Review: Everytime I see this film, I notice something new. The film has a lot of different elements coming together including a solid (though somewhat predictable) story, great acting, and visual effects that will satisfy even the most experienced movie fan. There is something for everyone. A must see, Again and Again!

Review: I have seen so many movies in my life but this remains my favorite. The acting was splendid, especially Ed Harris as "Bud" Virgil Brigman. This character made him my all time favorite actor. If you haven't seen it SEE IT! If you haven't seen it in a while BUY IT!

Summary: Director's Cut Actually Makes Sense!!!
Review: The original release of this film is great, but come on, what was the purpose of the aliens? Well, James Cameron finally decided to tell us. Going back and restoring the missing footage, he gives an unbelievable and extrodinary 3 hour adventure. For the first time, this movie makes sense.

Review: I only saw the directors cut once, so i have to review the shorter version. I personally fell in deep love with it. It was SO, SO, SO beautiful. The best part had to be the ending, with that race of underwater angels that took ed harris went to visit. I would have loved to purchase the directors cut but it wasn't available. I loved the scene with the huge tidel wave on the news but of course that was cut out, why? How should i know, it's pretty stupid. If you find the directors cut, then pick that one up, it's much better. I would give this more than five stars but you cant, sorry. BOTTOM LINE: BUY THIS NOW, YOU'LL WANT TO WATCH IT MORE THAN ONCE, BELIEVE ME, IT'S THAT COOL.

Summary: The Abyss: Pure movie magic
Review: We all know who James Cameron is. He gave us outstanding films such as Aliens, The Terminator, Titanic, Terminator 2, and of course The Abyss. This film is a perfect example of what movie magic is, once it has come alive on the big screen. Sadly, The Abyss wasnt a success with critics, but then again most films are not. This was probably due to the fact that the theatrical version had been so severely shortened in length, leaving out so many important scenes that could have answered the larger part of those questions that arose, because of a somewhat confusing plot. A crew of an underwater drilling platform is thrust into a dark and endless abyss in an attempt to salvage a submarine. What they find is a race of aliens so powerfull it could destroy mankind itself. See it even if you have to go far to purchase it. I recommend the Special Edition, but it will do in short version as well. Academy award winner for special effects.

Summary: A magnificent underwater epic from director James Cameron.
Review: Despite its disappointing box office release in 1989, The Abyss is one of the most spectacular films ever released. The performances were moving, the special effects were dazzling, and the story was genuine and unique. Based on a short story Jim Cameron wrote when he was a junior in high school, (yeah, folks, that would make him about 17) the script examines human nature and challenges the audience to, 'see with better eyes.' Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn delivered authentic, extraordinary emotion in captivating performances worthy of the highest recognition. Above all, the effects and underwater cinematography were brilliant. It's simply one of the best.

Summary: I like this movie more every time I watch it
Review: I thought this was about the dumbest movie I had ever seen the first time I watched it, but repeated viewings make it rise ever higher in my esteem. The only thing that still bugs me is how fakey the alien vessel appears when it rises (papier mache? oh please!). We have the laserdisc version - I just love to watch "the making of".

Summary: One of the best underwater pictures ever made!
Review: This is an excellent effort by Cameron. It is a thinking person's film that includes superior characterizations, a thoughtful script, and outstanding special effects (the wreck of the sub at the beginning is a knockout and the Sea Tentacle forshadows the "bad terminator" in T2)!. The plot pacing is a little slow and the aliens as shown are much too benign to be truly frightening. Mastrantonio is just a little too strident, Ed Harris is his usual virile self and Biehn is excellent as the antagonist. Go only with the laser edition that includes the expanded footage, otherwise the entire movie doesn't make sense at the end!!! The extras on the laser also explain how Cameron made it all come together. This is a movie for the entire family to enjoy together and discuss afterwards. Highly recommended.

Review: The director's cut edition is what James Cameron wanted for the original release. The additional footage is wonderful and the ending is completely different than the original theatrical release. It is a signifantly better movie that the original!
