Summary: A Great Summer Film
Review: The Perfect Storm is an excellant motion picture. Coming from award winning director Wolfgang Petersen, who knows a thing or two about both the sea (Das Boot) and action (Airforce One)he delivers an excellant film. The story revolves around swoardfish captain Billy Tye (George Clooney) and the rest of his crew. (notabley John C. Reily and Mark Wahlberg) The film is VERY loosely based on the novel by Sebastian Junger. The movie delves into the sacrifices fisherman have to make to bring home the big catch, and the things they have to leave behind to get it. George Clooney and the rest of the cast are played to perfection. I couldn't think of a greater ensamble to play the roles. The speacial effects are also out of this world, made by Industrial Light and Magic. (ie Star Wars and The Mummy) Though there is a lack of major charcter development, due to the fact that the storm is the big draw to this film, audiences would leave dissapointed if they had spent 2 hours developing these charcters, and 15 minutes of the storm. Thats my only complaint with the film. Wolfgang follows the facts of what happened to these men in 1991, and is the perfect director for the film. The musical score, though sappy, is also good, done by Titanic famous James Horner. For a fun ride and good story, check out this movie.

Summary: Kind of like Titanic but even better!
Review: I thought this movie was really good but it was more like Titanic in a way. The music is composed by James Horner, it's a true story, and it talks about surviving in the ocean. Well, if you hadn't seen this movie yet go see it before it hits on video. I hope it will come out on DVD because I am going to add it to my DVD collection. It better not be in widescreen because I hate that. It will also be neat if the DVD will include extra features like behind the scenes, theatrical trailer, and maybe some deleted scenes. I hadn't read the book to this movie but I heard it was good. Go see this movie it is ten times better than Titanic. This movie should win an oscar for best picture and best actor. I would recommened this movie to anyone!

Summary: Water, Water Everywhere
Review: I saw this movie with my parents on 3 July, and I thought it was a very good movie. I am sure that most females went or will be going to see this just because either George or Mark (or even both of them) is/are in the movie. But it is an extremely well done & well acted movie despite that. They are both very good in it. I was enthralled by the effects of the ocean that the 3 storms created. It was absolutely amazing to see 50 FOOT WAVES surrounding this "little" (but the Andrea Gail was definately NOT LITTLE)boat! I had gotten my father this book for Christmas, and he thoroughly enjoyed the book, so when he heard that they had made a movie of it, he wanted to go see it. He really enjoyed it, and as he was in the Navy in the mid-late 50s, in the Submarines, he knew first-hand how the ocean is/was on the North Atlantic. The movie was extremely good, the acting was good, the effects were superb. All in all, to tell you the truth, I thought TITANIC was scarier. Even though what TITANIC went through was tragic, I had more emotion at the end of PERFECT STORM than I had at TITANIC: I actually had tears running down my face, whereas I did not at TITANIC.

Summary: Horrible Script, Good Special Effects
Review: This movie boasts the most laughable dialogue in recent memory. Personal favorites: "It will be a disaster of epic proportions!", "Billy, you won't like me saying this, but be careful!", "You have the greatest job in the world- you're a swordfish captain!" etc, etc, etc. "Runaway Bride" was less cheesy than this, if you can believe that. On a positive note, it did have good special effects, but the movie languished in its own excess. Suprisingly, there was little suspense when the storm finally hits. Wait for the rental.

Summary: The Perfect Storm: Solid and Exciting drama
Review: If you've seen Wolfgan Petersen's Das Boot, you might already now that The Perfect Storm will take you out to the sea, and tragically leave you there.

In a Das Boot fashion, Petersen spends a good portion of the movie preparing you for The Perfect Storm. He briefly introduces all of the male characters as honourable and brave fishermen with their potential character flows (Clooney and Wahlberg in their typical good-boy roles), and pairs up these characters with their "better halves" (even the smelliest one among them "gets the girl"). But before you get too cozy with these characters, Petersen takes them out to the sea, and starts throwing at them everyhting at his disposal. Sharks, huge sword fish, personal conflicts, happiness, despair, and eventually the Perfect Storm (i.e., death) are some of the plot elemts that Petersen uses in a diety-style fashion. Does he let his characters survive? Go and see for yourself, but if you are faint-of-heart think twice about sailing any time soon after seeing this movie.

The Perfect Storm probably deserves three out five stars knowing that Petersen to a great extent replicated the proven formula of Das Boot; however, hugely-impactful ending and good acting by his all-star cast award him an extra star.

Good job Mr. Petersen, but be more creative next time!

Summary: Good, but not perfect.
Review: I love movies as alot of other people do. So naturally I was excited to go to the theaters. (We don't have one in our town and having no car is hard.) So it was either this, Patriot or R&B. So I saw this. After the first hour, I was enjoying it. The last hour was non stop action. I don't like action movies with no break, that would be like horror movies with no breaks or comedy. But I still loved the movie and the comp- generated waves. Now I was about ready to call this a five star movie until the last ten minutes. Its very hard to keep the ending a secret since most people have probably been told what happens or know that it ends sad. But even with the depressing ending, it shows the bravery of there women back on land and their bravery of the men on the ship. It makes the disaster movie leave you with a semi-warm feeling. A 4 ain't bad.

Review: This film is very slow at the start but when the storm hits the movie gets better, the acting by clooney and wahlberg is very good. You will be surprised by the ending of the film i know i was.

Special effects on the storm are excellent. You will have to see it for yourself and decide.

Summary: Near Perfect
Review: Perfect is loosely used term, so I'd have to say this movie is near perfect. There was hardly a thing I couldn't like about it. First off, the special effects during the storm were truly spectacular. You HAVE NOT seen this before. The "scenes of peril" during the storm are great suspense. Some complain the characters are paper-thin, but I have to disagree. They spend quite a bit of time characterizing them before the storm starts. John C. Reilly (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia) turns in another spectacular role, and Mark Wahlberg steals the lead role from George Clooney. I cared about what happened to these characters. And lastly, don't go in knowing what will happen. I didn't, and I tried very hard to make sure I didn't, avoiding any and all information regarding the outcome. You'll enjoy it more. Something to think about: would you rather listen to James Horner's annoying score or the sounds of the storm?

Summary: Perfect Review
Review: Having just seen the movie I can say that although it wasn't a "perfect" movie ...it was truly enjoyable. George Clooney gave a great performance and I found him very believable. I never knew anything about the Andrea Gail or her crew and I found it fasinating to expore the life of fishermen. The sappy parts in the movie could have just as well been left out but the storm special effects really put you right in the middle of it. Great direction by Peterson.

Summary: Oh please
Review: A bunch of stupid fishermen go out into a storm knowing full well there is going to be a storm and we are supposed to care. Let the fish eat them; it would be ironic justice.
