personality, beautiful artwork and richly detailed settings, an excellent soundtrack, and most importantly, an awesome storyline. Tenchi Muyo's storyline has something for everybody, everything from intense battle sequences and humorous situations to teenage romance and suspenseful drama. Its storyline stirs up a wide range of emotions within its viewers, so that even viewers with the shortest attention spans will be kept on the edge of their seats. You'll walk away from the experience with a cleansed, satisfied feeling, and you'll return later to relive the fun and excitement again and again. Tenchi Muyo is the most complete entertainment I've had in a long time, and that's because it contains something that so many other series lack. Tenchi Muyo has heart, and that's something more timeless and enchanting than anything the whole Palace of Jurai could have to offer.

Summary: Don't think, don't hesitate, please get it now...
Review: A few years back in high school, my life was plagued with personal problems. Juggling with homework and family problems. One day I went out with enough money and and bought a tape. It was Tenchi Muyo, the first oav episode. After watching it, my life has suddenly gotten better. Obviously, Tenchi Muyo was the remedy. Now a few years later, Pioneer has made a set of the 13 Tenchi Muyo episodes. I instantly bought it, without thinking at all, plunging in all my hard earned cash. Seriously, you can't miss this...you just can't. This is one of the best anime I have ever seen. This set is worth every penny of your savings. I put this dvd set on my shelf along with other animes, with pride...

Summary: perhaps one of the best OVA series ever
Review: Tenchi is a sweet, (mostly) innocent boy who (for some reason) attracts impulsive affections of powerful, attractive female space aliens.

Several distinct series and movies were made with this theme, but the original OVA series on this DVD is likely the best. If you have seen some Tenchi and liked it, you will love the OVA series.

While the quality of the animation and audio is superb, the nice selection of characters and their continual development is what distinguishes this series from others. With 13 episodes, and a bonus Tenchi Encyclopedia disk, this box set provides excellent value.

Special Note: This is the unedited version of what was aired Summer 2000 on the Cartoon Channel. The (silly) naughtiness which was edited out provides extra insight into Tenchi's strength of character.

This is a must for Tenchi fans, and for those who collect "best of class" anime.

Summary: Great first half, lack luster second half.
Review: Tenchi Muyo, to some people, is a God-send in anime. Where as to me, I walk away from it with a feeling of, eh...

But with all the things going for it(great character designs, memorble fight scene, and sheer inovation in craft/mecha,high quality animation), something just leaves me feeling a little unsettled. THE SECOND HALF OF THE SERIES!

The first half is great. Full of comedy, action, romance, a hint of sci-fi, and depth. The Kagato battle is truly a memorable scene for all of anime. But once the threat of Kagato is gone, the enjoyment also leaves the room shortly after...

Because as its seems, the rest of the story seems so paper thin(ie "lets all try to win the love of Tenchi!"), with small little side plots that reall add nothing to the characters. And those great characters who were so seemed so three dimensional. GONE! Traded for some 1-D character knock offs who just want to get into Tenchi's pants. And that just saddens me. But, when I think about it, there wasnt much where the story line could go after Kagato died.

So in the end, I just feel like I got the brush off from watching this series. Is it worth watching? Yes.(specially cause good ol' Amagasaki makes a camo in it). But just cause the candy starts off sweet, doesnt mean it cant go south of the boarder.

Summary: Has to be the second #1 anime on my list.
Review: I once downloaded a Tenchi OVA and I loved it. The humor is great the characters are well thought out, and my personal opinion (as it is with almost all anime) Tenchi is much much much better subtitled! Got that? Good. Buy this.
